  1. Iv got one, and i usually dont see him, unless i catch him during the nite, or early morning before the tank light comes on the other day tho he was out in all his glory:
  2. good on ya... *struggles with females with half orange half blue tails*
  3. i do this no offense to my fish, but therees no way their water is going in my mouth!!
  4. Dam maf must be having a real crack down. i had been talking to some reps and apparently they are having heaps of probs getting in dog treats and also rawhide and a few other things... this is getting stupid!
  5. hi there Little puffer is doing well. that night i seperated him from the main tank and checked on him a few hours later and his colour had returned and i offered him some frozen brine shrimp which he ate readily. He has always had snails to eat, and yes its quite a sight!! So maybe another fish was giving him a hard time or something, but hes healthy now
  6. he was getting regular frozen bloodworms, brineshrimp and a few other goodies, but his appetite seems to have gone. iv been looking at him over the evening and his colour has returned. he ate some bloodworms... panic over.. hopefully\ thanks for the help!
  7. Yikes just noticed my puffer is really skinny! he has lost his lil rounded belly, and isnt looking the best, hes looking really dark. . Iv puts some melafix in his tank (panic med'ing!) Iv just had a search on some american sites, and it seems this could be internal parasites. Anyone had any experience, or know a product that will help?
  8. haha i dont think i have the time to actually set up a tank... just wanting to admire someone elses hard work
  9. got any pics??? id love to see them
  10. same here! pain in the butt to do anything with unless u do a water change.... in saying that tho they look great with big tall plants (i have few diff vals, cambomba and some java moss on the bottom)
  11. they do seem to be more abundent around summer, but they are out there if you look hard enough!!

    snail eggs

haha yea i had my puffer in with some guppies for a wee while, and then i started to notice the odd tail with bits nipped out of it. Now puffer has his own 18'' tank beside my bed. hehe 8)

    snail eggs

i have a dwarf puffer that i feed the small snails that i pick out of other tanks to. Its quite neat watching it! But yea loaches like them too aparently. Iv only just got myself a horse faced loach, but im not sure as to how keen he would be on the snails.... hmmmm
  16. Agreed... if you were having problems with dirty gravel. Maybe more regular gravel cleans or maintenence is in need? In my work 99% of our tanks have UGF, and we have never needed to uplift them for maintence (only when a newbie comes along and lifts them up and gets gravel under them... grr!) They are cost effective and i dont see any major pros/cons as to using them rather than a cannister etc... Everything requires maintanence, time and effort, no matter what filtration system your using. But in saying this, most of my tanks at home have internal power filters. So what ever floats ya boat!

    Hi from Wanganui

^same as per above, but with a horse faced loach ^ read that they need finer substrate, but for the moment mine happily burrows amongst the fruit salad gravel  but i wouldnt mind getting another tank with sand and see how he goes in it.. hmm 8)
  18. yea my male fighter is fine... apart from one rouge gourami, those two just dont get along. Iv only had problems with a dwarf puffer nibbling fins of one of my old fighters.... but i never expected that relationship to work
  19. I made a trip up to auckland in the weekend to visit a few LFS, and i was like this at the selection off plants you have!! and quite a bit cheaper than down here!!! i almost brought a fishtank home with me, along with more fish!! I managed to keep myself under control and stock up on plants and things
  20. Yea they are pretty common round the LFS shops up here
  21. hmm yeah thought that mite have to be the case... oh well i was planning on getting another tank... hehehe MTS is beginning
  22. Ok heres the story, i have had pink kissing gouramis since i started up my tank. As a spur of the moment thing i decided to get a beautiful red siamese fighter. all has been well for a week or so, but just lately he is starting to flare up his gills and fight with one of the gouramis! The gourami just swims off to another corner of the tank and all is well until the bump into one another again. Its the same one everytime too. I didnt think there would be a problem, but if they are know to be aggresive to each other i will have to seperate them. (and yes i do realise why siamese fighters have their name!...) Anyone know if this is normal or not?

    Hi from Lyn

Cheers Caryl! Mite have to have a think about getting along to a meet
  24. If it is dropsy, its not contagious.. as far as i am aware. But there is no cure for it. We have had to isolate a few of our coldwater fishes that have it, but sadly they stay in the sick tank until they die. They dont seen to recover.
