  1. The Discus decided to come out to play, so here's a few better pics.
  2. Well i had 10 new Discus arrive from the breeders to day, they are pretty shy as expected and as you can see from the poor pics, most of them are hiding out under the filter at the moment. Here's a quick shot of the tank, (decor not completed yet) And here's a few shots of the new guys, still a lot of colouring up to do but looking good.
  3. I went to the LFS today and this little fella was still there, he was part of a breeding pair but unfortunately his partner came to a bad end , Anyway I couldn't leave him behind so I picked him up for £5 (The LFS owed me, ) and here he is. :thumb:
  4. I removed the Beast , the fish that caused the damage as he became even more aggressive and started attacking my other fish, he is now awaiting a new home at the lfs. The injured fish.. old blue, is doing great in his hospital tank and i'm hoping for a speedy recovery, he even ate a little this evening so things are looking good.
  5. Thanks for the kind comments guys. The fish in pic 7 is a female Auratus, I wish i had a Leprechaun taking pics lol be so much easier, It takes a lot of patience and a lot of luck taking half decent pics of fast moving fish like Malawis, a decent camera is a big help too. I got a fugi finepix S7000 for £150 of a mate that was upgrading his cam, a real bargain i reckon.
  6. I keep Haps, Peacocks and Mbuna, here are a few pics of some of them.
  7. Great pic sequence, congrats on the fry.
  8. I went out for a couple of hours today and came home to carnage, my ice blue red top had been battered by another fish , who is now undisputed king of the tank. The poor old ice blue is now in a hospital tank but i don't think he's gonna make it. Here's the ice blue before the assualt A very handsome fish.. Here he is after the fight, just hanging out at the top of the tank and not looking so good. And here's the fish that caused the carnage, (the git) new king of the tank.
  9. Just a few new pics. A few Malawis.

Odds are you are gonna get 4-5 breeding pairs out of that lot so when they pair up and breed they are gonna terrorise the single convicts, then the pairs will squabble as well, best to keep just maybe 2 pair if your tank is big enough and return the rest to the LFS.
  11. Paul i wouldn't add Cons with Malawis as they have completely different water requirements, and like you said not a community tank, But you can keep them with other medium aggressive SA cichlids if you have a big enough tank? just watch out for some fireworks when the Cons get into breeding mode as they will take on all comers in defense of their young. Here's a pic of my favourite female.
  12. That dosn't surprise me Tanksman, lol cons have to be among the most protective parents around, they will take on absolutely anything in defense of their young.
  13. I've been keeping and breeding convicts a long time but i don't think i've ever had a more colourful female than this one.
  14. Minimum recommended tank size for a pair of full grown severums is 45 gallons. you could add a few dither fish as well if you are trying to get a pair to bond, this seems to work for some reason.
  15. So fronts are not a cheap commodity in NZ then, $250 - $300 is crazy money,
  16. $50 sounds a lot, How much is that in sterling? (British pounds)
  17. Thanks for the id's KK your male is a stunner,
  18. Hi guys i have the fronts in a 75g at the moment, they will be moving to a bigger tank of course when they get bigger, The subtrrate is a mixture of coral sand and coral gravel and the ph stays at 7.9-8.0, they seem to be thriving at this. Does anyone know why fronts are so slow growing cmpared to other cichlids and why one fishs usually a dominant male will grow 3 times faster than all the other fish? Btw.. Out of curiousity how muh do fronts retail at in NZ? You an pay £10-£15 for them here in Ireland. sorry for all the questions,
