Nope. BTW I want a Latin name too, not just a common name! *edit* I just looked up Protopterus (african lungfish) on Wiki and found out that P. aethiopicus has the largest known Genome of any animal on earth. Interesting. :lol:

Again, they come from the Americas, the fish I'm thinking of comes from Africa. More specifically Senegal, Gambia, and parts of Eastern Africa. It has also been successfully introduced into other parts of Africa.

They get 8-10' long and come from America. It is a 'primitive fish' though...

No. It does have an organ for breathing air [another clue!] but I'm not sure how well or how long it would survive out of water.

Not a cichlid. It could fit in an envelope if the envelope was large enough, and you chopped the fish up small enough.

Thanks, I just tried it and it works! I still maintain that for a site as big as TradeMe (and with an income as large!) their search engine is rubbish.

They don't really 'lose their colour' as such, but the bars begin to separate and get lighter in the middle, as you can see here; They also will "grey out" during fights over their pecking order or to show dominance.

No, it is utterly useless. I have a huge list of saved searches, simply because I have to have "clown loaches" and "clown loach", "tortoise" and "tortoises" etc.

Me too! My largerst is probably a solid 7", seems to have had a growth spurt recently. All mine eat Hikari cichlid gold pellets off the surface too. When they're hungry they'll swim around in a frenzy clicking at the surface scoffing down pellets, sometimes the cichids have a hard time getting them!!

200L is a bit on the small side for clowns, are you growing them up to go in your big tank? In a 4' tank (which should be minimum size tank, even for small clowns, if you want them to grow and not get stunted) they should grow quickly (well not pacu or arowana quickly, but not as slow as people make out) to around 12-15cm and then slow down a bit. A good varied diet will help (mine love shrimp and zucchini) as will a strong current. How many have you got?

Biggest one is around 7cm, smallest about 4cm.

pH of 6 sounds ok for those fish, just acclimatise any new fish gradually. Or you could add a small amount of crushed coral to your filter.

You could try phoning a couple of the Auckland stores to see if they have any left, there were a bunch around about 6 months ago at Animates and both HFFs (Hollywood don't have any left though). Or talk to the guy at the Goldfish Bowl and see if he can get them in for you, they might be on the suppliers list still. BTW the correct name is now Gymnogeophagus balzani, not that thats what they'll be called in the shops or on the list though... :roll:
