  1. Eheim jager manuals can be downloaded from here: http://www.eheim.de/eheim/inhalte/index ... ist=heizer Also a youtube video showing the difference in glass quality :
  2. Anything not naturally found in water is a chemical..... Right. You mean like sinctred glass that we use to build bactria conlonies is a chemical? or the glass sides of the aquarium they're chemicals as well? Filter floss, spoge pads they're all checmicals too under this definitions Asinine. Bleach and ph buffer or nutraliser is to make the resin inert again so it can start removing and polishing the water again= INERT
  3. Depends, If his cycle is finished and all he's worried about is turbity a polisher is treating the problem. Clermec and Purigen are not chemicals either they are resins that act like carbon but are more targeted, ie they won't remove things like iron which is useful for plants. They also last a lot longer than carbon. Clear mec will last several months and purigen can be used again and again after recharging with bleech and ph buffer.
  4. If you're really worried about clarity buy some jbl clear mec or my personal favorite sechem's purigen. The latter can be recharged once it's exhusted.
  5. Noodles might be the better buy then, or the better comparision vurses substrate Pro. Thanks :bounce:
  6. Do the Sintomech/noodles breakdown as well? The Eheim substrate Pro does not break down.
  7. Does any one have any information or personal experience of either one being more effective than the other. On the box Eheim has 450 m2 effective surface area per litre. JBL has 1500 m2 effective surface area per litre. It also claims to have pores small enough to accumulate the bacteria that eat nitrates in the same way that sechem matrix does. The only review or discussion I've found is on a greek forum where one person pointed out that the 1500 m2 may not be true as it would clog up more resulting in considerably less surface area.
  8. I think they might be the first to notice water condition changes. But the natural waters in most of asia and therefore the Botia natural waters in Indonesia, India, Thailand ect is going to be low PH and acidic. They should actully prefer it very few loaches are commericaly bred and were born in such conditions.
  9. Unfortunatly, (or maybe fortune smiles upon you if you really do love the clowns), you're going to need to buy more of the little fellows. They're a social fish and need 5+ so they don't pine away or get too agressive and kill the odd one out. Pretty much the ultimate source of information for loaches http://www.loaches.com/species-index/clown-loach-chromobotia-macracanthus
  10. Eheim eccos are a budget branding. They're actully MP filters rebadged as Eheim (MP are the aquariam company that Eheim owns). Pretty much they're a waste of time inso much as you are not buying a filter actully degined/manufactured by eheim.

    blue acara's

They're found in slow areas of river basins. Things that I've found that have added to their evident enjoyment is driftwood, nooks and crannies rock work and espissly plants. If you have a male and female you can tell that they're fine as they'll start having fry in quite short order, they will care for their "children," so be aware of teh safty of tank mates if any.
  12. Neat little fellows, SAE I mean. Have one tiger lily plant they love to sit on the lower leaves/stems and just relax.
  13. I picked up two of them at the Albany Hollywood fish farm just three days ago. They had the single pair of barbels, the black line that extends all the way to the tail, and see through fins. Pretty much confirmed "SAE" although hollywood has some sort of wierd label on their tank that confuses the issue somewhat.
  14. I have a 375l tank with a current population of: 1x common pleco 7x Blue acara 8x Clown loaches 2x pearl Gourmies 2x Blue Gourmies 1x Crownbetta 2x Siamese Flying Fox It boils down to this, I want to add 4 or 6 Kuhli Loachs. If they're ok to add in how can I change the existing large gravel for the finer gravel that the Kuhli Loach will do better in, and really that I think the clowns will enjoy more. Pretty much I'm worried about my Blue Acara deciding that the Kuhli Loach would make a extra tasty snack. The eldest male blue acara tried to treat the Siamese flying foxes as a snack but has given up on that after 2 days of unsuccesful hunting and now ignores them, would prefer not to put Kuhli Loach through that or even worse having them killed by my lack of foresight. Cheers
