  1. Geeze this got me all confused now, when I search on net for symptom white spot on fish fins I get all sorts of results about the disease white spot, and seeing how one of my gold severum is having very poor appetite, it doesnt eat anything except the bottom feeder pallets, I thought it's white spot forr sure. Here's another shot of the green severum I hope it's clearer.
  2. I already put some tonic salt in yesterday at the recommended dosage. I was gonna leave it at that actually but I read up on some posts about how tonic salt didn't work, and I really wanted to reduce fish death asap so I went for the white spot cure. Now come to think of it, when I bought the baby oscar 3 weeks ago, it had a white spot on one of its side fin, I didn't think too much of it then, but it has disappeared ! And now all my severums have white dots which I think were never there. I was thinking of taking the bristlenose out of the medicated tank right now into another community tank but I am afraid it might bring white spot with it to the other tank.
  3. I went to a local bunnings to look at some balasts etc, but I think unless you know exactly what you need, and ask them to get it for you otherwise they will just tell you to goto an aquarium ? I went to bunnings to ask about remote balasts and some aquarium lighting they just told me to goto an aquarium when I told them it's for a fishtank. The fluorescent lights I see there are all fairly low wattage.
  4. Yap, the temperature is going up steadily now, 26.8 at the moment, and I got gas heater turned on in that room, as well as a cover over the fish tank. If the spots are still not falling off by tomorrow should I just treat it as a mistaken disease and put the carbon filter back in to remove med ?
  5. The green severum has specks of white dots all over its fins, so I thought it's white spot, I also noticed white spots on fishes that never had them (I think), but the strange thing is those white spots never moved, even if without cure they suppose to fall off right ?
  6. Here are the pictures I hope they are clear enough All the white spots are located at the clear fin parts of fishes, the green severum has a lot more white spots on its side fins but it's kinda hard to take pictures of those. The medication I got is called "Wunder whitespot cure" it contains 0.2% malachite green, 0.025% acriflavine, 0.02% quinine
  7. Something just suddenly came to me, I hope this is white spot, as I've seen the same white spot on this particular fish for awhile now (about a week now), and it hasnt' moved. From what I understand it's suppose to fall off and reinfect possibly in other locations and other fishes ? I did notice that a few other severums did not have white spots before but now has them on their fins etc, I will try post some pictures.
  8. Wow that is a good looking fish, I thought about getting some clown loaches for my 130L tank awhile back but I am glade I didn't they wouldn't have fitted in that tiny tank
  9. I started noticing some white spots on the newly bought gold and green severums about a week ago, but the rest of the fishes seen to be fine ! I didn't think much of it at first but now I think those are white spots ! I went bought a bottle of white spot cure and on the instruction it said apply 1ml per 20L of aquarium on first day. I measured out the volume of water (excluding gravel) to be about 200L, and thinking I want to try be gentle on the bristlenose in the tank, I put in 7.5ml of the stuff, and the water turned green. Now the sad thing is I can start seeing some of my smaller fishes like barbs are twitching in the tank, I tried to turn up my temp to 28 degrees but it doesn't seen to go past 26 on the digital thermometer even though I cranked the setting right up possibly cause of cold weather ? (it's a heater in the ehiem filter) Is there anything else I could do ? and will the green tint of the water disappear once I put in the carbon filter or will I need to do huge water changes after the disease is cured ?

    Stress!

One day I had to put some guppies in my little tank with some golden tiger barbs, which at first I thought they were quite timid, boy was I wrong, they are timid but only compared to normal tiger barbs ! Anyway the barbs started chasing all the guppies, and I thought my guppies were all gonna die, I dropped some food in the tank, the barbs quickly ate them and all calmed down. I guess maybe they were hungry or something.
  11. My dad is really into fishes now too, but sadly I am the only one who clean all the tanks, he just want to watch them and get big fish while I have to do all the research and tell him yes or no

    Severums

I got 2 gold ones and 1 green one (which at the moment looks black), most green ones I've seen have very faded green color, wonder if they get paler as they get bigger.
  13. Ok bought all those fishes except convict, hope it goes well !
  14. 300L tank here. 1222 x 640 x 400. I am not exactly sure on how fast fishes grow, but my jewel cichlid didn't grow an inch in the last 3 months while inside a 130L aquarium. So if it takes oscars 3 years to get to full size then I might have gotten extra tanks then.
  15. Can I put in my tank 1 x oscar 3 x diff colored severums 1 x jewel cichlid 1 x convict ?
  16. Oh cool, I read Jags are one of the nastier cichlids, so if they are ok with severums in that size tank, might be ok for me too.
  17. Wagh, 300L for the texas cichlid itself alone ! ok, crossing it off my list will the others be ok ? I thought the severums might be abit big in the end too.
  18. got a 300L tank, that should be enough for those right ? Another option I consider is an oscar and jack dampsey combo in the tank.
  19. Looking for some cichlids to put in the tank, I need to check whether these ones will go well, I know they are all aggressive but they all have varying degree of aggression, so I think from what I read, theses are ok as they are not too aggressive and can hold their own against each other ? 3x Severum 2x Convict cichlid Jewel cichlid Firemouth Texas cichlid Also gonna put some tiger barbs in the tank, I know the barbs will probably get eaten eventually though (or die of natural cause), so I am prepared.
  20. Can you tape up the skimmer really tight to prevent stuff bubbling out ? lol
  21. That reminds me, I need to go get some horse clips for my hose fittings on external canister filters
  22. Heya, I've been reading up some stories of skimmers that spilled stuff onto carpet or sump pumps misbehaving and emptying water onto the carpet. Could anyone tell me how it happens and how to prevent it ? shouldnt there be some auto-off function that would stop the skimmer if it's too full ? and I was told there were some pumps that would stop if the water in the sump becomes too full ?
  23. Oh that looks awesome, thanks for the pictures !!
  24. I think the air lock thing might be the issue, I will try see if I can get it sorted out next time I do a maintenance, otherwise I'd like to call you livingart if I am not having much luck if that's ok, thanks for the help all.
  25. The o ring in my canisters were worn out and so I don't think they fit perfectly well, could that be a problem ? I didn't think it would have anything to do with the pump. The pump head should still operate (the motor and impeller running) even if not attached to the canister right ?
