  1. One day I wen't into a Animates down here and I asked for a discus (for Mum) and this older lady (who was working at the time, haven't seen her since) starting going off her rocket , saying you have to be experienced with them, and didn't really want to sell it to me, she was not polite to me at all, spoke to me like I was thick, and I was like back up  (in a nice way) I breed them (a lie I know) I think I know all about them (another lie) she wen't so red  gave me $10 off. The point is, she didn't (politely) ask if I was experienced she assumed, and its the assuming thats letting them down also. Maybe they assume people know about cycling etc. I think this lady had a little knowledge, just not sure how to use it nicely.
  2. He is gorgeous I think I might plan my next holiday to your house
  3. I will have to knock on a few doors around here and see who has any Will deffinatly look at getting a strain for myslef.

    Bristlenoses

I think the size varys from each fish, I had 2 males, 2 different lines, one had huge bristles the other didn't.
  5. Oh awesome we do have them, hope this isn't a rude question, but how much do they retail for?
  6. I have one to, but I find it doesn't work unless the fly is stuck in the bars and you press the zapper for 30-60 sec, then you smell an awful burning smell.
  7. Poor Man, it doesn't look very nice.
  8. I think it could be "Aulonocara baenschi"
  9. Also if a Mods browsing, could you move this to the cichlid section
  10. http://animal-world.com/encyclo/fresh/c ... Ap18BM.jpg This is the fish I find attractive
  11. When browsing google for possible tank mates, I came across this fish "Nkhomo-Benga Peacock" is this available on NZ or does it have another name? I really like the picture google has of it, and it says it is peaceful Yes I know google some-times lies, before thats pointed out.
  12. Congrats to the club members who do help out to try and improve LFS I know a few members down here do help out at Hutt Pets, to help out.
  13. Yes Kelsta, the owners, Jane and Brian took over some-time last year I think, they are hoping to slowly improve Hutt Pets, and it will be timely process, as improvements will not be cheap. Still, no excuse for bad fish, can not ALWAYS be importers at fault. They are also including Marine sections to. Think its a bit of trying to "out-do" AnimalZ now.
  14. I agree with you paekakboyz, but surely staff have some sort of "training session" about birds, rabbits etc, I think they should with fish as well.
  15. Don't worry, I often wander on here and forget all about work.
  16. I am very tempted to work at my LFS, put all tanks into Qurantine and then start fresh. I know Hutt Pets, aren't to worried about there tank's at the moment, due to brand spankers arriving shortly. I also believe, LFS do not wan't to Qurantine tanks as this looks bad in the "average public" eyes.
  17. Also Kelsta I think Ira is just having you on! Saying that what you saw might not have even been a goldfish :-?
  18. I can only encourage (and others) to try and educate what I know to others. I don't know how many times I have corrected the Sales People at LFS (whom does not ever seem grateful) about different things, reagarding fish.
  19. Agree, but slightly dis-agree, as we all have noticed that the "under educated" (about fish) go in to pet shops with there credit cards out, now the sales person, see's a quick sale, and there goes, a tank, a heater, a filter, some neons, a pleco, a cichlid etc. The person thinks that when they go home, they set the tank up straight away, and watch there ever lasting fish, without knowing the big fish they brought ate the little fish and so on.. So yes it does pay to learn before hand. The second thing, is they hire young student's (no offence to the people who share the passion and work there) {this is my experience} who don't care, or care to learn about fish, only there booze money, and will sell you fish, having no clue what they are. So its not always the buyers fault, right?
