  1. how often is the water change? are you at 26 degrees?
  2. Hi all, I'm trying to find some info on these as there is a local stockist selling JAD full setups at relatively competitive prices. Have any of you had experiences with JAD aquariums? if so how do you rate them? I'm having trouble finding reviews for it online. Thanks in advance
  3. Awww... would be awesome to have some unfortunately there are no unique sets (colonies) of Dwarf Cichlids in the local pet shops even between lfs and animates(plural) when it comes to dwarves.
  4. Hi there, just resurrecting this thread out of interest... Are there any more of these around now? Beautiful fish these.
  5. What are you willing to pay for a fish like that?
  6. All doing fine, one of the blue chicks was actually a dude the rest are "Bulking" lol
  7. I can honestly say that these fish are top notch! They are fed live food everyday
  8. A true MG will have that outline
  9. I think the first set... someone bought off me on tm for $25 ea. A guy later bought all of mine that I set aside for sale which is about 7 for 100$ My keepers went to a friend of my mothers who did not breed them. They got as big as the huge female you have and then they passed on I think. He had somewhere around 7 Identical to him when I bred him with a similar girl but they didn't all have his blue outline but had the dark body with black mask and yellow fins (My Black ghost line which looked like the one in the last of the three pictures posted above) I didn't continue that line due to personal reasons. I regret that now, very very deeply.
  10. They are indeed!! I took one off her , I have vids of him somewhere...and a Cambodian CT female, he was a very good parent fish.
  11. I'm up for a good mustardgas regardless of tail type. Only if genuine yellow finnage on dark body with purple or blueish outline on fins. on second thought I'd be keen on yellow finnage alone
  12. If you're having trouble with Mustard gas getting him to do his thing... might want to sell him or try show him a female for encouragement, remove tank lid and see if he blows bubbles in cold air? if you think he's genuinely old that's how you will find out if he wants to breed or not. The whole VT thing... I sold one for $15 a while back depends how well you advertise and the quality of your photo. IMO There is no supreme tail type in this type of fish... they are all same species and yet some clubs frown upon crossbreeding. Whatever is the most (aesthetically pleasing) popular is what breeders aim for hence the high amount of attention paid to "DUMBO" and HALFMOON The market ran out of spadetails that way, they are real pretty but some call them an eyesore. There are exceptions though with any fish like Dragon VT with good scaling... some breeders may be interested but currently its just a fancy thing with people saying things like "I have a special fighting fish" "crowntail is better than halfmoon blah blah blah" I'd use a good VT for coloration or to start a new line but once I went plakat I knew I would not find anything more stable yet plakats are cheap as chips lol.
  13. Just float the bag for ages... I don't use stress coat or anything, that just goes in when I do water changes and I'd rather the fish work with the water than vice versa. Which fish did you buy? generally fighters don't need much time to acclimate if your tank is the right temp and pH. Did you buy from tm? if so link to auction please
  14. Will work with you on this one if you want as I'm already selling whatever is leftover to start on Halfsun.
  15. Oh yep, sounds sweet. Its good that you have a batch going... will be nice to see how they turn out. I'm in New Windsor so couldn't be me... plus the ones I got had dragon gene on them. Let me know if you need any more help. A good crowntail is hard to find is yours a king crowntail? its not clear from photos
  16. There are combtails on TM but its in chch and the seller won't respond to me, grab some of those if you have friends at chch. I say go with comb because those are which you can cross for faster access to more CT'S the C here standing for Crown. :f77: Its only Superdelta x CT and therefore you should get best spread of le tail if you get access to those ones from TM. Where did you get those fish btw? If the tail overlaps with top and bottom fins when flared it'll confirm if hm if not then god only knows what cross. I had a few I had to get rid of when I ordered from chch it was mix of pk and pure hm... wondering if you got em from me? It gets harder to breed them as they age(females) cause they demand a stronger male. I suggest you get that CT in as soon as you can with one of the girls... see what happens. if it works then you can go on with Adrienne's suggestion of step breeding over several generations. Birdbarn had some CT females few months ago but looked a bit old. Dunno about now but I do mean to go there again soon.
  17. Sorry bro got conversation confused and later phone played up (darn xperia sola) running on "dumb phone" atm but will drop you a line again very soon.
  18. If its a smartphone, normally I e-mail it to myself and then download from the net lol
  19. Hi again, Crowning is when the rays in the tail are sticking out of the border like how crowntails have long rays (spikes) with little webbing. Most storebought betta females have some degree of crowning and usually its eliminated when breeders choose what they want to breed for except when they choose to breed crowntail lol
  20. are your HM females showing any signs of crowning? can you please put some pics up of your hm females?
  21. I might give you an e-mail sometime next week, come round and see what you've got if that's fine by you.
  22. YEP, this was what I was expecting to see here this is probably the best breeding advice I've got yet... I may set up with some sort of cichlid and bristlenose in one tank to use for culls. I've not culled before but seeing how many juveniles I have here I do see the point in not letting a few enter the gene pool. Thanks again Adrienne I have a few VT females I can use atm... does anyone want freebies? (my unwanted juveniles)
  23. I have a nice Blue with bits of red plakat, he will be a year old on the 3rd, He's got a good muscular body... I've finally come to the conclusion that traditional PK are probably the hardiest when it comes to fins and body structure (wide body), he's got some sort of extended ventrals which may be a desirable trait to some breeders. TM: In this search for good fish I accompanied my mate to help him complete a purchase. He bought a couple fighters on impulse, turned out they were good females but missed the ventrals due to overfeeding (done that before) they are crowntail apparently but no use to me if I cant see obvious crowning. (Expression of gene has to be prominent) I agree those HM's had jagged edges on the tail. I remember when my mate got me a Copper Dragon HM from hff who had similar fins a little while back, He lost all his finnage over a period of 4 months, didn't spread it to any other fighters I had him housed with... that may just be a rare case but its the main reason I want to deal with a female HM instead of male. I think that's where this website comes in handy (forums) The experienced breeders who are on here are keen to help when contacted... but I'm sure they know how hard it is to get a good shaped female of any tail or fin variety, except for PK. and still no luck with the search...
  24. So I went in to Hff today, had nothing special except in terms of colours... they did have a black male CT but he had a significant amount of webbing, animates a little further along from them didn't have much except "dumbo" and delta types so will just do trips around st lukes to see what I can find, I'm just trying to figure out some way of using my unwanted juveniles... maybe use it for aquaponics or something...
  25. How hardy are the fins on a rosetail compared to HM?
