  1. you are so romantic Stella....
  2. I should have sent those damsels to you to appreciate instead of sending them to the big pond in the sky. I read that the adults lay their eggs on the surface of the water so I thought I must have picked them up at the last trawl. There haven't been any since but I am still keeping an eye out! I am going to have another go at daphnia when I get the green water going again so I know they are getting food. Zev - are you about? WHat substrate have you got in your daphnia and rasbora tank? Is there any peat in there? I remember the water looked brownish or maybe it was just the effect from the lighting.
  3. only 1 or 2 daphnia left now &c:ry
  4. my shrimp are currently sharing a pea with a worm and they have made a large dent in it.
  5. It can take a while for their barbels to become damaged and obviously some fish will be tougher than others. But if you want to have a fish whose only goal in life is to rootle in the substrate and sift particles through their gills, why would you not give them the substrate they need to perform. :dunno: It's like getting a goldfish and saying you want to keep it in warm water. The reason I'm saying this is because they are such sweet little fish and if you haven't bought the gravel yet there is nothing to lose by getting them something smooth.

rose (Charles, that Willy post could have lowered the tone of the whole thread  :happy2: )
  7. she needs to go out fishing with lures, I think she'd enjoy it
  8. Corydora are best with rounded smooth gravel or fine sand. Sharp grit and gravel will over time hurt their barbels and they risk death or infection. If you didn't have cory I think it would be fine on top of the aquatic mix but I haven't used the stuff myself so someone else better answer that part.
  9. looks like a relative of Basement Cat
  10. Killies genetic predisposition is for them to live in a shallow mud puddle, so I don't think growth stunting is an issue in your tank. They are one of the most suitable fish for a small tank - mine is 33L and I have about 15 of various sizes so your guys are still in a mansion with just the 2 of them. Many people have them in tanks about that big or smaller, and breeders will have more in there too. I think they will be fine in either tank - presuming the other tank has a lid. One of my big fry actually jumped right out this evening and landed on the floor with a full tummy. Gave itself a shock and went to hide on top of the filter when I'd put it back in. At feeding time it can get quite competitive! You have plants and stuff so there are hiding places if they require. Your call in the end, if you aren't sure then leave them be a bit longer.
  11. hahahaha that shrimp is a really good actor, has it stopped playing now?
  12. where are they now and where do you want them to go, and with whom? killies are pretty fast at dashing about
  13. so when do you get to eat them? (just kidding) (you'd need more than 3 for a meal)
  14. haha good on her she is a girl with a goal!
