I'd use superglue or aquakneadit. They're definitely safe and are commonly used.

Yup, getting a lot more light is probably the most likely reason. But, bigger water changes and feeding less probably wouldn't hurt, along with cleaning the filters.

Any wood you find on a beach should be fine. I've always just rinsed any debris off and put it in the tank, put a rock on it if it floats, it will sink eventually.

There are 16,133 vnd to NZ$1. We have been millionaires while here
So the crabs, at 1.5 million dong per kilo works out at $93.00 NZ.
The lobster, at 3million dong was double that.
So, one dong is about 6/1000th of a cent. Good to know where I can buy one cheap if I ever lose mine...
I can't really see what's going on in that crab tank. Is that some kind of fabric wrapped around their claws?

I thought they came with a whole bunch of media? Just fill it up with the fluval noodles, biomax or whatever they're called? Assuming you mean African cichlid tank I'd say you'd probably want to fill up one tray with something like crushed coral or bird grit too, to try and keep the PH up.

Get rid of the carbon, it's useless anyway.

Not from the dalton's, unless it's getting into the water. But anything in the water, yes.
-
So daltons mix first and then cap it with sand, or the other way.
Dalton's first, sand on the top.

11 watts is pretty low if you want to be serious about growing plants. Should be enough to keep them alive though. River sand should be fine, over a layer of Dalton's aquatic mix. Add another light in to get it up to 20ish watts and that should be a good general setup.

cichlids is a good idea, I've seen them in Hollywood before and used to have a small tank years ago.
How big do they get in a large tank?
You know that cichlids is one of the largest families of fish, right? Saying, "How big do cichlids get?" is a bit like saying, "So, how long cars?" You're looking at 3 feet to about 3 inches.

I occasionally give mine courgettes, spinach and chicken. They seem to love chicken.

Lymphocystis, maybe?

If that's what it is, there are heaps of strains, but looks like mostly there's no treatment but it's not general fatal and usually clears up in a few months.

The Bettas and fry are almost definitely infected. You'll need to either quarantine them until long after any symptoms are gone or cull all of them and sterilize the whole tank.

I've never had my tank completely free of particles. Even with big freshly cleaned filters.

decided to test the water straight out of the tap. Our local tap water sits at 0.5 ppm ammonia! I don't have access to any other water source. Any suggestions?
Do more frequent smaller water changes, the bacteria in your tank should build up to a level to manage the ammonia and the water change won't bring the concentration up much?
Otherwise, collect rainwater.

Could try Moore Wilson's, pretty sure the Wellington one had some good sized fish bins at one point, don't remember the size though. Probably better chance just getting a glass tank made.

Hiya.
What is repashy and where do you get It?

If the heat causes a fire good luck trying to claim on the insurance.
If your lights produce enough heat to start a fire then you have faulty lights.
-
If you cover your tank you will need to have your lights off won't you? What's your room temp?
I have noticed my heaters on a lot more of late, my tank is sitting at 25.2atm - heater is on. Try cutting out as many drafts around the room as you can and make sure your lid is tight fitting to keep heat in.
Has the price of power risen a lot in Auckland - I don't pay power so have no idea of the cost of it
Why would you need to have your lights off? Leaving them off while wrapped up in a blanket like that means not only do you get the lighting, you're saving heat generated by the lights.

Yes, works fine, used for corals, plants, driftwood etc. It's not toxic.

Setup my chiller today, everything seemed to work fine! Everything turned on and I set the temperature and that was that. Chiller kicked in earlier, making all the right noises ( ) but temperature didn't drop at all! In the half hour I left it on it actually raised the temp by .5°C. This is a 1HP chiller for a <1000 litre tank (recommended for up to 2000 litres!!!)
So, leaked coolant? Something else? Anything I can do?? Or do I have to spend a fortune on a new one??
Put a thermometer in the outlet and another on the inlet. That will tell you if it's actually cooling.
Heating .5c in half an hour would be about 300 watts...Did you plug the chiller in reverse?

Looks like due to some damage from the wind this morning we're being supplied with 165volt mains.
Interesting thing is the Aquaone CF1200 is working fine, same for my jebao wavemaker. But the Fluval FX5 rattles badly, presumably because it's more sensitive to the low voltage.
