  1. Thanks for the response guys, I think I'll go 3x2 as its going to be a cube 60x60x60 or 61x61x61 haven't decided yet, ether way it will have 200+ liters of water so will be quite heavy. Ismart120, did you get all of your wood cut to length at bunnings? That would of been a fair few pieces wouldn't it? Also what screws/nails are you using to hold it all together? PS, How much is 3x2 worth these days?
  2. See that is my only real problem... I only have a handsaw and I work in an office so my cutting skills are pretty minimal, I'm not a complete tool... But I know that the cuts will need to be dead straight. Do you think most places would mind cutting all the lengths for me? The stand is for a 60cm x 60cm tank so pretty small...
  3. welding... I wish I could weld :-? but unfortunately this I'll be building this stand out of wood. Does Bunnings offer a cutting service, to cut wood to length?
  4. Yeah looks pretty impressive... Is he a builder??
  5. I have decided to give stand building a go as I think it will be a lot cheaper to do it myself. Does anyone know if any good step by step instrutional websites I could get some ideas from? Or, better yet, any good previous forum posts on this topic that I might be able to get some tips/ideas off? Cheers
  6. Did you manage to have a chat to your dad? Cheers, Fraser
  7. I have never really understood the whole filter stops fish die thing... I use to unplug my filter each night when I went to bed as it was too noisy. I never once lost a fish or saw any garsping. I visited my parents the other day and the filter on one of the tanks had been turned off for over a week! fish still fine?
  8. Zuri, that would be wicked if you could arrange that for me. I'm still not 100% sure what the measurements will be for the tank (possibly 61cm cube instead of 60cm) just need to match up the lighting, so I'll get that confirmed, and the height for the stand. I don't mind painting the stand myself to save your dad the trouble. Have a chat to your dad and ask him how much he would like for the job. (it doesn't have to be anything too flash, as all need is a cube for a cube so to speak haha. Would be keen to have the back left open also so I can hide the filter under there.
  9. haha yeah I guess... But anything I normally build myself turns out pretty rangi How you would hold the 4x2 together?
  10. Does anyone know if a good Stand/Cabnet Maker in Auckland that could build a woodern stand for a 60x60x60 tank? Could possibly be made out of steel as well... The only requirement is that if it's made out of steel I would want the sides enclosed, not just framework. Cheers, F
  11. it would be call if you could buy some device that would talk to your iphone or desktop computer which controlled PH, Temp, etc
  12. Well hopefully the one I just ordered off the site lasts as long as your one. Cheers guys!
  13. Thanks Kiwiplymouth... I was trying to find them on that site! According to other peoples posts on the internet it seems as though the solenoids are rubbish on these UP Regulators, I'm just wondering whether its even worth replacing it?
  14. Faulty solenoid I purchased an "up" branded co2 regulator from EBay a couple of months ago, and after little use the solenoid has failed. Basically it no longer allows co2 to pass through the regulator when switched on and now has started making a humming sound while powered. Is anyone familiar with this problem / regulator? I have seen they do sell replacement solenoids on ebay. But, if I can fix the fault myself it would be a lot easier than ordering and waiting for a part to arrive from China. Cheers, F
  15. Cool, so safe to full with water then?
  16. I'm looking on Ebay at different Bubble Counter options available, however, I am not too sure which the best option to go for... I quite like the idea of having one that sits directly off the regulator. But I'm worried that water would leak from the Counter into the regulator as there dosen't seem to be some form of check valve? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aquarium-CO2-CHECK-VALVE-Bubble-Counter-B-Regulator-/280746105813?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item415dc59bd5 Do any of you use these ones? Cheers, F
  17. Really cool idea! Why not just have another type of Glass inclosure on the top there and do away with the mesh?
  18. Nice tank man!! Are those Narrow leaf java fern's you have in there? I'm currently building a tank around the same size however a not quite as deep and will be running 4x24 T5's.
  19. I don't really have the knowledge to really be messing with that kinda thing. What would it cost to get someone qualified to make one up for me? Kiwiplymouth, I do like the look of that... did you order it off that site? If so, can you remember how much it ended up costing, and did you have to mount in on anything? Cheers, F
  20. Hi alanmin, How did you connect the thermostat to it?
  21. I'm wanting an external heater for my new tank that I'm planning. One that connects to canister filter, or possibly a heat pad of some sort? The tank will be around 100L and rimless. Cheers, F
  22. Some of the tanks at HHF in Albany have Stargrass carpeting... The leaves are also very small on their plants, so I'm guessing the lighting must have a lot to do with it. They run T8's I'm pretty sure?
  23. Wicked looking tank Mate... puts mine to shame!!! Looking forward to seeing updates, have you got any plans to CO2 it?
