  1. Cool well I'm thinking I may setup my hood like this, 2 x Lifeglo 4 x 10k white 2 x Powerglo What do you think? Winning?
  2. No you would be lucky to even grow Java Ferns well with that lighting. There wouldn't be any need for CO2 anyway. I guess I don't really have to worry so much as all I have in my is sand and shells for the shellies But I'm over the warm lighting, I want something white!
  3. PowerGlo... Yes or No? I have an aquarium with mostly stargrass, swords, glosso. Looking to put heaps more in the tank. Would it be worth while me putting one or two in? Or should I just run with LifeGlos?
  4. They haven't breed for about a month now. Before that they were breeding every two weeks or so. However, the female looks as though she is holding a million eggs at the moment, hopefully I get some eggs soon!
  5. Thanks mate. Heres a link for ya... http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/mypla ... oides.html It's a lot easier to grow than what people say. However, it does require good lighting and good substrate.
  6. thanks guys, Bishop are you talking about the grass like stuff? If so thats Glosso.
  7. Here's a few pictures of my tank which houses my breeding pair. Sorry about the photo quality, an Iphone is all I have for a camera at the moment  Also, the right hand side of the tank is currently under going a refit so please ignore the open space
  8. I use a blade to clean the glass on the tank. No issues with scraching.
  9. I'm beginning to think that its pretty hit and miss... I have read on the net that people think Sunsuns are silent... well they are NOT  Heaps of people are saying the 1200 Aqua Ones are pretty silent though, and at 130 it might be worth a shot
  10. I'm hearing a common agreement that Fluval's are the way to go I purchased a second hand Ehiem which makes a bit of noise so its put me off purchasing a new one now, even though they have a great reputation. I just cleaned out the Sunsun tonight and it seems to be a little quieter.
  11. Oh that sucks. I'm sure they do make them however.
  12. How old is the 405? My Sunsun was pretty quiet at first (8 months ago) now it is probably twice is loud. Appart from the sound it seems like a pretty good filter. :-?
  13. Yeah he must do! I have only ever managed to get one spawn to the free swiming then they went missing :tears: I'm so keen to raise some of these guys to adulthood...
  14. lol I like that... But, I don't own the house. I was thinking more a long the lines of a top of the range cannister?
  15. So "if" money was not limit, is there a canister filter on the market that doesn't make a hum, or motor sound?
  16. Well I have a mate with a similar setup to mine who turns his filter off every night, and he has never had any trouble with water pollution... He keeps telling me to do the same... but, I'm not so game
  17. Hehe you should hear my fridge! With no other back ground sounds, do you think you could hear it from 4 meters away?
  18. Yeah I have a few aquaclears, and they are pretty good. However, I think my tank would be too deep for them to be very effective. I have fould that my aquaclears have loud motors from time to time too. But, on the whole are pretty silent.
  19. Oh any advice would be great, I have pretty much tired everything I can think of!! As for water conditions, My PH is 6.7 at the moment, with a very low KH (test kit changes colour on the first drop) DIY CO2 to help bring the PH down from 7.2 Environment: 50x50x120 (300 litre tank) Planted with Stargrass, Swords, Glosso, Java Ferns. One side of the tank is heavily planed, the other is a little bare at the moment as I'm remodelling. Lots of wood as well. Only other occupents in the tank is 1x bristlenose 2 x dwaf loach. All of witch the pair chase from time to time (when breeding) Filtration: 1x Sunsun forget the model but I think it does about 1400lph? Plans for the tank: More plants, more filtration, and pressurized C02 (I'll rehouse the breeding pair until I have this running prefectly) I can rehouse the other fish, however I have left them as I thought they would be good chasers.
  20. I'm looking at adding an additional filter to my 300 litre tank after reading up on how important it is to have lots of filtration in heavily planted tanks. So I'm now looking at different filter options, I currently have one Sunsun filter which can turn over my tanks volume of water at about 4.5 times an hour. Here's my problem, the tank is in my room and the sunsun has started to develop a pretty decent hum which is starting to annoy me at night as I'm a pretty light sleeper. So to get around this problem my idea is that I will use the Sunsun as purely a mechanical filter which is on a timer to shut off between the times I go to sleep. The new additional filter will be running 24/7, therefore will need to be VERY quiet, and will be used for the bio filtration of the tank. Has anyone got any recommendation with regards to which filters would be suitable for this purpose? I was thinking a large internal filter could be the go? Something like the new Fluval U series?? or am I better off going with an external? the only problem I have is I have never come across a silent operating one? Any advice would be great!
  21. I have seen a lot of people carpeting stargrass which looks to be running across the substrate. What method would I need to use to train the plant into doing this? Currently I have two large star grass plants in my aquarium, however, they only seem to grow up and hardly across at all. My tank: 300L 120X50X50 Daltons aquamix under around 4cm of fine gravel 4 x T5 lighting with two of them being 10,000k and the other two 6,500k Lifeglo's (Plus another 4 10,000K T5 which are not being run however are contained in the same lighthood on a separate switch) DIY CO2 (only one bottle so is probably not cutting the mustered) I'm in the process of setting up the tank with a full pressurized CO2 system however that is probably still a month away. So anyone any advice on how to carpet this stuff would be very much appreciated. I'm a complete newbee when it comes to training plants, so if any one could point me in the direction of some good reading material that would be great too. Thanks, Fraser
  22. Not German Blue Rams... My attempts are not turning out too well :tears:
  23. Well who knows I guess... Also, who did take my cookies?! I'm just amazed how fast the tetra got broken down by the bacteria in my tank
  24. Probably died in one of the shells mate. I had a sick tetra in a QT once, it didn't make it... I was lazy and didn't clean the tank out until afew days later. By that stage, it had completely broken down into nothing apart from a small piece of tail!
