  1. Thumbs up for trying - looks like a great effort from a few here!!
  2. Yes please. I'll pick the best photo's out of any double-ups + we'll use them to extend the FNZAS database as well.
  3. It's simple, - I don't have the form or have not been advised the species has been done. As most people have left it to the last minute it's impossible for me to keep the list up to date. There are about 20 species not marked off yet as they arrived yesterday but other than that we're pretty current. I know there's another 100 or so forms elsewhere, but know not what species or where they are yet. Creating your own list as a group of posts won't acheive much as you'll have to wade through a huge number of unordered species just to see if it's done. What species have you done Anthony? I'd be very interested in getting the sheets since you've done them anyway. It all helps. Send them in please...
  4. The importers are doing thier part and doing it very well... It's the hobbyist who are slacking around!!
  5. Thanks for the support Ballistic but please don't send the photo's (and CD's if your pictures are Black and White) to your club president. Send all information to me.
  6. MAF actually has nothing to do with it. They are only the agency being used by the NZ Government to collect the data required to implement the law...
  7. We have about 100 submissions. It's a pretty poor response really. I'm thankful to everyone who has participated but it would seem there are a lot of people out there who don't care whether thay have access to fish in the future or not. I have the names of everyone who has participated and if I see anyone complaining about having a poor range of species after the new list is active, don't expect a nice comment to your complaint. It would appear the message just hasn't got through... 100 species out of 4200 target species is a pretty poor response. There's just over a week left to go so everyone else who's done nothing to date, get off your butt's, take some photo's and submit them on the official form!!!!!!! http://www.fnzas.org.nz/letter/ I didn't see the News article you mention so sorry, I can't comment.
  8. The bulk of the information (like all of it) needs to be in by November 15th 2005. Being able to submit some species later isn't an excuse to do nothing now. It is intended to only add species accidentally missed or species that are currently difficult to identify.
  9. The consider yourself educated and have a look here: http://www.ermanz.govt.nz/no/no-check-banned.asp
  10. No it means, if you submit a species that already exists and it's not on the list it will be assessed for the new list. You no longer have to aquire it by other means...
  11. Your lionfish is on the banned list and just having it is illegal...
  12. This is totally incorrect. The list is stuck to by most importers. It's not worth them losing their license. Anyone bringing in species not on the list is knowingly breaking the law. Looks like you are quoting what you'd really like to happen rather than what actually happens in the majority of cases. Sure you may be able to get something if you really want it by breaking the law but isn't it better not to have to?
  13. Aha, I see blatant disreguard for the law also applies... Ok, for law abiding people, this study is for you. Please just get on with it...
  14. From this statement it seems people are unaware just what is going to happen??? Maybe a quick re-read of the information on the fish study page would help...
  15. Whether its good or not, it's the law thats been passed. It's extremely unlikely it will be changed so lets just do what we have to to protect our hobby...
  16. If it's not on the list then all the more reason to send it in!!
  17. Great, thanks Ira. Why not do your corals even though they might be common. Nobody else may have done them yet and there's only 2 weeks left to go... I expect there is a lot of 'Oh it's common, someone else will do it' going on as I've had less than 100 submissions for all species both freshwater and marine. It's not a good look so far. It would appear nobody cares about their hobby and all the time, effort and money spent on it so far... Well, I've done the fish I want to keep, - if you don't care if the fish you want isn't allowed to be imported anymore then don't complain about it in the future if you do nothing about it now. Come on people, get your a's into gear.
  18. So, 52.86% less therefore approx 47.14% of the weight in my tank or about 350kg or so... Only about 17 times the originally predicted weight and 5 times 70kg... There is a lot of gravel in my tamk though and you may choose to use less than I have. A 450L tank is going to be closer to 1000kg than 600kg. Don't muck around with these lightweight cabinets or they will pancake themselves in the fisrt little earthquake we have. Build a decent braced steel or wooden stand, - something that will take at least 1000kg (10kN) of side loading. If it can't handle this then it will collapse in a good shake.
  19. Try more like 100-150kg+ for the gravel depneding on the depth and type... My eight foot tank (2400 x 820 x 670) has 750kg of gravel in it. I know there is exactly this much as I bought 20 x 25kg bags of it and used 15 of them...
  20. Strange, I've got them in my planted tank and they're fine down to 6.0 although most of the time the tank sits at 6.5...
  21. There are only two known types of coldwater Myriophyllum in NZ and both are banned: Myriophyllum aquaticum (Parrots Feather - Watermilfoil) Myriophyllum spicatum (Eurasian Watermilfoil) If you have any type of Watermilfoil in NZ it will be one of these two and is definately banned... Go here for more info: http://www.protectnz.org.nz/downloads/n ... t_list.pdf
  22. Sorry to throw a spanner in the works but these two are on the banned list: Parrots Feather (Myriophyllum aquaticum) Alligator Weed (Althernanthera philoxeroides)
  23. Is a pH of 6.4 a problem in your tank? If the fish are happy and the pH doesn't keep dropping then why change it. Most often it's only us who wants the pH at a higher level. A pH below 7.0 is safer for your fish anyway as ammonia is ammonium and is much less toxic to the fish...
  24. How many fish and what size?
  25. How often and what % waterchange?
