  1. +1, and same goes for the yellows too. I think you'll have better success keeping the yellows in softer warmer water than you will keeping the clowns in cooler water.
  2. They're actually Central American, not South, and most CA cichlids have water that is closer to that of the rift lakes than their Amazonian cousins, so hard water won't be a problem for the jag or JD. IME jags tend to be a bit aggro, but if they have a spot to call their own they'll defend it but won't cause too much other trouble. Festae/red terror on the other hand, an 800L tank wasn't big enough to keep my male from killing his mate. After that he was intolerant of any other tankmates, so you might have trouble keeping one with something more mild like fronts.
  3. Do a water change, and the temp is a bit on the cold side for CLs. Find out what the hardness/mineral content of the water is as clowns like it soft, warm and fast moving. Having only two isn't really ideal either, but adding new fish at this stage isn't a good idea.
  4. 22 metres is a big verandah!! Why the stepped down levels?
  5. Yeah lemons are certainly good bang-for-buck, they seem to school really well when given a bit of space too.
  6. Whats your water like? Temp? pH? GH/KH? TDS?
  7. The curve doesn't matter, as long as there is no gaps underneath it.
  8. It doesn't sit quite straight, the Poret is 500mm wide and the tank is 484mm internally which helps hold it in place, but also puts a bit of a curve in it. I could probably trim it down a little given the vertical supports though.

  10. Good idea! I think it might be even better if I put it under the middle of where each foam sheet will go so it can push down onto it.
  11. Yeah I'm wondering about the seal across the bottom and how much water will be able to get under there, I think I'll just have to push it down had and hope for the best!
  12. Not mucking about, Poret foam arrived today!! I think I under-estimated the space needed to get the big sheets in and out, I think six sheets will be too squashed and too awkward to remove for cleaning. I could probably add one more in the last compartment, but will give it a go as-is for now.
  13. Could be a worth while investment getting a 2-10K litre tank to catch the rainwater off your garage roof?
  14. Cheers! Yep, it's plumbed through the wall like last time.
  15. Sweet, that should hopefully be about when I'm ready to start heating!
  16. Cool, when can I pick up my temp controller!?
  17. Cheers!! I've made space for up to six 5cm sheets, and could probably squeeze a couple more in if needed. I'll start out with one 10ppi, two 20ppi and one 30ppi and see how that goes.
  18. I wish!! It's about 2200 litres all up, not dollars. As for price, you're out by about a factor of three. Put it this way, it still seems like a cheap hobby compared to buying a boat to go fishing in....
  19. Yeah even I was impressed with it, given that I gave him a fairly rough MSPaint drawing with the measurements, it's turned out perfect. I ordered the Poret for it tonight, should be here by the end of the week, at this stage it's looking like the hold up will be an adapter for the pump to fit the 40mm plumbing that had to be ordered off Amazon.com (and because it only cost US$2.99 I had to order an Aqualog book to make it worth while!).
  20. Got the sump today, more awesome work from Greg!
  21. Looks like suttonorum/cochliodon, where did you find that?! It would look good in my tank too... [hint hint!]

    Sump things

I like the idea of having plants in the sump, pothos/devils ivy seems to be the one to go for for nitrate removal but I haven't seen it for sale over here.
