  1. Well done! Might pop around one day and have a wee look. Keep us up to date!
  2. A jab? NOPE! ! ! ! ! I'll give the big bum a frikken laptop banged over the head! (Um, but if you hear the story on the news, IT WASN"T ME! ) And as for morsels, (is that the new word?), oh dear.... this could go on forEVER! When I get a water/air-bubble swiming tank full, (after the lotto, of course) I'll be getting as many species as are avaliable. Hang 5 for the new brown and blue type..... a little larger than previously released but well worth a visit to the fish farm. (Oh crap...... I just realised how bad that sounds! LOL!  ) (Didn't say I didn't mean it though...)
  3. Ha-ha! Humour on a Tuesday! FANTASTIC!!! (The fact that I'm listening to my flatmate seriously snoring on the couch adds to this..... 8) ) Oh, and if I do win lotto and have a swimming pool of marine with a tasty morsel to clean it all (how long would that take?) should I give you a call for a view? (Of either or...)
  4. And as African says, go easy. Too much egg can spoil the water. Just a pinch (or less) will do!
  5. For the first umpteen times, I either removed the fry or the adults from the tank.... with not success. When leaving the keyholes with the babies and removing all other fish, the breed level was (I think) 100p/c. The keyholes were amazingly looked after by the parents. 6 of them are still in the tank (I managed to get rid of 100 or so - luckily!) but the adults are breeding again so all hell is letting loose..... Make sure you only have enough babies that you need or can pass on :-? (I learnt the hard way!) I have been shining a torch on the acaras (as there is no light in the 28L tank where I put them..) and watch for a few minutes. As the egg is so light comparitively, you can see the babies either spit or swallow. As they had only had sinking algae tablets before coming here, they were a little dubious at first but it didn't take long before eating. Tell me, are you boiling an egg? I thouroughly encourage the use! In fact, all of my larger fish LOVE the stuff but of course, it isn't mooshed up so fine. Do it! Save the fish! (Oh, and do the small water changes too!) :bounce:
  6. Aaaaahh.... marine...... I'll get there oneday. COME ONE LOTTO  (Oh, and a tasty morsel to clean it....   8) :bounce: )
  7. Yeah. I've thought about cich-kebabs but apart from dreaming about it, it's never happened....
  8. Er, yes....... and the activity in there is waaaaay beyond normal.. Just got a new fish too, , a flying-fox, YAY! He seems to be handling it well, but still!... Not going thru the breeding thing again for a while... Might use the fry for fishfood. Is this mean?
  9. Yup..... the eggs are laid! Today is the second day, so tomorrow night, all hell will break loose in my tank..... DAMB! *sigh*
  10. I feel sorry for loss. Just thought I would let you know that I had to put down a cherry barb last night for (kinda) the same thing. Her tail was munted. I mean, there was a downwards pointing kink and she really had to work hard to move. I think it may be from me trying to catch another fish a while ago, and having the barb slip almost into the net but getting caught against the glass. If I broke its tail, I am extremely sorry. In my eyes though, the pain/torture (if I was the cause or not!) had been going on for long enough. I had to put the poor thing out of it's misery. Just curious, but how many people here hang onto fish hoping that they'll pull thru? How long do you wait, and when do you say, "enough's enough!"
  11. Try a little bit of bolied egg yolk squeezed between your fingers. Just a little bit! I have had a successful breed with keyholes using the yolk and brine shrimp and am now looking after 2-3 week old blue acaras with the yolk aswell. They love it as it's just a perfect size for their wee mouths. Once they get a little larger, try doing the same thing with some cooked roast chicken. I use the soft stuff from near the bone and rinse it with hot water before rolling it between my fingers, same as the egg. They go nuts and it gives them another type of variety. (The adults enjoy picking at a little chicken still attached to the bone - rinsed, of course.) Go boil an egg now and see how that goes. Let me know how you get on.....
  12. Okay. I'm a smoker  I've given up on a number times and will again, and again, and again....... For myself, it's a mental thing. When I went over to Oz last year, I threw out my lighter, papers, everything at the airport and went a month without. Of course, over there it was easy because I wasn't in my usual daily routine and when you walk into a shop, the ciggies aren't behind the counter and easily seen. I think I walked around for the first week going "Crap. Where are the smokes when you want one?". Getting back to NZ different. Each time I walked into a dairy, petrol-station, supermarket etc, there were the ciggies. I caved after the second week, putting it down to having a smoker in the house and 'stress'. As I said, it's a mental thing. I completely agree with having businesses, restaurants etc,. smokefree and I even have smoking ONLY outside at home. The new pictures on the packets are there as a reminder of what could happen to us smokers but in all reality, the images have already faded in my eyes and I just think "That's too bad for that person...." Don't get on my back about smoking. Everybody makes their own choices and I understand how important it is to be smoke free. Well done to everyone who has managed to give up! My father smoked for 46 years, approx 120grams a week and gave up cold turkey. There is still hope for me, but until my head is in the right place, (not an excuse!) I will keep on puffing.
  13. I'm sorry..... I looked at the first link and felt sick  I'd like to laser-dye some of those awful people!
  14. Oh no! Sorry to hear about your loss
  15. Brilliant. That'll keep me chuckling all day!
  16. LOL! ! ! Glad to know! Perhaps it is just a case of 'lets-get-it-on'. I'll keep an eye on him.......
  17. Crikey! And after a thread the other day about teaching fish to do tricks, your's just up and does one itself! Sorry about your loss. If your other danio seems okay then let it be. Otherwise, a trip to the LPS might make you feel a little better..... Good idea about the cover
  18. Wow. I guess you can't change fonts and that on the subject line, huh?
  19. Daddy keyhole seems to have developed a weird kinda twitching/tic but otherwise is fine. He'll be doing the usual 'I wanna get this breeding thing done' and then just start a crazy head jerk that'll go on for up to 5 seconds. Anyone else encountered this sort of thing? Oh, and all the other fish in the tank are fine. Have checked the water levels and all seems to be well. Mr K/H would be about 18months (?) old so I don't consider oldage to be a prob. Anyway, let me know what your thoughts are and definately what advise you have. Cheers.
  20. I tell you what, if anything happened to Princeton (my s/f) I'd be peeved! I really do wish you well. Let us know how it turns out...... :-?
  21. Aaaahhhh. A friend from the UK.... Glad to have you onboard! Er, and as everyone seems to say...... WELCOME!
  22. Oh-oh. That doesn't sound good..... May i suggest you get your hospital back asap? I'm not an expert but what ever your betta has, I wouldn't want it spreading..... I've tried Malkon in the past and it's helped my fish but your (or Sposh's) issue seems a hell of alot worse. Someone here will be able to give you better advice Good luck! ! ! :-?
  23. No can do, bud. Haven't set up for photos here and (yawn) won't be doing it tonight. Will get around to it eventually. I'll find out some more information and hopefully have a photo to add at the same time.
  24. Semi large. I'm guessing 15cm leaves but I could be wrong there. Kinda looked a bit like a skinny sword plant but I'm afraid I can't tell a hell of a lot more from looking at mine. I know for a fact that my fish haven't nibbled the leaves so that's a good sign. Should be a nice feature when it grows ALOT larger and finally flowers. Would love to know what the flowers will look like. Hmmm. Now I want to find out more!
  25. Saw one the other day that had just finished flowering. Can't remember the name of it, but could find out if you really want. This particular plant puts out large seeds which then sprout. I was lucky enough to be given 2 of these but they only have 3 leaves each at the moment and 'cos they're plants, don't seem to do much Sorry I couldn't be much help. Let me know if you want the name of the plant and I'll see if I can find it out for you.
