  1. i have the same make reactor as pies (although the model below), mine seems to be under a fair amount of pressure
  2. this thread reminds me to go get some decent food for my regal...
  3. a few clams for sale on trademe, tauranga though unfortunately. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Listin ... er=1185965
  4. calcium reactors work better under pressure i believe
  5. both. got power switch on wall in sump room, but this is also controlled by a switch next to the display tank upstairs (incase of emergencies, break glass )
  6. just went and checked the reactor,... bloody effluent was not dripping coz it was clogged. co2 was the same. unblocked it and reset bubble count to 1 a second. will have to test again tomorrow night
  7. yeah true, give that sissy pump to me then for $50
  8. More tests (again showing previous nights to show changes) Mon night: Mg 1050 (added 1 cup of Mg) kH 5.2 (added 3 heaped tblspoons baking soda diluted in 1 liter water) Ca 380 (increased bubble rate from 1 every 2-3 seconds to 1 per second) Tues night: Mg 1110 (added 1.5 cups of Mg) kH 6.2 (added another 3 heaped tblspoons baking soda diluted in 1 litre water) Ca 380 (nothing) Weds night: Mg 1170 (added 1.5 cups of Mg) kH 6.7 (nothing) Ca 370 (nothing) Thurs night: Mg 1200 (added 1.5 cups Mg) kH 6.1 (nothing) Ca 350 (nothing) So Mag is now good but both kH and Mg have dropped. I havent done anything with either of these in the last 2 nights! It is clear I need to sort out my calcium reactor, the CO2 bubble rate is too slow or the effluent drip rate is too fast. However why would kH drop again? Surely it can't be "used up" that quickly? I havent dosed anything for alk or calcium because Im planning on a water change tomorrow night. I'll test again after the water change, probably around 20% is all I can do.

is that like a cheap version of vegemite or marmite pies? but of course you meant dolomite
  10. mine's 32mm tank valve as well, similar size tank. 40mm standpipe, 40mm drainpipe to sump. get hansen bits from any store, micos, bunnings, chesters etc. actual hole size is about 38mm from memory, filled with silicon around the sides remember 32mm is inside diameter of the ball valve.

  13. Here's a bit of (albeit old) but useful information on the Regal angel... http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/aug2002/Fish.htm
  14. yeah regal angels are awesome, if yours is eating already then you're in luck he/she should do well. mine was very shy and got picked on by the blue tang for a while, everytime i went near the tank it would scoot away under the rocks. i actually got mine to eat out of my hands last week. mines about 3" long. stevea has one, his is quite big already i believe. also i think reef has also got one. they get up to 10 inches long. i gotta small hardcover book on angels with the regal on the last page saying they are better left in the ocean because there chances of survival in a reef tank are very slim. if you wanna borrow it let me know. had mine almost a year now and its doing fine. i lost half my mushrooms when i first got it. they are growing back now as its getting used to flake and other types of food. it LOVES nori, especially the red type. i can see a couple of massive sponges under my reef rack, maybe thats helping with its diet too heres mine in May of last year

    Paint

got mine from bunnings last time, even enamel will scratch off but since its the back of ya tank, you wont even be near it
  20. so what is defined as "the same time". i dissolve mg in some water and add it. wait a couple of minutes then do the same with baking soda? is that considered "the same time?" how long should i wait? with the amount of water movement throughout my system i'd say it would mix in pretty damn quick!!!

so wheres the best place to get mag chips for a calcium reactor?

    Paint

almost any paint you use will scratch off, unless you use that horrible glass stain stuff once painted just be careful with it. do a very light tack coat first. you'll need about 4 or 5 coats if you spray so rolling is probably not a bad idea
