Yes that would be the way to go as I've had a discus in a hospital tank before and got it back to health. My stunted discus is best buddy's with the other discus there is no problems only the blue ram tries to be a hero and chases him around a little but other than that I seem to have a happy tank I guess it's because I haven't over stocked it. I'm leaving some room incase something else catches my eye

Yea my silly computer spat out a microchip or something when I submitted the post and then said I had to re send the info so therefore ended up on here twice!!!! I know I might be stirring up a hornets nest but was thinking that there might be a market for smaller discus as not everyone can afford the big tanks, running gear or fish. Mind you I one day would like to fill my tank with these magnificent fish, I would love to get some from the discusgru one day even some ex breeders looking for a retirement tank will do for me :lol:

Hello I thought while I have five minutes spare I'd introduce myself I live on a lifestyle block on the lower kaimais with my husband and two kids along of corse with lots of different animals (horses,cows,rabbits,gunieapigs and cats) and not to forget my fishtank. Its 300 litre with daltons water plant mix on the bottom and washed sand on the top and I currently have two discus one is stunted (I brought him like that I felt sorry for him/her) but I figure that just because he/she is small doesn't give me the right to flush him down the toliet! They live along with a blue ram,prestilier (spelling) tetras, guppies and a lepord pleco. Well I guess thats me (Megan)

Thats the puzzeling thing there has been no changes whatso ever in my tank and we have bore water so that didn't change either when doing my water changes and the tank is about three months old now so not a new set up by any means

I dont have those test kits will try getting some today. would the test be accurate as the water isnt crystal clear to start with or will the teat do its thing even though the water is green.

If I do a black out for that amount of time without feeding my fish will the baby guppies be OK I have a nursery haning off the side of the tank with about thirty or so in it ages ranging from born today to almost ready to leave the nursery.

Hello, I have a nice big tank (300lt) on display as you walk in our door except almost overnight I got what others have described as an algae bloom. The water has turned bright green, I have tried the 48hr black out and some TLC from the pet shop but to no avail also a 50% water change the fish are doing fine but I have to be careful what chemicals to put in as I have some discus. Any suggestions???? Thanks

I must have a wild caught type x discus then because I have had him/her for four and a half years now and he/she is a very happy contented fish that follows me around from one side of the tank to the other and not one day has gone by without his/her bars showing also very bright blue and light brown in colour on body with the brightest red eyes!!!

Pitty you dont live in Tauranga my husband is in his mid 30ies and into RC planes piper cubs to be more exact and he gets the same thing at the club with him being the youngest by far!!!

I have been checking the water about once a week now and the only thing that went slightly out of sorts was the PH and i've had no fish die and it's been about four weeks now so I think everything I did was good and also got help from someone who is in the know so there are other ways to do things that work just as well and I just said in the last post what worked for me, it might not be the "right way" in some peoples view but I still have my fish Discus, blue ram, tetras, guppies and a pleco.

I just want to say a big thank you to Ron and everyone else who tried to help me with my discus the male is doing well in a couple of weeks or so I will add him to my display tank but sadly the female discus died today I will be on the look out for a nice blue female or other colour without bars in the near future if anyone knows of something at a reasonable price please keep me in mind. Hi there, I myself have just set up a new tank (upgraded from 150lt to 300lt) and I used all new material, I just let the tank sit for a week with filter and heater going adding stress zyme as per instruction and after checking the water I added the not so expensive fish into the new tank for a week and none of them died so then I added my other fish (discus and blue ram) and everybody is very happy in their new home and I also had that black hairy growth problem in my old tank and was told that maylasian trumpet snails eat it along with all the dead leaves of your plants and leaving the heathy leaves so got some of them off trade me too. I have set my 300lt tank up with Daltons aquatic plant mix and Daltons washed sand on top and it's good to buy pre washed sand because it saves you alot of mucking around, it took a couple of days to clear but my plants and fish (Discus, blue ram and guppies) love it, it makes the tank look nice and clean. I had some advice of getting maylasian trumpet snails to help airate the sand so it wont go green so some of them are hanging around in the bottom now to which I brought off trade me from a boy doing some fund raising for a school trip to Aussie. So long story short sand is good

Well I brought a discus off someone and when I went to pick it up in another tank I saw this sick discus and asked if I could have a go at fixing it so he came home as well, I have put him in a 30lt tank with no lighting (just natural) and sent a photo of him to a person in the know at my local pet shop where she said he looks to have flagyl. I no it's not worms because the person I got him off doses all his fish with prazi. I have got the temp at 30 deg and running the filter with no actived carbon. So far I have only put some melafix in the water as medication as he has some knocks from the trip home. He has a good appetite on peas and discus tucker which I'm feeding about four times a day then changing about 35% water daily and taking out uneated food. He looks to of perked up heaps swiming around the tank instaed of sitting there and good colour to now. So it's such a long story but thought I'd give a run down on the history. Does anyone out there have some Metronidazole I could buy off them as I have tried at the vet clinic's and I can only get huge bottles and very costly, please help I really want this discus to get better.
