  1. ok, thanks for the feedback, last time it dropped this low i lost half my fish so was starting to worry again, was an expensive exercise... the tank has always sat at pretty much bang on 7.0, my chart only goes down to 6.0 and it was on the yellower side of the chart, thanks heaps for the feedback I have the normal Cycle stuff, and stresscoat, is this what you mean?
  2. 6.0 according to my chart, I started typing this, checked pH last night, just under 7.0, Ill just paste what I had to start with - except now I know the answer to why the fish are acting a bit wierd.. but if theres anything else that anyone can think of to correct I would be grateful for any input Hello all, sorry about the vagueness of the title, but my fish are being a bit weird... I moved my tank yesterday, from the lounge/dining where it was getting too much sunlight (and turning the water so green you couldn't see through it in 2days) to the hallway where its a lot darker so hopefully the water stays clearer! Anyway, I removed the fish and put them all together in a large large bucket, with water from the tank and a heap of stress-coat, I put the plants etc in there too so they could hide out , And I also kept as much of the original aquarium water as possible (a full CF1200 Filter, 3x 10litre buckets and however big the huge green bucket is (approx 25-30L). When I moved the tank I moved the substrate around a little, and added some nice stones etc in there, which of course made the water very cloudy and probably sent the ammonia levels through the roof, I then sucked out most of the water that was cloudy, and started refilling the aquarium with water from the buckets and fresh water treated with plenty of stress-coat. After that I had a minor heart attack, I heard a fizzling sort of noise coming from the tank, as I walked closer I heard a loud POP and could smell burning electrics, and saw pieces of glass floating to the bottom of the tank, I raced and turned off the electricity, and found that my heater had disintegrated and was hanging in about 3 different parts   thankfully none of the fish started floating, as I thought they may do! I noticed last night some of the fish (mainly the two sword-tails, one male, one female) are hanging around the ground area a lot, and the rainbow sharks were doing the same. This morning they were a little more lively however I'm still a little worried, the sword-tails are not as active as they were... the female is hanging around the top alot, just with her mouth at the edge of the water.. The angels have gone back to fighting and the Odessa's are chasing eachother around again and the Tiger Barbs have their orange back, but I a a little worried, the Rainbow Sharks are not very active and neither are the swordtails, particularly the female, any ideas? Can take pics if required? Please tell me if I am just being paranoid or if something needs to be done! Many thanks!! FYI - Tank - AR620T Filters - Stock AR620T filter and Aqua One CF1200 Substrates - Medium Black gravel & Mixed stones Plants - Unknown Names, Will post pics if required Temp - 27 Degrees pH - 6.0 - Crap just realised this is bad bad bad, - and this is where I started this thread from. Fish - 1x Black Lace Angel (Male) 1x Marble Angel (Male) 1x Marble Angel (Female) 2x Large Golden Striped Loaces 4x Tiger Barbs 4x Male Odessa Barbs 2x Female Odessabarbs 1x Black Male Sword-Tail 1x Black Female Sword-Tail 1x Golden Bristle-nose Plecostomus 1x Rainbow Shark 1x Albino Rainbow Shark Sooo in answer to you're question, not sure what made it drop so suddenly, could it be lack of sunlight? compared with heaps yesterday?
  3. great, thank for the fast response!! just out of interest now.. can baking soda be used? - and how?
  4. Hey all, I moved my tank yesterday and now my PH has gone down really low, really quickly, Ive read that I can use Baking Soda to raise the Ph Level - is this true? Whats the safest way to use it? How much should I use? I will perform a 30% or so water change and hopefully that will help But please respond ASAP with how to use baking soda effectively! Cheers!
  5. Cheers, turns out that its the ammonia thats killin them, my second one (in my communal tank) died last night, i did a pretty heavy vaccuum and obviousally stirred up alot of the gravel, found him stiff as a board too thismorning my LFS had said that there are some flakes that i can put in the filter that will remove ammonia, anyone know how effective these are, im getting quite upset about all my fish dying
  6. ive got a albino rainbow and a normal, both are little and happily get along with my tigerbarbs, angels, glasscats, redspot plecs, odessabarbs, etc, seem to be a very happy pair of fish, good luck!
