How Do i breed them> I have them in a 30cm cube tank with a power filter, mops, bog wood??? I know that you need a container of peat how big should it be? Should it be filled to the top. Any pics would be appreciated. How dry should the peat be after spawning?

How do I breed the Nothobranchius rachovii I have a pair in a 30cube with a power filter and temp is around 27. I have two spawning mops, cover for the female and a large peice of wood. Water is a deep musky brown from the wood and peat.

Can Bristlenose plecos be kept and breed in 30cm cubes. Dont see why not aslong as the water is clean and they are healthy

well this is a differnt tank and a completly different bio load. Look Dixon I dont think this will work out, not only will your discus grow to big for your tank they will pair of and you will have fights on your hands.

I never said that the filter turn over rate wasnt good enough, I am just saying the 404 does not have a capicity to hold enough bio media to support the load of fish he wants. If he is planning to spend $500 on equipment then I am sorry I just dont think it will work, prove me wrong.

i disagree. 4x per hour may be fine for a tank that size but with a bio load that he wants to have it wont. Have you ever kept discus before, one day they are fine another they are dead. If you have to much cooper in your water you can kill them. I am 100% sure this will end in tears.

what about a pair of clowns, i like them. I wanted to go full out with a fowler but dont have the $$$ at present. I would love a tank with SH but would be happy with a pair of clowns ATM until i get some exp in keeping them???

Lets put it this way... Hatchets or Pencils - Low bio Tetras - Low bio Discus - Medium bio Cory - Low to Medium bio Whips - Low bio GBA - High bio (they are messy) Now throw those fish into a 312 liter tank with a 404 running as a filtrations = Death Discus are very tricky to look after, some recomend DAILY 50% water changes! you have a huge BIO load and not nearly enough filtration. If you want to keep these fish rethink your filtration. If its brand new ask the shop if they will swap it for two other filter with cash there way. Sorry but it just simply wont work. I have kept discus and they are ALLOT of work and they need lots of food which in turn adds more of a bio load. This could be a very exp mistake.

I have some really good plant bulbs brand new if your interested PM me. Also id say you would need a bigger filtration unit. Mayby two of the 303 would be good. You have a big bio load and it would be a big loss if you lost 6 discus. I would run two canister filters packed with bio media and sponge. Weekly 50% water changes would be a must.

I want to start a marine tank with some sort of seahorse specie but not the Kuda or the PB. I would love something like a... Brazillian Seahorse Tiger Tail Seahorse Dwarf Seahorse I know that these are hardly or never imported, what Importer should i approach to mayby import these for me???

No it won work. The clowns need to be kept in larger gorups or they get kranky. 1M BN per tank, unless 4ft plus Angels will get destroyed by that water flow The Pleco is to big already and will place a BIG bio load on the filter.

I want to do the whole MAF thing when I am older (currently 16) I am wanting to learn the way it works in depth so I can ultimatly work towards my dream of allowing importation of ceratin reptiles into the country. Call me mad but its something I want to have a go at. I adore reptiles and I am wating for a reply about the Leopards.

I don’t think because of this tread that MAF is going to be banning more species, if MAF want to ban a specie they have to go through a VERY long process unless it is a immediate risk. I have had a chat to IMER about the reptiles and the importing side of things, I bring up the Iguana situation and they told me this. They only iguanas on record of entering the country where sent to zoos and public gardens and a total of three import documents can be located. They where NEVER cleared to be released into the pet trade. If they did get released into the pet trade they would be considered a illegal specie and would be dealt with accordingly. I feel that MAF slack action on the situation was appalling to say the least, they should of pounced before people gave up $5K plus! The animals shouldn’t of been destroyed but placed in a holding cell allowing public members to complete what is called 'quick release' form where IMER decided weather a new organism is suitable to be released. I would like to know why KIM wasn’t made an example; MAF should have been all over her and all through her reptile stock to check if there where new organism or illegal and potential bio hazards, but they didn’t. MAF need to re-think ALL of their importing and exporting procedures and get their inspectors up to scratch so they know their desired area inside out.

I know there is a ban but their are still wholesalers that have them, I know that they are on all the export lists. They havebeen for years but why havnt they ever been imported?

Well Hypostomus Plecostomus to means any catfish is the hypostomus family. Then how come none of the hypans are imported except for the queens?

so they have a virus, fair enough then. They should be destroyed but KIM should of been prosicuted.
