  1. put the lead weight gently around the bottom of the stalks but too tight and just let the cabomba drop into the water without actually burying it, so that the lead weight holds it down and cabomba still stand upright. Hopefully this way roots will grow and extend into the gravel.
  2. Roots are always dissolving causing plant to come afloat, I use lead weight to hold them down, I just read on an something I searched up on google it says they are easily killed by jamming into gravel or by the lead weights. I used to just put them down on gravel without any lead weights but still had to jam them down and they've always grown very well, what's wrong now? I find that with many fishes without any weights they won't stay down, but with weights they start dying. What are some alternate way to hold them down and prevent them from dying? Thanks a lot
  3. roots dissolving causing the plant to come up, could it be some chemical problem that's dissolving the roots?
  4. I use those JBL ball thingys, have quite a bit of them buried in the gravel. Occasionally I add in some liquid fertiliser. My light is only 20W flurorescent though that might not be strong enough. If I add another 15W UV light and have them on at the same time would it be better? Thanks
  5. Hi I've noticed that my cabomba are always getting uprooted because the part I bury in the gravel keeps on dissolving. First I thought it was the filter flow too strong or my goldfish and white clouds are causing it but it seems to be the roots melting away causing the plant to come up. Do they lack any nutrients? They've been doing while up until recently when this started happening. I've also bought some Malayan trumpet snails do they help at all? thanks
  6. It used to grow quite well new leaves come up quite frequently but now leaves are all leaving, only have 4 leaves remaining right now and they look like they are about to pack their bags and go any second, no new leaves are coming out. I use JBL Ball fertilisers. What's wrong? All my other plant are doing well.
  7. doesn't look that big from photo. Sword plants, blue hygrophila, cabomba are all nice looking plants, lots to choose from. I have lots of cabomba and blue hygrophila, excellent looking and fast growers.
  8. don't know how it will look though can't imagine it will look natural like a normal outdoor pond.
  9. I've had the goldfish for a few months now, about 4 month I think and they don't seem to have grown at all or very very little. I feed flake, both vegetable and general type and sometimes a tiny bit of meat, steak or pork whatever we have available, not every often though.
  10. but were always afraid my fish won't like it so never used it. But it will be alright wouldn't it?
  11. The indian fern was all eaten up but the other plants were untouched. That's might be because the indian fern is the only small leave plant and all the other I had have fairly large leaves?
  12. tank measures 80cm wide, 40cm long and 60cm tall. Filter is a pretty simple one an Eheim 2010 it can filter up to 160 Litres as it said on the box.
  13. don't know in galleons but it's a 150 litre tank with rimu lid and stand. 2 Black moors, 1 bubble eye, 1 comet and 1 fantail.
  14. I had 10 red ramshorn snails and they have destroyed all my Indian fern plants, so I had to get rid of them. Looking at those yellow apple snails, they look bright yellow and very attractive do they eat plants as well? I got those ramshorns in an attempt to control algae, it did a fair job but the sacrifice was my plants, which I wasn't prepared to make. Thanks
  15. I don't use CO2 or fertilisers only those JBL ball fertilisers, they seem to be quite powerful and plants are all doing very well.
  16. Hi I have 5 small goldfish in a quite densely planted tank of decent size, also have 10 white cloud minnows. What other fish can I add that can tolerate coldwater temperatures? Right now it's at tropical temperature anyway since it's summer but in winter it's going to be a lot colder. Thanks a lot
