  1. You need to have water that is 5ppm (I read that as 5 drops before the water turns yellow with the KH test kit) before Snail Rid is safe to use in a tank with fish in it. Apparently toxic to fish when it's lower but maybe that also means it doesn't work when the water is too soft?? Seems to me like he could adjust the softness as he sees fit till the snails die off, change lots of the water and see how it is for putting the fish in. MTS don't like excel overdoses though this could be in relation to the pH as well. There are so many variables and I have so few brain cells to keep up with them all
  2. Yes I was thinking that too. You can contact Ken and he will probably make a prediction if he hasn't put it somewhere already, or he might put something out next year. I think how it's done is he plots the path of the moon over the country in conjunction with how far away it is, in conjunction with the speed it's travelling ie faster at moon rise/set and some other things I can't remember, there is a bunch of variables that when they all collide it makes for trouble. It's quite mathematical. I will say he has been quite wrong sometimes but also very right too. He seems to get the big stuff right.
  3. Some might find this perspective on the earthquakes interesting.. http://www.predictweather.com/ArticleSh ... &type=home It has been the 2nd closest moon to the earth for the year, we often get weather bombs and such like around those times.

    Scheeli fry log

After the latest showing he's now disappeared. One appearance a night only!
  5. would it be silly to think it would revive in water? after all there will still life left in the rhizome?? well not so much revive, but to get rid of the old leaves and put out some new ones.

    Scheeli fry log

Spotted fry again! I have been searching and searching the riccia on the top for a wiggle but then I saw him on the bottom hanging out on the rock. As he's transparent he blends in very well and the other fish so far take no notice. Fishy is a miniature killie complete with mini fins, goggle eyes and mouth that chomps things. 5mm long. I was beginning to think he had either been eaten or I'd been seeing things. :bounce:
  7. maybe the Angels have been pre programmed by the pet shop to eat your fish so you have to hurry back and buy more!
  8. since last post ice cream has mysteriously disappeared...
  9. i've got an 8w T5 14,000k over 50cm x 28x 30 deep and growing ambulia and cabomba well. Also twisted val, riccia, duckweed and tiger lotus, hydrocotyle and 2 new crypts. Plants not doing well are java fern (though new babies are very green), and bolbitis/congo fern - jury still out on that plant but the issue could be not much current making it sad. I started a thread asking about these lights and the consensus was that mine was within the range of OK light for plants, though generally suited for marine.
  10. the local one to you has more of it, saw some this morning

Saw it last night, roaming through a gap in the floating plants. Tail thin like thread, head the size of a pin head and maybe 5mm long. Haven't seen it since, or any others, they are hidey little buggers. :bounce: :bounce:
  13. thanks Ryan and Bilbo, I will get back to eating the ice cream and then I will start up my first culture!
  14. that's what I said but less eloquently
  15. I'm going to try this way of raising grindal and/or white worms (after I've eaten the ice cream in the container )... Question is: do I need to wet the scouring pads? I have seen a couple of examples where there is an under-layer of pad, then another pad on top that the worms live on. All tips welcomed
  16. I think it's cute, a fishy village  they are going to need letterboxes too don't forget

  18. when I had otos there was always one fatter than the other, one as fat as yours but I never saw any eggs. Bikbok has them now.
  19. Reece, if you bring the edge of the top rocks over the front edge of the slate caves slightly, you won't see the difference in rock shape so much. All you will see is the bump of the round rock and the little doorway underneath.
  20. all that's missing is a little doorbell for when they have visitors..
  21. thanks for the info Fugly and Alan
