Wooo it is getting nice. I can see that Java moss is great. Nice tank. mac
  2. Okay I wont as such answer our question a round about way. But this is how I do what you are saying. Now get this I never ever vacuum my gravel. Just leave it the way it is. So an example is this. I have a 48in 20in 20in [And I know we use cms here. But I don't care. To me inches are more accurate and logical.] tank. A great set up I have found. Now I regret as such I never added any fert substrate to the tank. But oh well all is slowly growing. Now it may not sound like I am answering your question but I AM. As I said I never added any fert to it. So it is just plain sand. Which is about 1-4 inches. Was 4 inches fully thick but my loaches have changed some of it around. So for filtration I have a Fluval canister 304. And that is all. It gets just water taken out every week and add. And the filter once a month. Tank is going good. Has gone through a great cycle. And has been very stable the whole time it has been running which is well over a year. So all debbie in the tank I don't have much off. There is a bit around some logs but stuff all. But if I dig down into the sand it is slowly forming a great media for the plants. And it must be working because I don't know the exact name but I know it is a crypt is growing like mad. And most other plants have gone good in it. The same has been done in all my tanks bare for my Rift tank which gets good cleaning as much as I can around the rocks. Now with constantly gravel vac of the tank is okay in ways. You keep phosphates down. But you got to beef up the filtration. So for me I like the middle of the two. Now I do get small amount of phosphate but I don't care. I got a nice set up of SAE and BN which clean all up for me. But then again that was very slowly getting less. And now I can't even seen much phosphate in the tank at all. So I hope this has helped a bit. mac

  9. Well I cant really say any more. Because that it what CRT's name is on the front of all their shop fronts. In all towns that have them. Same with RD1 and PGW.
  10. Mine are all spot on. Some of them are normally out by 2' for safety of the fish. Was the light on the heater always on? Or just was it on when you looked at it. Because it may have just turned on.
  11. I know some are large. I managed to get a mod banned. So that as large a toes I step on. That aside were is the tape measure. Time to measure my toe. Thanks for the welcome guys. [Not being anti woman. Just using the general term.] mac

  13. Hey guys, Well a little of me. I am a fish forum fan. Have been on AC for a very long time. Same as Aqua Hobby. But AC is my main one. Anyway just thought about NZ forums and found I was registered to this one. So I thought may as well pick were left of. So as some of you know from my posts I am not a fan of cycling with fish bare large tanks. :-? Be warned. Other than that I am full of American ways off fish keeping. So expect me to be odd ball around. And forgive me I do tend to stand on toes. I have 12 tanks. Mixed from Asian Boi still in progress. American boi. American Cichlid. African Cichlids Tangs only. And what ever else take my interest. Along with breeding. Other than that I am full time on a Farm. So some days I wont be around. Ohh and a big fan of Mitsubishi Diamante. Yes they are not he best car. Mine has cost $10,000.00 in gear box repairs. But that fixed and dealer forced to pay by default the car is better than any standard car with its amount of luxury. mac

    Severums

Hey, I have kept these for a while. Not that I wanted to. But a nut case just rang me up to come look at his fish and see if my fish club wants them. So went round to see them. Then he dumps them on me or he was going to place them in our local river. To which I gave him a good warning I would ring up fish and game strait away and get him fixed well and good. With that he said I need to take them. I was wanting to leave and give him a good bit of verbal abuse but his wife pleaded with me to take them. So I did. Anyway I have ended up with a breeding pair. And so have changed my tanks around not to hard to do have what is it now 12. 10 at home a 2 spread around town. And more just waiting to set up when ever. So now to get down to my questions. I have so far let them spawn. And just take the odd batch of fry. Right now I have 2 fry which are 1 inch. And 3 at 1 cm. So have to get rid of these so I can get a large batch. Will place on the swap sell section. Now to the real question do they always eat their own fry? I have heard that they wont after so many spawns from a young age. But from what I can find out these fish are near 6 years of age. And had many many fry. And the other ones which I got with these pair were their fry from long ago. Not that I care if they do. I happy they are. I dont want any fry at moment. Cheers, mac

Aquarest. Don't think it spelt right.
  16. Try farms. Our dairy has not the same but close to them barrles. Also try CRT PGW RD1. They may be able to help.
  17. Well not every one has read that.
  18. So just trimming and letting the plant go it's self. Hope mine dose the same. Thank you.
  19. Yes they can be quite sensitive. The bit after your question mark makes no sense. That would be nice with so many rams. Love the species.
  20. The post is directed to the author of the thread.
  21. How did you get your Lotus to get like that?
  22. Personally I would never add Rams. To any tank the has been fiddled with. Unless the gravel was unchanged. mac
  23. Once time kicks in it will look great. For me I would do a more reasonable size tank like your with fish to start it off in the cycle. But smaller I would fish less in sylent cycle. mac
  24. Very nice tank. One of the most amazing nanos I have seen. Well done. mac
  25. Hey guys, I am wondering waht tips I can get for A keeping them B catching them. For me Common bullies seem to be the most common. South Canterbury rivers lakes ect. Also how large a tank? Cheers, mac
