Same here, they always loose colour at night, most fish do.

They were what I thought where freshwater crabs, they're alot bigger then you described. When we first got them they were around 0.5-1cm across on their shell, and light brown coloured. I thought they were just big ones because they're were heaps of tinier ones too. I did have three but they've decreased to just two , one being about 1cm across and the other is around 2cms across, but will easily cover 6cms if s/he fully spreads out, and the larger one went purple after a moult. I'm beginning to think that the purple one is a marine crab, especially considering that the stream is tidal.

Can they be kept in an aquarium? Yes Can they survive in freshwater? Yes what sort of setup would i need? All they really need is sufficient oxygen. I found this out the hard way when I had some of mine in a small tank when I was cleaning my main one out, the big ones started turning cloudy and started dying around the two hour mark. When I noticed I got some aeration in and most survived, but my freshwater crabs enjoyed the snack of dead prawns As far as I know they are also fairly susceptible to chemicals as most natives are. So defiantly no chlorine, and if possible age your water with other methods over chemical water ager. Somebody else get in here and make sure I'm right

Out of curiosity, why do they needa be snuffed?

What I meant was that I used the direct link to the image provided by imageshack, and then used img brackets around that. I do this to avoid the picture opening a page on imageshack when you click it. All the images are 640x426 but have varying file sizes. Out of the five images I was trying to post only one worked, and that one was around 265kb. The ones that failed were 258kb, 259kb, 280kb, and 312kb. The thing that was confusing me was the one that worked wasn't the smallest file size, so the rest can't have failed because they were too big, despite the limit size being 128kb. I'm bad at explaining things so it's likely that I won't have made any sense whatsoever.

I take the direct link and use image tags around that to avoid the picture being a link to imageshack. That's not the problem I was having though, the problem was some thing to do with the forum not liking the size of my images.

I doubt a koura would be happy about being jammed in there, there's barely enough room for a fish to turn around... You haven't met one of mine :roll: Also, if you put enough flow in there you could have a crack at torrentfish

I wasn't sure if this would kill him or not I would hope so , but its only been about 3 months since I got him, and he's fully grown so I would have thought that he wouldn't moult as much as to when he was growing

Tis true Mark, but his antennae look like pipe cleaners. I guess I might just leave him to it after all. but for the record its mostly black beard algae on his nippers, and some redder stuff on his antennae.

My Koura has got a bit of an algae covering, are there any ways to remove it that won't harm him that will be fairly fast acting. Thanks in advance
