    Ranchu

Anyone keeping or breeding Ranchu? What's the difference between Ranchu and lionhead gf?
  2. Yeah, back from where I come from we HAVE to or you'd lose the entire stock but I was surprised when told I dont have to here in NZ. I've tried with my pond goldfish which seem to survive well but with tropicals I'm concern as it can wipe the entire stock off with one bad water. I believe at times they do use more chlorine to treat the water, esp after heavy rain. Definately not worth the risk as they deserve to live not just survive, worst to get them killed.
  3. Yes, there is such a thing led grow light, for hydroponics. I've seen it on fish mag as well but I recond the one for hydroponics may be cheaper and much more effective. Lets do some research into them, info thru nett or check them out at hydroponics store if they carry them. It'd be cheap to run, could be expensive if buy ready made but should be dirt cheap if we can DIY.
  4. This is fantastic . I'll look up for them at LFS or TM. Now I can sleep better knowing that the water changed is treated
  5. speaking about leds. Have anyone used led grow light? What's the difference between grow and normal?
  6. Sweet, lease I know my option, that's, don't even think about trying to strip, I've got shakie hand, haha. Unfortunately I've removed some of the oyster shells that I use to build up for them to hide. I believe she's dropped her fry last night but can't find any, hopefully some do survive in the shells . If I ever seen any of them holding I may jet get a breeding net or the plastic one and hold her there in the same tank to let her drop them there herself.
  7. ah, thanks for all the respond. I believe I've used sodium thiosulfate crystals before, it's like broken pieces of crystal stick. That was 15 yrs ago and I don't really know what it's call but sold at pet shop in Asia to breeder, off the counter. Any idea where can I get that here in NZ or even the prime that phoenix is using. I'd prefered the water treated for all my fishes, lol. I've set up a fish room in my garage. Although I filled my gold fish pond (outdoor), up directly from the tap(untreated) but I'm kind of worry to do the same with my tropicals. Presently I store water on my top level tanks for 2 days, hoping for the chlorine to evaporate but I know it isn't that simple.
  8. I was cleaning the gravel this morning but didn't notice any fish holding. I can't really tell even if I see it due to my inexperience. However I saw a dead fry floating while cleaning, thinking I lost them all, place all the rocks and oyster shells back in. An hour ago, while feeding I saw one that's holding. It was obvious, I can actually see the fry inside. Now, what should I do? Should I strip them, or net and placed her in a breeding net/cage or can I just leave her with her colony? I've no experience with stripping and to catch is almost impossible as they'll get mix up when my net go in. If I have to net her I would and if I have to strip I'll try. Your advice please would be very much appreciate.
  9. How many of you guys use anti chlorine? I filled my goldfish pond up direct with tap water, at times 80% on water changes, without any issue. I wonder if it's alright with tropical.
  10. oooops, lol. I mean crown tail, like the one on yr avatar
  11. could it be they are short of air/oxygen/over crowded. Try water changes see if it improves. Try to mantain the existing temp and ph while chinging the water. Bear in mind I'm not an expert thou, lol, but I hoipe this help.
  12. My friend show me this, actually it's his cousin from Singapore breeding them. They look so pretty . Thinking of getting some cross tail locally but they are so expensive. http://s782.photobucket.com/albums/yy10 ... %20bettas/

    Kia Ora

Gidday all, new to this, have an on off relationship with fish keeping in my life time. Wish u all and your fishes well Presently have a few electric yellow, demasoni, stripped(?), blue(?), brown(?), pink/orange(?), lol, Orandas and G/Bristonose. Tanks of various sizes, filters- canister (internal and external), box and bio. All the cichlids were within a month, the orandas 2 1/2 month. So it's a pretty new setup for all, lol. Orandas in pond, the rest tanks. Interested to start a breeding strain but unsure of which one to begin.
