How often should these be pulled off and cleaned out?? My filter has been running for approx 2 months now and have noticed the hose's are quiet dirty. Can this be a problem? Or just when flow is restricted?

It's just that i'm planning on having 10 cardinal's but have 4 neon's and a rummy nose in my smaller tank which I was hoping to move in with the cardinal's. I did have 5 rummy nose and 5 neon's together and they got on well?

When talking about "school's" of say tetra's, i'e; "best in school's of at least ten", is it ok for that "school" to be made up of different type's of tetra?? I'm planning on getting a school of cardinal's or rummy nose for my new tank but have some "left over" ( :oops: ) neon's in my smaller tank and was wondering if they would be ok with my planed new fish??

my cf1000 rattle's when i've had it apart but seem's to shut up after a hour or so. Any body know how much more bio ball's are? Or an alternative to use? Mine keep floating up into the first basket everytime I place the basket back in too?! :-?

sweet! Thank's alot for that help. I think they are a very cool plant and would love to try and propergate some more. Are you saying to let the stem develop it's leaf, then wait to see if I can see a "point" develop and snip it just below this?? Cant believe how fast this stem is growing?! It's now curling around the surface of the water and has grown approx 10-15cm a day?! Think it's starting to develop it's leaf now. will keep you informed on my progress!

cool thank's. the one I have got has been VERY slow growing but all of a sudden it has had a shoot take off from the centre of the plant, growing approx 30cm in two day's?! Iknew they sent shoot's up but not that fast? Thort i remember hearing something about using these shoot's to start a new plant or something??? Might be way wrong?! Can some one confirm this??

can any body give me some info on this?? Scientific name? favoured light conditions? growth rate? How to get it to multiply? Thanks in advance

did'nt smell it sorry! :-? :lol: I had been watching it about 2 hour's earlier and it's condition had'nt appeared to have changed alot. It's eye's were missing aswell allthough the other fish may be responible for that?! I had also cut back alot on the food for about the last month?

just noticed one of my neon's had died and when I removed it from the tank I noticed it had a burst belly?! What has happened?! I had noticed it was looking very "old" the last week or so ie; lurking at the back of the tank, swollen belly and thin everywhere else ect Any help on what this is and how to avoid/treat it??

Ha ha, yeah I agree with that alan! I have got some bogwood in there. Can this alter p.h? I am also using some "bio chem" in my filter which I was told would help with the wood in regard's to tannin's ect. Am planning on doing some more test's this afternoon so will post results. Also how often would you recommend water change's considering test's (so far!) have been all ok and with a light fish load?

That's good then! Was starting to think I was testing wrong or something?! The tank is planted although these are relativly new also, and died off a bit (have pcked up again now) so was cautious of rotting leave's ect. All the fish seem to be loving there new home and if anything have picked up and are a bit more lively in there which I suppose is a good thing!? I'll just keep taking thing's slowly and keep monitoring thing's as I go. May even put some pic's up as the plant's are starting to take off now! Thanks to all for your help!

over the week i've slowly added 2 platty's, 2 bristle nose and a cory. I know that's not many fish but should i expect SOME change??

not sure if i'm doing something wrong or my result's are a good or bad thing? Question is i'm trying to cycle my new tank and so far all my nitrate, nitrite and ammonia result's have been 0ppm. Have been testing every day but nothing seem's to be changing?? p.H move's around a bit but that's about it. The tank has only had fish in it for a week so am I expecting change too soon? Tank is 80x40x70. Is it safe to add more fish?? :-?

tried to do that but put some bagged media in and was told needed to be between the two sponge's so have run out of room?

yeah was planning on doing that. While were on the topic of filter media...................... I know the bio ball's the cf1000 come's with are not the best media around, but for the immediate future is what ill be using. Problem i'm having is the ball's seem to keep rising up from the bottom?? What am i doing wrong and how can I stop this??? :oops: :-?
