    Zero nitrates!

I definitely don't think I'd attribute it to my skimmer, I think it's an alcoholic, all it seems to do is spit foam all over itself. Within about 5 minutes of cleaning it last time foam was already squeezing out the hole in the top of the collection cup...I guess dried skimmate all over the skimmer is just as good as wet skimmate in the cup, a whole couple tablespoons...

    Zero nitrates!

Woohoo! Can probably be attributed to low bioload and either my deep sand pile(emphasis on pile, I need more sand) in my sump or my huge crop of hair algae.
  3. That's sorta like saying, "Do you really need water to keep fish, or will soggy fish food work?"
  4. What kinda catfish? There are only about 3.5 million different types.
  5. Oops, never mind, Wednesday is the Kapi Mana club night, so I can't come pick them up that night...
  6. Hey, rnb, maybe you can bring some blue mushrooms along for me, looks like buying them locally isn't going to happen...
  7. If it's just a terarrium you won't need very thick glass. 6mm would be heaps and you could probably get it for less than $100.

    Ideal Prices

    Hmmm, About what I'd be willing to pay... Yellow Tang - $100 Sixline Wrasse - $60 Clownfish - $60 Chromas - $30 Blue Tang - $100
  9. My Sebae clown for a while looked like he was hosting in a clump of red macroalgae. I even caught him a few times feeding it by grabbing food and spitting it into the seaweed.
  10. A toothpick worked great for a xenia for me. Except the nasty little bastard snotted all over the rock, my hand, the tank, every where while I was trying to get it stabbed with the toothpick and cable tied down.
  11. Pak n sav, it looks like.
  12. I'd be happy to pay retail for a lot of things, IF I had that option and a good selection becauses of the convenience. At least for the lower price things. Like if I want to go and buy a phosphate test kit for example, I'd rather just pay even an extra $10 at the LFS. Or something like an actinic PC bulb that I need, of if I'm there anyway and I see a coral or fish I like, I'd much rather buy it there than try to get it somewhere else. Unfortunately, for the most part I don't have that option.
  13. That'd be great if you could calibrate it for tests other than the intended ones. Like if you could, I dunno, put a Salifert color chart into the machine to calibrate the color-> ppm or similar. I hate hate HATE comparing colors!
  14. Funny that it's used in biological sand filters as media then. A lot of people are going to be really upset, I think...
  15. If you can't find them there are heaps of people locally that have them or buy them direct from Biosuppliers, I don't have their address here at work though.

    my new pet

It's just a bristleworm, they're harmless, good detritus cleaners. Just don't try to pat them. That's what current consensus is, everyone used to apparently thing they were bad, but that's now an obsolete opinion. Maybe it'll change in a few years, most reef information seems to be more based on fads than fact.
  17. Ah...That's the eternal question in the aquarium hobby. Any fish that's easy to breed gets to be too common to be easy to sell and any fish that's easy to sell is probably not easy to breed...
  18. I found that heaps of them filtered through the net I was using to catch the baby brine shrimp into a bucket and I ended up with a bunch of adults in a week or two without feeding them or anything.
  19. There's a lifereef skimmer on trademe at the moment, if I was in the market for a skimmr I'd definitely go for that one.
  20. Pies, I dunno if you can really use when it was running on your system for comparison because it would have been working along with your ridiculously big skimmer...

    jellybean tetras

They're GE? Cool, gimme some then.
  22. Yeah, $7 each is about normal for cardinals. $3 each would be Neons.

    Picasso Trigger

I'd love to have a nice trigger too. Maybe a niger trigger though. THey're supposed to be a little less agressive, not as nice looking though.
  24. Little round green balls...Yup, sounds like daphnia.
