  1. I have an eheim pro 2 filter that has a lot of problem trying to start. It doesn't shut itself down or anything, but everytime I take it apart to clean out the canister, it wouldn't start, I get a humming noise coming from the pump, nothing more, if I take the impeller apart and put it back again, then it may start, may not. Anyone else had similar problem ? I don't see any blockages in the impeller, only thing I can think of is a busted motor ?
  2. The wool is actually pretty beat up by the time I have to change the thing lol. I am thinking of just keeping the tray and add carbon and wool though to save money. Do you think the stuff they say in instructions like "use authentic enheim filter pads for maximum filter performance" is just marking ploy ?
  3. I too am starting to find enheim expensive. I have an aquaone 620T at the moment and all I have to change is the filter wool carbon pad every 3 months and that only costs $20. I think maybe you don't even need to replace enheim ones that often, they just scare you into buying more consumables by making things sound worse than they are ?
  4. Wow, after reading throuh the instructions, my filter was actually missing the white sponge for mechanical filter... Sometimes you gotta becareful when buying new tank setups I guess, I put in some ordinary sponges in it as substitute for now and changed all of the water in the tank. It is still murky but at least I can see the fishes swimming in it. Already ordered parts so hope will get it working soon.
  5. Yap, all setup and such in 3 and half hours after dismantling it.
  6. It's an old filter, dunno when it was last cleaned but I am sure it has tons of beneficial bacteria in it at the moment.
  7. unfrotunately the fishes are in there as we couldn't get all of them out when we move the tank. We already took out all the plants prior to moving as well. Ok, I will give it a change of water tonight, and I will use plenty of stuff like cycle and stuff like locks up ammonia to help with the new process. Any other chemicals I could use to help the process ? BTW anyone got a temporary accomodation for my tiger barbs and jewel cichlid in Tauranga while I am getting it setup ? I had to take them out of my tank cause they would kill the guppies I just got. They are now living in a chilly bin with many water changes wrapped up in blanket to keep warm.
  8. Ok, so I will wait until weekend and if no change I will just do 25% water changes everyday ? I was told it's normal when you move an aquarium and takes time to settle. it's a 300L tank and I got one of these eheim pro 2 external filters
  9. Hi guys, I've just acquired a new tank with gravel etc in it, and the water is now completely murky from all the stuff that was in the gravel. I was told it could take up to 2 days for all the particles to fall down, and was advised not to siphon the water out, but after 12 hours it changed very little. Does anyone know if I am suppose to turn off the filter and pump circulation to allow the fine particles to drop down faster ? Thank you.
  10. Hmm, so they arent official aquaone light bulbs ? do you happen to have the model number and maker of the light tube I can bring to the store ?
  11. Made some calls this morning, looks like the smallest RO filter unit I can find is one that does 60L or 90L a day and will cost around $650+gst Of course the upside is that this thing filters your home water so you can have clean drinking water too !! if you are into that sort of thing
  12. oh wow, that sounds very promising ! did you get the 24W version of this lot ? http://www.aquarium-parts.co.uk/acatalo ... Tubes.html
  13. 300L+, looking at several second hand tanks at the moment hope can get something cheap.
  14. I guess another option is to just buy those bottled water from warehouse. and add them to good seawater to get the right mix (if you got a boat and can go somewhere the water has no pollution ?)
  15. Hey guys, looking into the possibility of a marine setup now, so reading up as much as I can. Now I am not sure where to get those RO filtered water everyone uses, does everyone who keep a marine tank have one of those units ? or can I buy them water from some a supplier in Tauranga ? Thanks.
  16. hmmmm that's what I was afraid of, so with these aquaone systems, you can't actually get more WPG without putting in a new lighting system yourself. Most of them seen to have very low WPG standards. My light tubes are just standard with the new set, dunno what K, but it says red/white on the bulb. Can you even grow marine coral or light demanding plants with these tanks ? I know some plants and corals can grow in low light conditions, but that decreases what you can do with the tank by quite abit.