  7. Waterflow is a powerhead cranking as fast as it can, but quite close to the surface, the bubbles you can see in the vid are from the filter with a airline teed into the outlet, works really well, again quite close to the surface, where he was there wouldnt be a whole lot of current, but some the other melon barbs in there love the current
  8. he was cool, till i woke up thismorning and he was sitting on the bottom, rigid as a rock, poor guy obviousally didnt like the change of environment... man i gotta buy a big test kit thing, but my local fish shop doesnt know what im talking about? they said i can buy the kits seperately but not all as one? im gonna get the ammonia levels tested today.
  9. sorry guys, i managed to post in the wrong area again  whats what happens when you start something, then go to work, then come back and finish it can a mod please move this to the freshwater area? cheers also ill relable thanks, glad to know hes just being a loony
  10. is this normal behaviour for a Redspot Plec when hes introduced into a new tank?? thought hes a bit funny, but then again, all he did in the communal tank was hide out  Innit he gorgous !!
  11. Hmmm ok, ill buy one tonight, ive got the normal GH, KH, and pH test kits, but never was even told about ammonia and nitrate level testers.. The filter is probably working overtime, as theres alot of fish in there, the tank is overstocked.. list of fish : 2 male angels, 2 plecs, 5 tiger barbs 1 male swordtails (used to be two) 3 female swordtails 4 male odessa barbs 2 female odessa barbs 1 albino rainbow shark 1 rainbow shark I have got another tank which i was planning on moving some fish into, however i found out that internal filters do not balance out the ammonia levels? apparantly they cannot remove it? so as soon as i buy a external filter ill start transferring fish... cheers
  12. Great Thanks!! Just a stab in the dark, does anyone recognise what is wrong with the swordtail? the top fin looks similar to finrot to me, but his rear "sword" doesnt.. has anyone seen this before?
  13. Update - He didnt make it through the night... but would still like to know how to test the above? Cheers
  14. Water temp is approx 26 degrees celcius, filtration is the stock AR620t setup, two filters at top, powered by a powerhead of some description how do i measure amonia, nitrate? pH was pretty much bang on 7.0 yesterday afternoon waterchanges have been frequent recently as the tank has a habit of clouding up / going green if left to one WC per week, most changed is 35%, normally 25% cheers... hes still alive so far..
  15. Is that for the Odessa or for the sword? or both? How bad is too bad? Is it contageous??
  16. This is him just the other week when he was all healthy And back to his current condition.... please help!!!
  17. Hey guys, is this fish pretty much had it? hes one of my origional swordtails, i noticed thisafternoon that his fins seem to have seperated, the bottom fins are extremely short, and extremely skinny, and hes just hiding at the bottom of the tank, moving asthough hes hyperventilating.. heres some pics, also noticed a female odessabarb has the bottom part of her tail missing!?!?! very worried - never had these problems till now!!! Odessa with Fin missing Swordtail
  18. Great, thanks are there any other bulbs that have other benefits? Is it possible to use halogen lamps? Ive got one floating around that can be edited to suit
  19. Wow yours looks awesome! The tank is approx 910mm Long, 380mm wide, and 390mm high, with approx 5mm glass Which light? im still not sure what kind of bulb to use, halogen or normal house bulb? I just want the light to keep the plants alive, the fish happy and healthy, and to make the tank look nice when it gets darker plus any other benefits that it may have??
  20. Whatever these are and im wanting to breed fish in the tank too, at this stage odessa barbs, then swordtails, etc
  21. Hey everyone, im just investigating what would be involved in making a light for a tank i have on the cheap, is it possible to use a desklamp, or a few? what sort of bulbs are reccommended? i was thinking 2x halogen lamps aimed over the tank, would look pretty alright i think but not sure about the bulbs?? any info would be greatly appreciated, cheers!! :bounce:
  22. holy crap! can anyone confirm that these ARE redspot pleco's? everyone seems pretty sure! bit worried now , the swordtails are all over 5cm except the little black one, most are prob closer to 7 or 8cm, no sign of a sword appearing on the females yet, maybe the black one will suprise me, thats a trick for young players!! thanks!!
  23. lol thanks, yes both angels are males, and i have two of these plec's, they are approx 6 or so cm long each, but super hard to accurately measure. In the tank i have : 2 male angels, 2 plecs, 5 tiger barbs 2 male swordtails 3 female swordtails 4 male odessa barbs 2 female odessa barbs 1 albino rainbow shark 1 rainbow shark 1 glasscat (badly in need of some friends) lol slightly overstocked.... BUT there is another tank, approx 150L with 5 of those "melon barbs" in there, just testing the water :-? - will be more balanced when im sure the water is ok. AND soon to be a AR850 :bounce: my partner is going to kill me 8) 8)
