  1. go on live a little. buy it you might end up having a badass plant... if not your'll have some other plant, cant be to bad i guess...
  2. same thing happened to mine! so frustrating! gah
  3. i just do a water change weekly and remove any dead leaves... really simple. everything is still in the tank, refin male is awesome, the upland male is my favourite fish though... when he goes black, like pitch black and you can see his gold markings on his fins AMAZING
  4. GSP - Posted 14 Hours Ago Tom G - Posted 16 Hours Ago frroK i actually built it myself i love that some people think its an ADA tank Yeah, probably no better a compliment! What progress has there been? Is your father home with the camera yet? update: things are starting to come together plants fish are all looking good! enjoy
  5. in all honestly what petshops charge (atleast in nelson) is absolutely undeniebly outragious. fish dont neccesarily lose value but most people wont pay petshop prices... i have never owned or sold bala sharks so cant give you a value. good luck.
  6. update: well its nearly 3 weeks of fish and all are alive certainly in the tank and feeding well. diatoms is rampant at the moment but water changes and patience should clear that up.
  7. the water level is already 5cm below rim, should i do more? the fish are still all in there 1 week later,
  8. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm point taken.... i have some thinking to do i think....lol?! maybe i should have put more consideration into planning this, but when bluether said it could work i guess i was a bit quick on the trigger. maybe i could just get a school of WCMM they would be easier to care for i think....
  9. those mosses, are they ones found in forests here? what sort of conditions do they require?
  10. thanks i know that its very risky not to use a lid. i am keeping this tank for asthetic pleasures purely and a cant really fashion a lip that doesnt change that, so if they stay in the tank like they have all this week they will be fine, if not well then i might get WCMM.
  11. with that light you really couldnt grow much, i have a similar light on my 54L tank. as already mentioned java fern anubias, with low lighting you realyy wont be able to grow many bright colourful plants. i would look into getting a better light but dont go to power full because then it becomes more complicated with more nutrients, co2 required for healthy groth and minimal health.
  12. so i put some in and they swirled around in the current i think they might have eaten a few, i deffinately saw the one hungry upland eat a few.
  13. i have tried blood worms a bit but the current is mental were the bullies like to hang around, ill keep trying them. thanks
  14. how long does it usually take for fish to start eating? its been 3 days now and im getting a tad worried only the one upland will eat a worm every now and again, i keep putting them in right infront of them and then removing them if they aren't taking it, will they realise its a food soon enough? how long does it usually take?
  15. great stuff guys! makes me want to start one, how big do their tanks need to be?
  16. lol keep track of fish, with large schools of tetra even in a bare tank you couldnt keep track of them. i agree with joe, the tank seem to be lacking, but is still very impressive. i hope the flame reignites for you, i love being excited about this hobby
  17. looks great, only thing i would change is that the rotala macranda (i think) is to far right, i would move it mor toward the middle but offset maybe to create a focal point. sick lights to man! jealousy is definately evidant
  18. ok thanks i dont plann on escape prrofing this tank, as it well looks crap with a lip so im going to try my luck
  19. thanks i cant wait to get plants thanks for the info how did you start feeding beef heart?
  20. UPDATE: here is the video of scaping the tank i now have 4 bullies, 2 upland 2 redfin the only problem im having is feeding, they have been in the tank for about 24hours now and most of the fish are turning their noses up to my offerings. i have had the smallest upland (5cm approx) scoff an earth worm but the rest seem not to be hungry. i got some beef heart today and was woundering how long it took for fish to start accepting it and how you go about introducing them to it..
  21. hahahaha mirror in the tank fantastic photography and fish
  22. thanks so much for your help! i plann on only have a small amount of bullie and lots of rocks so i think they should be ok... i hope... ill get the air pump cranking when they are settling in
  23. just read on another thread about not putting fish directly from stream to tank... how should i go about this? the tank will be set up new so could i just use that? should i get lotsa water from the stream?