  17. Hi, I am wondering if it's possible to use different light tubes than what came with the aquaone systems ? I heard something along the line of it's not the same as conventional light bulbs and not adviced to use higher than what came with it ? Ie: if my system came with 2x 18W compact, can I use a higher wattage ? and anyone know where to get higher wattage tubes for aquaone AR620T ?
  18. Heya, thanks for the advice. I don't want to get any stronger lighting cause it will cost me about $100 for a stronger aquaone lighting from local pet shop, and if that's the case I'd rather save that money for a bigger tank than to outfit a tank I am gonna outgrow in half a year. I setup the lighting cause I read somewhere (possibly someone on this board), that continous light source encourages growth of algae but if there's a break in between the light period algae won't be able to survive. I thought about PMDD, but my tank already has 10ppm Nitrate level on the weekly tests, so adding more isn't good right ? that's why I am only adding Potassium Chloride for the potassium, not adding anything else.
  19. The water is about 26-27 degrees I think, I dont have a thermometer just going by what I set the heater to. I have begun adding the flourish type of liquid fertiliser since beginning of May. I do have quite abit of algae problem (it would cover the entire front tank glass if I don't touch it for 3 weeks), so I assume I have more than enough fertilisers. The plants aren't exactly looking healthy either I think. A lot of yellowing and some black spots. I also add some home made potassium solution (potassium chloride) as extra to help the plants. I try not to use lighting excessively after I read about algae, I turn it on for 8 hours a day in a 4 hour- 2 hour break- 4 hour schedule. How long does it usually take for a healthy plant to grow from small stage to the top of the tank ?
  20. Something relaly low, I think 36W total. There was a display unit of 620T in HFF, which have plants that are in great shape, I asked them if they used any extra lighting apart from what came with the aquarium they said no.
  21. Hi all. I got a 130L AR620T tank 9 months ago, but for some reason the plants aren't doing as well as I thought they should, especially the ones down below. From the beginning I've been using the fertiliser balls, and plants are still very small, I've just recently started using Flourish liquid fertiliser and a small CO2 system from the beginning of May, the difference is almost insignificant though, but then I dont know how fast plants are suppose to grow ? However, one of my plant is doing very well, I dunno what it's called but it looks like spring onion. Getting new light fittings is kinda out of the question because well... I'd prefer to spend the money on a new bigger tank than to modify the existing small tank. I read some parts of your forum and some of you guys seen to be using flourish excel, is that necessary even with a CO2 system ? Thanks for any suggestion
  22. Cool, you got tiger barbs with angels I always wondered if that'll work since angels have long fins but they are aggressive so barbs might not bother them.
  23. Hey Leviathan nice tank, is that yours ? I want to know did you grow plants that nice with the original light tubes that was in it. With the original light tubes I calculate I'd get no more than 0.9 WPG. I think that's the reason my plants aren't doing too well. I know I could get some fittings and lighttubes etc, but I kinda dont want to spend too much money on it cause I am looking forward to getting a big tank soon, and I'd rather save up money for that and make that one proper. My jewel cichlid is new to the tank, I will see what will happen, as I understand some guide says they will be very territorial during spawning seasons, it's still quite young right now. I tried to introduce another jewel cause I thought it would make this one happy but it just wont work, I wonder how they get to have 2 of those in a fishtank in pet shops without problem. From experience it's almost as if introducing only 2 fishes of the same kind is usually not a good idea unlses the fishes are very peaceful. I understand the oxygenation part of the aquarium, but none of my fishes are gasping for breath, so that should be ok right ? Plus all the plants in the aquarium produces oxygens anyway. I think if anything I am over oxygenating, because I used to fill my tank up lower than the top of the outlet which means a lot of water disturbance at the surface I am thinking of making a DYI CO2 system though as described in some of the guides.
  24. I thought even though it's tall as long as you choose how your fishes populate the strat in your tank it'll be ok ?
