  1. Another 2 are showing the same white stuff on their bodies but not too much, getting pretty frustrating now, I did a 40% water change on friday. Don't really have any idea what's wrong with the water, the only thing I can think of right now is maybe my golden algae eaters are attacking them? But they still juveniles so shouldn't be aggresive?? Also sometimes temperature can be as low as 16 degrees, but that's ok right since they are meant for cold water. Any advice at all would be appreciated. Thanks a lot
  2. he has died as well. It is just WCMMs. I have 2 golden algae eaters in the tank, I know they can get aggresive when they get older but they are juveniles. could they be causing the problem? Any chance they attacked the minnows and caused some sort of injury? Will also do water changes. Cheers
  3. Not looking good, another one I noticed also has some of the same white stuff on its body, this time I'll leave it alone and see how it goes.
  4. Sadly he has died. So he was definitely sick from something, just want to know where the white stuff came from.
  5. In the tank I have 20 minnows, 5 leoperd danios, 4 swordtails and 2 golden algae eaters, also 10 red ramshorns. lots of plants as well.
  6. I've just noticed one of my white cloud has white stuff wrapped around most of its body, wasn't swimming very well, it looked like it was going to die, so I got hold of it and very gently scrapped the white stuff off, most of it anyway it was quite hard. What could it be? Any ideas? It didn't look like it has grown on the fish as after I scrapped off one area it revealed perfectly good skin, I think it might be something in the water the fish has unfortunately swam into and got caught in it. Right now it's not looking too well, sort of floating and flipping its tail a little. Advice appreciated. Thanks PS. Also another minnow has a goldfish granule stuck in its mouth? Should I worry about that? Cheers
  7. I have spirulina tablets, is that ok? Or will they just eat algae and I don't need to actually feed them very often? Cheers
  8. Would these be ok water about 18 degrees? I have a tank with lots of white clourds, some lepoard danios right now in winter it's about 18, in summer it gets up to 24. Currently have 2 golden algae eaters but I think the water is too cold for them, so might sell them and get some borner suckers instead if 18 degrees is ok. thanks for any advice.
  9. Tank is about 140L, they are currently quite active (to me), but what you mean by active? Right now sometimes I see them just hovering and sometimes I see them swimming fast around the tank.
  10. so I will ad a heater, what about feeding though? Will they eventually find the food? I try sinking some flakes today.
  11. Hi all I sold all my goldfish in my tank and bought 4 swordtails, 5 lepoard danios and 2 golden algae eaters, plus 20 white clouds I already have. I fed them today and noticed the swordtails didn't seem to know the food was there, I crush the tropical flakes and drop them on surface of the water and the white clourds and the danios went for them but not the swordtails. How to I make sure they can eat properly? Or does it take a day or two for them to adapt? Also guys Hollywood fish farm told me swordtails are ok in coldwater, which is my current setup, normally it's around 18 degrees now and gets up to 24 degrees in summer. Lowest I've seen was 17 just once, would I need to ad a heater? Cheers for any help.
  12. Hi all I have a 140 Litre tank, with 36W lighting by 2X Arcadia Freshwater Bulbs, each 18W. It looks really bright, but is this considered high, medium or low? This will help me decide what plants I can add. Thanks
  13. Out of the new bulbs, the 20W normal fluorescent is Aqua One, the other is JBL, that's a good brand right?
  14. the 15W light I had before wasn't Aqua One it was some cheaper brand I think.
  15. I had a 20W and a 15W light, 2 seperate lights, for my 140L tank. Now I've just changed to a double tube light of the same length, 62cm. Anyway I'm using the 20W tube I already have and it comes with another 18W blue tube, so total power is now 38W, greater than before, but it doesn't turn out to be as bright. Is it because there is a blue light? Is this good or bad for plants? If bad I will buy another 20W normal tube. Thanks
  16. too many possible reasons such as too much lighting, nutrients etc... But I don't have that much lighting in my tank, 35W for 140L of water, which is actually quite low. It is brown algae that grows mostly, a few spots of green algae as well near the bottom of the tank.
  17. first of all your tank is quite small so you can't really have that many fishes, some neon tetras maybe don't know about angelfish I think they need a bigger tank. Some fish are small in pet shops but be careful a lot of them will grow very big very fast. Don't know about sand but normal gravel will be ok for planted tank, or you can add some kind of fertiliser, like the aquatic mix. Not sure about how to clean the sand but with gravel to clean it thorough you would boil it for a while, maybe the same way with sand? You filter should be ok as long as it's doing the job now, since you tank is qutie small. Lots and lots of plants you can choose from, though some have high lighting requirements so if you don't have too much lighting you should avoid those.
  18. I bought them to get rid of algae in my tank, they do a ok job of cleaning algae on the glass but never bother to climb up to the plant and eat algae on the leaves, which is what I really want them to do. I cabombas, blue hygrophilas, giant baby ears and a large sword plant. I'm thinking of re-introducing red ramshorns again, got rid of them last time because they've destroyed my indian fern plant, but didn't touch any other plants I've had. Does anyone know if they'll eat the above plants? If not then I will buy some because they eat algae off leaves quite quickly. Thanks and advices much appreciated.
  19. sounds a bit like tubefix worms. You should get rid of them immediately if they are worms, try a gravel vaccuum. How big is your tank? How often do you do a water change?
  20. I had 20W originally but added another 15W 2 weeks ago. Even when I only had 20W they started off well and deteriorated after sometime. But why would they start off well though if there wasnt enough light? Thanks.
  21. I've had 4 bunches of these, 3 stalks per bunch, they are nice looking plants but always start to die off. When I first plant them in they do really well, grows fairly quickly but after sometime the roots will starts to dissolve so do the leaves at the top, start to have breaks in them and eventually they uproot and float as the roots have all dissolved away. I have 35W of lighting in my 140L tank, 4 small goldfish, 20 white clouds and about 30 trumpet snails. thanks for any advice.
  22. about medium size actually, there are definitely larger ones that are alive and well.
  23. In my 140L tank I have 4 goldfish, all about 4-5cm long, about 30 Malayan trumpet snails which I never really see and 23 mountain minnows (well 22 now). This afternoon I found one dead, I had the tank for almost half a year now and no fatalities before this one, I added 10 minnows about 1 month ago and extra 13 about 2 weeks ago. It's not big a deal at all but still I would appreciate some advice on how it could have died to prevent more dying. Or maybe just bad luck. My goldfish are all very peaceful and get along fine with the minnows, never attempt to chase them or eat them. - I change about 30% water every 2 weeks, don't have time to do a 10-15% every week - I feed everyday, small amount of goldfish granules, goldfish flakes and 2 pinches of tropical flakes for the minnows, but they tend to eat randomly the minnows will eat goldfish flakes and vice versa. - Tank is quite densly planted, not that dense though with 5 blue hygrophilas, about 12 stalks cabombas, 3 bunches of hygrophila polysperma, 4 bunches of giant baby ears, 1 E Osiris Plant and a piece of driftwood in the middle That's how I pretty much maintain the tank, don't think I'm doing anything wrong maybe it died due to bad luck and not getting any share of food a few times in a row. Thanks and advice appreciated.
