  1. Eheim 2224, similar in specs to aquaone cf 1200, but 5 watt power draw versus 22 watts for the aqua one. When it is running 24/7 this must make a difference to the power bill. Plus eheim media is the best! I have a 2224 on my 200l, and it is a brilliant filter.
  2. I've found that palmers gardening centres carry both aquatic mix and propogating sand, so i'd try there first. Mitre 10 mega (palmy) carry neither while Bunnings has aquatic mix but not propogating mix. Hope this helps.
  3. Errr, are their meant to be pics Here??? :bounce:

    New Pics

Thanks Dixon1990, I take it if i have more that one ram type in a tank I run the risk of cross breeding??? I've had the german blue ram in the past, but haven't actually seen the Bolivian ram b4, certainly nothing like in skaffen's cool pics!

skaffen, I can't find info on the "butterflies" what's their full name, are they a type of Ram???
  7. Clown Loaches are a cool fish, Unfortunately your 120L tank is way too small, as clown loaches grow to a really large size. Ram's are very cool too, but can be sensitive to water conditions, so make sure your tank is cycled and has stable water parameters B4 you add any
  8. I've also had this problem, 2 males to 3 females The females started to look not so good, so I moved 1 male to another tank. Now the original Cherrys are happy, and the lone male is lonely I've got another female coming soon, then I'll do a swap around and have 1 male to 3 females in each tank, and everyone will be happy
  9. I've been lucky, I heated the water back up over several hours, I added a 2nd heater, and there have been No Losses Lithobates, Demasoni, Elec yellows and Bn's seem to cope OK with 1 week without a heater. Thou i'm not about to repeat this
  10. I just found my heater tank has been off for a whole week in my Cichlid tank, fish seem ok, but very lethargic. Am I better to heat the water fairly quickly, via water changes, or is it better to just let the water heat up gradually?
  11. I've got 5 tiger bards in with 3 mature Pearl gourami, + misc fish, and it is a happy , peaceful tank
  12. Caryl, You've had your filter for a few year's, are they easy to clean, and are they quiet. I have 2 Fluval 205's and a JBl Crystal profi 500. The Fluvals are by far and away easier to clean, and restart that the JBL, so am looking for a comparable filter
  13. I saw one in Palmy for $220, but couldn't see what size tank it would suit. In a 200L tank, with 2 discus plus other fish, would it be too big? Whats the rule of thumb on Ext filter size for any given size tank?

New tank for me, 200L, this is a temp set up below, Once i get more plants (any one got some spare/ heap) I'm going to add a discus pair, and move any non discus friendly fish to another tank. Which of these fish will cause problems? Dwarf Gourami, Female Bettas Bloodfin Tetra GBA Bn

    Daltons Pumice mix

I've got Daltons Propogating Sand in my new 200l tank below, which is a mix of fine gravile and Pumice (2-4mm approx) It looks natural, and none of the pumice floats. There is also a really large piece of pumice with holes in as an ornament. My 130L community tank also has a pumice / stone mix, but a larger grade stone, and that also looks natural. It has been set up like this for 2 weeks, and the current PH reading is 6.7.
  16. I'm looking for an Ext filter for my new 200L tank. I'm now a bit poorer, so cheap is good. I'm thinking of putting a discus pair in there, so over filtration is the goal. Feedback on other lower cost filters would also be appreciated.
  17. Bunnings, $19, by the multiplug boards. That's where I got mine from.
  18. I'm also looking at this auction, I'd have thought that you'd want a higher flow rate, as a 360l tank is right on this filters limit. Esp for discus which are finiky about water quality.
  19. GBA's are about 4cm, and 3 mpnths old, while BN are mature. Gravel in photo is for sale, Daltons propogating mix will be my new substrate on top of aquatic mix. The BN's will be moving to my Cichlid tanks some time soon, to stop interbreeding
  20. I've had this tank set up for about a year, and the tank is happy and active, Male Siamese fighter is only a short term guest b4 moving to his own tank, which is being cycled at the moment. The tank is over filtered with a fluval 205, and has plenty of hidey holes. Note that dwarf gouramis have swapped tanks with the 3 Pearls. My books show Striata loach as 4" 100mm max, and pearl gourami as 5"
  21. Correction, about 130l, 85x40x40cm approx containing 6 zebra loaches 5 tiger barbs 1 Siamese fighter 3bn 4 gba 1 sae 3 Pearl gourami
  22. I'm having my first real go at a planted tank, and have rear the article " Thinking of going planted, read here..." and it was a good read. I'm redoing one of my tanks as a planted tank, using Daltons aquatic mix with propogating sand on top. How much of each should I have??? The tank is 160l, with twin t8's above, soon to be replaced with twin t5's with reflectors. Flourish excel is my fertiliser, thou someone said that PMDD is better???
  23. I've got elec yellow fry, and are feeding them microworms and finely ground up NLS. What else could i feed them?? I have some brine shrimp eggs, but cat broke my hatchery  How else could i hatch them?
  24. Double sided tape for one tank, and velcro dots for the other i've done. I put the velcro around the corner, and used elastic to reach. Removable and a tight fit
  25. I'll have some Elec Yellow Cichlids to sell soon, but yes, i am a little worried about the cost of heating tanks. i got a rather large bill, and have to be a little more rational about what i but, MTS rulz, but it can hurt the pocket too. I intend to remove a community tank, and upsize my Cichlid tank (to 6ft) so are looking at Tank, filter and power costs for it.
