After Breaking 2 Tubes on the kitchen floor :evil: i managed to set them up and the first tube stopped showing the black bars after about 2 minutes and the 2nd after 15.

Well leave the lights on for 20 minutes then Take more photos, The lights SHould Be on the WHOLE time that they have fry anyway, especially since there are other fish in the tank.

In the pictures they look like either the lights have just been turned on or are very stressed.

I have just bought a new type of ballast off trademe, Its 2x40W for 2 36W t8s. It doesnt require Starters, i got it going but there are black bars going down th light tube. Any idea why?

Well when cichlids are protecting fry you should ALways leave a light on their tank so they can see them at all times -
I wanted one but couldnt find any info on keeping them and didnt have room. Have you found them before?
