  1. so i finally got the big guy from bird barn, hes settled in and happy but hasnt eaten so far (well not that i have seen while ive been feeding everything else) i have tried bloodworms as i think thats what he was fed on at BB, i have tried raw prawns and hes not interested, i will try garden worms tonight. what else can i try? how long should i expect him to go with out? my other one is fed daily he may have feasted on baby bristlenose that have escaped but i still see some of those around so not 100% sure. hes a BIG unit so needs to eat sometime! its been 4 days so far, and other than not eating hes been fine, out and about etc :dunno:
  2. Bugger! bloody cats aye :tears: ill get some full length shots of him tonight at feeding time for you
  3. ta  i dont know how to post pics
  4. hes doing really well, and comes out the same time every night for his feed lol hes about 25cm now, cant remeber what he was when i got him? http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/47/192324247_full.jpg http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/2/192323902_full.jpg the albino guppies produced any young yet?
  5. i will post regular updates and pics just for you A-town any idea of what its name was?
  6. hes on hold for me, and will feed him prawns, i already have a 25cm one, who i will be moving out of the big tank so am experienced with them, he will be my 4th one i have had in my fish keeping years, i do 1/3 water changes every sunday. ally - must have been! not sure the person feeding was the regular person as when i asked a few questions the answers were very brief
  7. thanks henward, ill be calling them today to see if its still there and to see if they would hold it till the 19th as i have a family friend coming down who has offered to bring it down for me, to save the $100 trip there and back so fingers crossed! :smln: if not heres hoping its still here on the 19th
  8. ha! im having the exact same problem! our pond freezes over in winter so i bought my orandas inside as they dont winter the best in frozen ponds and im too scared that ill lose them if i put them back out! i did it once but they looked so miserable and just sat on the bottom!
  9. so it would be nearing the end of its days? most places say 8-10yrs but there have been reports of up to 20 years? would hate to buy it to have it die 6months later of old age! although thats fish i guess
  10. oh also, when i saw it, we went in at "feeding time" and the whole tank got 4 bloodworm cubes between them, there was about 20 biiiig fish in there and when i asked, thats all they got
  11. thanks henward, i dont know if my tank would be big enough for him but its certainly bigger than the one hes in atm and he would be the only thing in it. now to decide wether to get him or the massive goldfish i was going to get for the pond...... :nilly: he was seriously awesome, if i took a 60l container with a clip on lid do you think he would be ok for the 2.5 hour drive back? he wouldnt be able to weasel his way out i wouldnt think
  12. at bird barn is for sale? it was the biggest one i have ever seen and makes mine seem like a worm! i felt sorry for him in the tiny tank though, it said large fire eel $120 but seriously that thing was like XXXXXL not just large but he was the only one i could see :dunno:
  13. so just eggs? or could be something internal?
  14. someone is giving this oranda away as she is "bloated + red under the belly" having seen dropsy i didnt think she had it as shes not as much like a "pine cone" as others i have seen, and she just looks full of eggs? and perhaps the redness is from males having a go at her? http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/75/190900475_full.jpg http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/51/190900551_full.jpg (dont know how else to upload pics) :dunno: if its dropsy i wont take her, but if shes full of eggs and just needs a rest i will
  15. the little guy in the pic has gone golden again, with a brown tail, but i had a look at the others and about 50% are spotted, but not completely brown, all egg sac's are gone now and they are scooting round, i will try take more photos

    Dropsy

how much tea tree oil? tonight i noticed my pride and joy has it &c:ry (my profile pic) and i want to do what i can to prevent him dying!
  17. my orandas wen covers 3/4 of his eyes (my profile pic) but i would never trim it for the risk of the things you said, infection etc. sorry i dont know a vet, but my mine has no issues eating as he goes along the bottom sucking stuff up while the others fight up the top
  18. my bristlenose have just bred and i rescued a couple that have ventured out of their bamboo prematurely, mum is an albino dad is a black eyed golden, mum hasnt bred before and dad has never thrown brown babies (as far as im aware?) the 3 i rescued look to be one albino, one black eyed golden , and one mottly brown golden thing!! could the mottly one be a throw back from wayyy back? hes not fully brown very patchy but may change?
  19. well i have wrigglers!!! :nilly: i thought to myself the other day she didnt look as pink and full anymore but thought nothing of it, and he was staying in the bamboo but thought he wasnt happy enough to come out. hes only been here a week today and the babies are at wiggly stage!! man they work fast!
  20. great thats what i normally do, thanks!
  21. awesome, how often do you reckon?
  22. when and picked up my lepoard fish yesterday, 3 females 2 males, cant wait for babies! although i hear they dont breed as fast as guppies? so i might be waiting a bit!
  23. thanks, she has never bred before so it will be exciting when she does, she is albino and the male is black eye so im guessing ill get black eye babies? as that is dominant? :dunno:
  24. this is one of my female bristles, she has been alone for a few months after killing "mr bristles". i have since bought a breeding pair and she has become very plump and pink and interested in the bamboo the new ones came with and also the new "mr bristles" much to his former wifes discust! dont know how to upload picks but click on this link http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/49/188656449_full.jpg
