    hey everyone

Yes a slight resurrection of a old post. Yes the club is running quite strong. I have only managed to join them after about 4-5 moths of constantly asking, emails form a manager friend of mine, to try and get them to answer me about joining. mac

    hey everyone

Hi, That is funny. I am in the fish club of Timaru. It is still active. I will be setting up as a fish breeder by next year. In the mean time Smax if you would like to contact me and ask questions about your fish. PM me on http://www.google.co.nz/url?q=http://www.aquahobby.com/age_of_aquariums.php&sa=X&oi=smap&resnum=1&ct=result&cd=1&usg=AFQjCNH5G5sLHiDG-2BYp13kYqXhApODHg My use name is mac. mac
  3. Hi, I have not read all the post yet. But I will write this out first, then add more if needed. Now for starters Clown Loaches are a schooling fish. They like to be in a group of around 5+. Also they like places to hide. And they like a reasonable currant. Plus they also like a higher temperature. Now their should be no problems with the raising of temp with the fish you have. But one thing once you get the Loaches to stay alive for a year or two you will need to remove them from your 50 gallon tank into a 100 gallon tank. mac
  4. These fish can grow large and can be very destructive from time to time. And another thing these fish are not really go tank mates with angel fish. Because angel fish like live plants, while oscars tend to destroy most to all live plants. What is the latin name for these fish. These fish can breed fast, and will become a very disastrous problem. And these fish live in a higher pH than most of your fish you want to keep. Your tank will have to be quite large, and will fit into a 50 gallon if you only have 2 or 4. But I would keep 8 Angels in 100 + gallon tank. And it would want to be large if you have mostly males. If it is a come pleco you will want a tank around or over 100 gallons. These fish can be quite grumpy. And from a lot of research a lot of people recommend a tank of around 2000lts. Also these fish have a different pH to most of the other fish you want to keep. I personally would think about what fish you like the most. Then give us a list of their names and we can tell you if they are compatible in water parameters or not. mac
  5. Hi, I have Rocket- Pencil Fish. They are a very easy to look after fish. Hardy, fun looking, and entertain fish. Mine get Brine Shrimp, May-Flies, and Flake foods. mac

    Useful Fish...

Hi, Cleaner fish. I see that a lot of people here that certain fish eat certain things. But that dose not mean we should only use these fish for that purpose. All fish will eat things around the tank. When they are swimming they are foraging for food. So it is kind of hard to say for show what they pacifically eat. I have seen my BN's eat flakes frozen food, fish fry ect. The same with my Guppies. Sometimes they will eat junk that accumulates in the Java Moss the move on to more interesting food. The same with Loaches. They do eat snails. But that is not all. They eat all sorts of think that they can root out of the ground. In their natural environments they would be busy eat, fresh water lice, fish eggs depending on the seasons, dead fish, decaying plant mater ect. Now this might sound like a lot of educated rubbish. Well this is true rubbish, which brings me back to the topic. All fish can be used in a tank to help clean things up. But that dose not give us a right to just use the fish. Alway feed them their appropriate foods and food supplements. mac
  8. Hi, I have had Kulie Loaches over a year and never had any problems with these wonderfully in your face active fish. I have never seen them hurt any-thing. I have read that the Wipe-Tails can be very sensitive to change. mac
  9. Hi, Are you joking 800ml. I would not keep any tropical fish in a tank that size. It would be more than cruelty to the fish. I would just turn it into a Planted tank with just plants. mac
  10. Yes plants are mega important. But it all depends on whether he wants a bio-type tan or not. Or just a simple tank with plants and fish. I find that a tank that is medianly planted and stocked with a plan and theme looks much better just a glass box with water gravel fish and plants. mac
  11. Right so it is defiantly a 250lt tank. Okay you could keep quite a lot of fish in that. I would think about what you want to do. You might want a Asian theme tank with Asian fish only. Or a South American Bio-type. It all depends on what type of fish you want. Also you might just want a lot of colorful fish, or a natural looking tank with fish. mac
  12. Hi, Are you absolutely shaw you have the right measurements? mac
  13. Hi, Right so it is a 38lt tank. You could really make a nice Female Beta planted Asian theme tank with it. And by having Female Betas you will also have a colorful looking tank. Just be carful about choosing the Female Betas. Alway watch them to find the most quietist natured ones. mac
  14. Hi, With a tank that large, I would suggest getting large groups of Congo Tetras, Corys, Hatchet Fish. Now for the Neons I would up the school to around 20. That way they will show of the relatively dull looking Congo Tetras. Which i would get around 10. As for Corys I always love Panda Corys, Emerald Corys. Other than that I would normally recommend Rainbow fish. But the only problem is your tank is not really that long for them to swim in. I would suggest a tank over 3ft, 36inches. But you could get the Dwarf Neon Rainbow fish. And you would be able to have a large group of these active colorful fish. mac

    Panda corys

Hi, I would not use a 28lt tank to breed Panda Corys in. Yes they are pretty small for a Cory, but the tank is still quite small for these relatively active cat-fish. I would have a tank of 10 gallons or more for breeding these wonderful fish. mac
  16. Hi, With your Clown Loaches be carful you dont stunt them in the 200lt tank. How large will the tank be that they are going to be moved into. I would recommend 100+ gallons. mac
  17. Hi, Thank you all for the welcomes. I am very impressed. The third forum, whose members write with proper sentences. Thumbs up. Cheers and I already feel at home. See you all around, mac
