    Otocinclus

Otocinclus invisiblis in my tank. 15 of them in my planted 400l, and I've seen the grand total of three at once
  2. I really liked the ship design. It had a cool organic, bio-engineered look to it. That was the only thing I liked about the movie  Does anyone else watch the Half in the Bag reviews on Youtube? They are great at putting a finger on exactly why some movies suck. If you have a spare couple of hours, their take down of the Star Wars prequels are fantastic.
  3. I've found that if you have two filters, it's best to have the intakes and outflows matching, otherwise you get unpredictable deadspots in the tank. You want to aim for a circulating flow as Smidey described a few posts up.
  4. :gpo2: Ah, the joys of international travel. Could be worse - you could be going to the States...
  5. This one's a little odd, too :bggrn:
  6. You've got to hand it to Rick He's doing a good job as a Dad, all things considered.
  7. Found a bunch of info on methanol here Turns out it's no big deal Good luck with your moonshining!
  8. I'm confused - drinking alcohol is ethanol, so what do you mean by the ethanol flavor? :dunno: How do you prevent methanol traces from ending up in the final product, careful temp control when distilling? do you have to test for methanol? Always wondered this about homemade spirits.
  9. Not such a bad analogy if you imagine them playing Glastonbury :dnc1:
  10. Between the Lines is a fantastic liquid dubstep album :bounce:
  11. If you watch the video, you can hear him say the left barrel is simulating a bio filter. So yeah, this is purely mechanical filtration.
  12. Browsing various fish keeping web sites and forums, including this one, I keep seeing people saying that surface agitation provides more dissolved oxygen than an air stone does. To me, this seems like a basic science fail, and is more like lore that people see and keep repeating without thinking about it. If you consider that the surface area of a sphere is 4*Pi*R2 then a 1cm bubble adds 3.14 cm2. Multiply that by the number of bubbles and you soon start to see the huge amount of extra surface area bubbles add for gas exchange. Have a play with this surface area calculator and see what you think. Yet fish keepers have no issues with getting as many bubbles as possible when using CO2 for planted aquariums. In this context, suddenly getting as many bubbles as possible is good as you get more dissolved CO2. So why is this different to getting oxygen via bubbles? I did a quick search on this, and the best description I found to back my opinion was this guy's page. There were tons of sites saying the opposite, but none with any explanation, just statements with no reasoning provided. What do you guys think, am I missing something and full of it? Feel free to show me the error of my ways. My ultimate fantasy is this will be the start of a groundswell of Interweb discussion that will rise up and slay this myth once and for all!
  13. Should be ok as long as you don't have a moon light for breeding? :digH:
  14. Thanks, Sam - been meaning to give brine shrimp a go. Random sort of place to find them

  16. Saw a review of the Current-USA timers today :bounce: Still don't see them on sale, but should be any day now
  17. Ah, right. Just googled "mystery snails" - now I get what you're on about  I've never heard them called that before. No idea sorry, but there's lots of sites mentioning breeding tips for them.
  18. Overfeeding usually increases snail numbers :dunno:
  19. Powdered fry food sounds good. I used that, and then sinking wafers when they were a bit bigger. There was one pic link in your post, I stopped counting wrigglers when I got to 30 :slfg:
  20. On Photobucket, when you have an image open there will be a list of "Links to share this photo" on the right. Click on the IMG one, and just paste that into your post :dnc1: Have you thought about what you're gonna feed the fry when they hatch?
  21. Can you hear the solonoid click/thunk when you power it on/off? edit: I should learn to read the questions better
  22. I use one of those cheap shower thingies with the rubber cups that slip onto taps.
