  1. I have 2 plants in my tank at the moment. Should I get more? The second filter Im using to help establish my other filter is quite large so it takes up a bit of room. How many white cloud should I start off with? I still have high ammonia readings in my tank, so Im going to do another water change today before I add any fish.
  2. Im not sure why Im having so much trouble trying to cycle this tank either. I thought that maybe another species of fish other than goldfish might work better. I dont really know! Should I pick up where I left off, do another water change and get another fish?
  3. The filter is from a larger tank. It has been kindly lent to me to help establish my existing filter.
  4. Have had 2 attempts at cycling my tank with goldfish. Have a 25 litre tank, 2 filters currently running, one is an established filter from another tank. Any other fish that I could use that may be easier than goldfish? And how many should I have in my tank?
  5. Its a 25 litre tank. Has two plants and two small goldfish. I am running two filters at the moment too, one is to help kick start the cycling process
  6. and my tank is still in the process of cycling. At the moment Im doing water changes daily - or every second day coz ammonia keeps spiking. I have friends who are looking after the house, but have absolutely no idea about the cycling process, changing water etc etc.. What should I do? Should I get some ammo lock just incase? I know that most ppl dont like to use it, but will it help in this situation? I am going to get them to replace some of the water every second day, and leave detailed instructions, but they'd have no idea how to use a siphon and do it properly. So am a bit worried! Chose the right time to go away! geez!
  7. Well if they catch them, lets hope they make them pay for what they did at least!
  8. That's terrible news! How could anyone do that to poor defenseless creatures. Hope they find out who did it!
  9. Thanks for advice! I would of never of known!
  10. Well you learn something everyday.. even if its the smallest thing. I didnt realise lol (dont hit me either). I always assumed that it was better for the fish because they might stress out having new water put in etc.. Anyway cant be as bad as my ammonia problem. Luckily one of the first things I learnt was to never use detergent or anything lol!
  11. Really? I just always thought it was easier coz they get in the way in my small tank. I never touch the filter tho!
  12. small tank 25 litres. Just did a water change, about 60%, has helped. In desperation, I've actually resorted to feeding the fish outside of the tank, in the bowl I put them into while I change the water. Been feeding them sparingly too.
  13. my tank has spiked to 4.0ppm this evening! Sigh! Did a water change on Tuesday night! Still no sign of nitrite.. my fish are starting to show sign of agitation.. finding it really difficult to keep up! :-?

    I Think.

Yeah everyone on here has really good advice! Has helped me alot!!
  15. Thanks everyone! Lol my partner is rolling his eyes as I tell him this information! And then he's saying "where are you going to put it?".. good point! I'll make room! Will have to find a stand as well, dont want to spend too much money on that if I can help it! Anyone got any ideas to find good quality reasonable priced stands? Otherwise I could probably get one made, my dad is a bit of a handy man!
  16. Ive been looking at a tank that is 1220x450x450mm - 4ft... I know its not hugest of tanks but Ive never had one that big before.. Still learning, how many litres of water will that be? Will I have to check the strength of my floor to hold it? My partner is not keen at all, he thinks the power bill will go up significantly!! Can anyone give me an idea of the approximate increase in their powerbill, will have filter, heater, light etc... Once I purchase it.. I will definately need assistance on how to set it up etc.. Thanks!!
  17. Yep I have two small goldfish
  18. Yeah I've been leaving the gravel and the filter alone. Im only picking out all the floaty bits, that's it. I've been changing my water every second day, and its always risen to about 1ppm, within 48 hours, but this time it went right up to 2ppm. I'll have to observe the ammonia more closely in the next few days or so
  19. wat i mean is bigger than what i usually do, which is about 20 - 25%
  20. Oh ammonia spike, up to 2ppm within 48 hours. Should I do a big water change?
  21. The Albinos are really fascinating, Ive never seen anything like them before! I was tempted to buy one but there was a dead half eaten one in the same tank at the shop, so it put me off..
  22. Wow thats pretty amazing. Go Waiuku people! That's were I grew up
  23. about 20-25% - i only use the smallest amount anyway just incase
  24. Yeah! That's one impressive tank!
  25. So, I still need water conditioner of some sort tho right? Wat if the fish are stressed?
