    Seio bashers

so they do or they dont stock them? was a pretty simple question? i thought the least they would do is have brochures in their "pumps" section advertising that they CAN sell streams.
  2. worst thing i did was spend $900 on a chiller about 18 months ago but havent used it since. tank temperature did get up a little last summer (high 29's i think it hit) - just when i was going to get around to plumbing it up, summer ended thats on top of my "must do soon" list for the tank! i will probably gravity feed mine easiest way just means more plumbing its 8:30pm and tank is at 27.0 - it usually sits at 25

hehee, I still have those button polyps of yours sitting in my refugium. grab those when you pick up the xenia and hydno!

    Fragging stuff

dont even need netting or rubber bands, lean a rock against it. speaking of which, i have a xenia for sale if anyone wants one,... $15. comes with free bright green hydnophora frag on the same rock
  5. bye bye to the old chunky 250's and hello to 3 x 150's. the ballasts for 2 of the 3 are mounted to the wall as opposed to sitting ontop of the lighting hood. This makes the hinged lighting hood extremely light and, due to the smaller footprint access to the tank incredibly easier than before. I still have the 4 x T5's to hook up, probably this weekend assuming. The pic is a little deceiving, but the lights are about 4 inches from the water surface (as opposed to about 10-12 inches with the 250's) The "spread" of lighting is certainly not as good as before (due to 200 watts less light and the 250's being higher) but those corals nearer the surface are seeing much more directed and intense lighting. As soon as the T5's go in I believe this should give the whole tank a good spread of light. Will put up photo's once this is done (will take before/after shots of tank with/without T5's to show difference too)

trust me to open my big mouth, well it can't be my place coz half of it looks like this  in other words, half complete!!!

probably a better idea anyway, the weather up here is much better. wheres hamilton anyway? somewhere by stewart island isnt it? oh no wait, hamiltons that town us jafas stop for food and pass through when we go on holidays
  8. nope! make your own. people breaking down tanks and sell up, people buy dead base rock and have the live rock "seed" it etc

    Tiny Bubbles

not the best shot - the water level usually sits much higher than what you see in the picture so its got less distance to drop thus less bubbles. water levels usually sits about 1/2 way up the height of the eggcrate.
  10. yeah, why not. be interesting to see what others think! at least the ratings are genuine, some crap tanks there too. top 10: http://www.ratemyfishtank.com/topten.php/s_1 i think some NZL tanks would do better than some of these (pies, reefs, steves etc)
  11. some nice tanks here... http://www.ratemyfishtank.com/reef_tanks.php

do you have a sump? if so do you have baffles in it? if not, you will probably need some. over, under, over with 1.5" spacing (or thereabouts) like this: the egg-crate thing is just an add-on i made to hold carbon in a stocking its the water splashing around in the sump that usually causes bubbles in the display tank.
  13. they recommend the rio hf20 or an iwaki 40rxt. both are similar flow rates (1200gph) re: the ap902 price, yes very tempting! lighting upgrade first.
  14. the rio 20hf is about 1200gph or over 5,000lph. thats quite a bit, be interesting to see how it runs. when you get it let us know how it goes. i still have my heart set on a deltec ap902 but the cost is the limiting factor in saying though, i found a supplier overseas who will land one for around $1,450. over $2k local (go figure) take reefs comments as constructive criticism
  15. what model ocean werx skimmer are you getting brian? any type of downdraft, venturi or beckett skimmer require BIG pumps to run them. i am considering the BS2-608 (I think thats the model) but they recommend running 2 x Iwaki 55's or equivalent! adds quite a bit of cost to the skimmer.
  16. durso are silent, but not completely silent. there maybe better options around.
  17. thats not how it should be designed. you have your overflow comb and a "lid" on top to stop fish getting in their in the first place so you'd never have that worry. i guess that then throws my redundant bulkhead idea out the window - i will never get anything large enough into the overflow because its limited by the overflow comb. snails and algae can grow in the overflow, but not up to 32mm in diameter!!! however, I still dont think it will hurt doing the extra bulkhead, its only about $40 in plumbing just incase
  18. arhhh i see what you're saying now suphew, either wasnt worded right in the first post or i cant read properly makes sense but only if water flow is changed - restricted or increased. the biggest issue with the design is the stainless "silencers". at least with a durso, chances are the crap that gets in the overflow will get sucked down it rather than block against it. i may still consider building in a redundant bulkhead near the top of my overflow that joins up to the existing plumbing. purely for the fact that water on carpet = more expensive than cost of bulkhead. durso = 40mm, to 32mm bulkhead, then back to 40mm pipe. there would have to be something pretty decent size (blue tang? ) to block a 32mm hole but thats where the smallest restriction is.
  19. give him some light/medium water movement/aeration
  20. i cant see any issues with it. redundant/backup pipe is good idea, might do the same - especially when new carpet goes in in couple of months time!!!
  21. you will have to change to plastic. either the stainless has to be fully submerged or fully merged. if it's half and half, oxygen plus saltwater will make it rust - yes, even stainless! nice looking design though.
