  1. The frogs seem to have gone through the Winter quite well. They have become more active since the weather has been warming up with increasing sun hours and don't have a problem with feeding either.
  2. Has anyone tried anything similar to this? :slfg: http://www.r2fishschool.com/
  3. On a Friday in Wellington due to the terrible weather I have lost many large branches of Leucadendron safari sunset, some of which are over 5 years old with quite a thick diameter on the base. Any tips for propagating these from cuttings?? Could I also use some of them in a fish tank?
  4. What do you do when you have a black out, in terms of fish keeping? Due to the horrible weather in Wellington I have been out of power for 1 night and 1 day (until now). My tropical fish tank dropped to a freezing temperature of 8-9 degrees Celsius which ended up in some losses. :dead%fish
  5. I have 2 bell frogs that have been raied from tadpoles. I placed them both in an outdoor tank and they have been there for about 2 weeks from now. I found them today under a rock and the other in water, thinking that they were dead I picked them up, only to discover that they were still alive. They very rarely move, have become darker in colour, look a bit bloated, don't eat a lot and their skin is not as moist as it used to be. Are they hibernating? What kind of conditions should I provide for them?
  6. Thanks for the help guys. Will try using the hot glue gun and I just found out that super glue is safe to use in the aquarium!
  7. Could glue from a hot glue gun be used?
  8. Are all silicones safe and don't cause any harm to fish? I have Parfix, bathroom and kitchen sanitary grade silicone sealant. It has acetic cure. Not intending to use it on glass but for joining some decorations together.
  9. How do I get my microworms to climb up the sides? On some mornings they climb up half way then later in the day they climb down. This makes it difficult to feed my baby axolotls and fry.
  10. Does anyone know any glass manufacturers that can make custom built tanks in the Wellington area? :dunno:
  11. I bought some azolla and duckweed that I have been waiting to get my hands on for some time. I intend to use them in my tropical and goldfish tanks as shelter for fry etc.. I placed them into buckets and noticed slug and worm looking things clinging on to the side of the bag that they came in. Would anything from a pond be harmful to fish? Will try and get some photos on tonight or tomorrow.
  12. The moss has been growing quite well and is starting to spread out. Is Christmas moss naturally found on land?
  13. Found out how on here Here is my version with guppies and moss from my backyard
  14. I have beed looking around in pet shops for java moss and unfortunately they don't have any. I have noticed this moss growing everywhere in my backyard a while ago but have remained a bit skeptical that it could go in the tank. I picked a few bunches and have left them in some water overnight. Can these go inside an aquarium and be safe? I can guarantee that no fertilizers/weed killers etc have been near it.
  15. How long would it be to starve the swarmers in the main tank at a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius? I only have one heater and have been treating the main tank with extra salt and at a tmperature of 32 degrees celsius for 3 days. The heater will be used in the quarantine tank.
  16. They are all currently in a quarantine tank. The snails and FW mussel are in a different one. The two are getting sicker every day, tails getting more red, tail rotting more and more ich. I really hate ich :an!gry I am doing daily water changes of 25% mainly concentrating at the bottom of the tank and replenishing the salt level. The main tank is uninhabited except for a few aquatic plants and the I am raising the temperature to 32 degrees celsius. So does my fish have fin rot, bacterial infection and ich at the same time?!? I really don't want my goldfish to :dead%fish especially the two white ones, I have had them for 3 years with no problems at all..... until now. :tears: :tears:
  17. If you want to have a better look you can see it on http://postimage.org/gallery/24ay031s/
  18. My two goldfish are heavily infected with ich :tears: , it started of as red streaks on the tail, scratching the side of the body, twitching fins white spots on fins (everywhere, looks like salt) and on the body and rapid glitchy movement. In m tank I have driftwood, plants, silica sand for substrate, FW mussel, snails, 2 fantails, 2 orandas and 1 minnow. One of the fantails tail looks like it is starting to rot. The end is shrinking and leaving behind a skeleton like structure behind. They are all eating well. The fantails tails are very red and the two orandas tails are starting to turn red and the minnow is just fine. I bought tonic salt from animates. 1) How do I go about treating the whole tank? 2) Can I remove all the fish into one quarantine tank with the treatment? Will the parasite starve to death in the tank with no fish along with treatment in the main tank? 3) Can I use a filter from the old tank in the quarantine tank? 4) How do I treat the plants and wood? 5) Can the mussel and snails carry the disease? 6) Can the disease exist in my main filter? Any help will be greatly appreciated Pictures will come soon....
  19. My oranda that I recently bought came with a wen that was partially white in come places. Is this normal?? Also it has developed some white pimples/blisters (very small) in some places. I have seen 3 so far, the first one was on the very top of the wen, it looked like that it was embedded within the wen and in a few hours it would rise, then become flattened. A cloudy liquid then followed after. The same thing happen with the other two, except they were above the eye and behind it two but much smaller. How do I treat? Apart from that he is fine. Here are the images.... and the other photo with the arrow is a spot on the other side of the head. http://postimage.org/gallery/9xi6mnvk/
  20. How about buying snail rid from the petshop? I keep ramshorn snails and feed them with cucumber. Ways you can reduce the population by a lot, can be luring them into a trap with cucumber or just placing cucumber in the tank, then pick it up the next morning. Overnight the snails swarm all over the cucumber and devour it! They absolutely love it!
  21. Heres the images, http://postimage.org/gallery/3bl2cacg/ Also one of my fish that I bought has a weird lump on the side, what could it be? The worm things have grown and are also on the glass of the tank, they are bigger about 3mm moving around. I can clearly see the flukes on the fish with the naked eye, but have to go really close. Also does the blackmoor have fin rot? (Shown on one of the pictures. The blackmoor along with another fish have been rubbing their sides on the glass and on the sand. What treatment should I use??
  22. I recently bought a new blackmoor fish along with 2 others and a mussel. The blackmoor fish has these white worms attached all over the body and tail. They range from 0.5-1mm in length , they are very tiny and have about the width of single strand of hair. They are all over the body including the tail and especially around the eyes. One of my other fish that I bought along with the blackmoor has it too, but not a lot of them, just on around the eyes. They are very noticeable on the blackmoor, so I can't be 100% sure that my two other white goldfish (my original ones before I got the new fish)doesn't have them . The blackmoor is feeding well and behaving normally. The worm like things also seem to be moving! I will try posting pictures on the weekend, but I doubt my camera will be able to take a picture of something so tiny. Could it be possible that the mussel could have brought it in?
  23. Forgot to mention, it stays there temporarily (overnight) in the small tank, then gets put back to the main tank. The water that I use to feed it is cleaned and then left to grow algae again.
