  1. bricks? what about slate rocks? schist or something along these lines. I've seen slate rocks stacked in an aquarium which looks really good. Don't use antything like limestone because it will slowly dissolve.
  2. so what's a healthy and happy colour? so I can check on mine and see if they are happy or not. They look happy to me, dark colour with white spots.
  3. Auction number? That should NOT be be acceptable, I have sent snails twice and always package them in an ice cream or similar container with plastic bags inside and water in it, make sure the water is in constant contact with the snails so they don't dry out. Did he say he was going to send out another package? If simply not replying to emails then a negative feedback will be appropriate. Keep the injured snails in a seperate container rather than in your main fishtank, put the healthy ones in though.
  4. Lights off for a week? I would be slightly worried if the light if off for that long, maybe invest in a light timer? Don't know how much they are though.
  5. no never fed any worms, I sucked out the two I saw with a gravel cleaner, any more advice on how to get rid of them?
  6. Hi this morning I've noticed 2 small red worms in my gravel, about 1cm or less in length, very thin, they were wriggling beneath the gravel against my glass. There's a thread a few slots beneath this one, started by me and will tell you what kind of tank & fish I have and what I'm planning to add. Tried googling but couldn't find too much info, advices here would be much appreciated, how would I remove them etc? I am quite worried right now is it neccessary? There are most definitely more than the 2 I saw. Thanks
  7. sweet, in a few days I'm going to add a school of neon tetras, 2 weeks after that I plan to introduce 3 clown loaches, will be buying a cave for them as well.
  8. Hi all 3 days ago got 3 baby bristlenoses, so cute lol, anyway two days ago I bought this cave ornament for them to hide in, but problem is none of them seems to be interested in it, I've seen them swim around it a quite times but they never go in. A lot of the time they hang around the back wall of my tank and around the heater, exploring the rest of the tank quite a lot too. In my tank there's a good number of plants and a piece of driftwood. Also I put in some spirulina tablets, I've seen one of them chew at it for a while but not the others, and now they are getting eaten up my by ramshorns. Should I be worried about these two things? Or are they fine? Cheers
  9. Clown Loaches? I saw them in Jensens the other day, selling 2 for $35, don't know if that's a good price or not though it's the only place I've looked at them. Hollywood might have them for cheaper though.
  10. Hi Lana Thanks for your idea I've just tried it and it works perfectly, no noise at all, all I did was take one airline out, take off the airstone on one end and leave the airline in the cabinet still attached to the airpump. So all it's doing is pumping out air from one airline into air.
  11. Yesterday I went to pick up my 3 bristlenoses, and their setup is quite a nice one with lots large fish in an average size tank, which makes me think that all the fishes I want to get will be ok in my tank. It was a 3 foot tank, not too tall, I'm estimating about 170L, in the tank there was one massive golden algae eater (I mean MASSIVE), 2 HUGE swordtails, 2 medium sized clown loach (about 12cm), 1 big shark, a few other medium sized fish I couldn't name, lots of bristlenoses and lots and lots of bristlenose babies.
  12. Thanks for all the replies. I use an Eheim 2010 (I think), anyway it can filter up to 160L of water. I've tried my air pump with two airstones at the end and the current is creates when air bubbles rise up to the surface is too strong, all the plants are swaying slightly and I don't think my fish like it too much, will try air pump with just one outlet later. If I use only one outlet on my current airpump it's really loud. Right now temperature is about 22-23 I can bring it up to 25 for the clown loaches, they will all be ok in that temperature wouldn't they?
  13. Hi all. Thinking of getting more fishes but just want to make sure the tank can handle it. Tanks is 135L, 75cm long, 40cm wide, 50cm tall. With a good amount of plants. Currently have 16 white clouds, 4 swordtails, 5 lepoard danios, 3 bristlenose catfish. Want to add the following - 4 Swordtails (optional) - 5 Zebra danios (optional) - 20 neon tetras (much preferred) - 2 or 3 clown loach for the first 2 years when they are small (much perferred) - A few corydoras (if the above is too much than I wouldn't bother) Is all this going to overcrowd my tank? I'm trying to get fishes that swim at different levels inthe tank so they would be evenly spread out. Cheers for any advice.
  14. I have a 2.5 foot tank that's 40cm wide, would really love to have 3 or 4 and some corys, I woud really hate to see them not having enough space to exercise in. lol let's start a vote of yes or no... Do clown loaches, at their juvenile size and in a group of 4 or 5, need a really big tank?
  15. Just did the research again, definitely seems they need a very big tank, some say at least a 6 foot.
  16. Don't clown loaches need a very big tank? Much much bigger than 90L But than again on some website it says it only needs a minimum of 20 galleons, on other sites it says 90 galleons. Would love to know which is correct, I have a 40 galleon and would love to have some clown loach is the size permits.
  17. Cheers for that. Anyway picture is a few months old, no more goldfish, no more cabombas or polyspermas, but rest is still the same, lots of plants have grown, especially the blue hygrophilas.
  18. Sorry didn't seem to work, anyway just copy and paste the link and you should be able to see it.
  19. Here's a picture, hope it shows. http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb63/michaelqian/CopyofDSC01004.jpg
  20. Yes I have a good number of plants. Have the type of gravel in most fish shop tanks, some brown pieces, yellow, white and black. yes have a piece of driftwood, was also told that could lower the pH at the pet shop, but a lot of people have it and it looks good, so reluctant to remove it. Took pH readings yesterday afternoon, evening and this morning. How do I upload a picture? I have one of a few months back, when I still had some goldfish, but looks pretty much the same expect no longer any cabombas and plants have grown quite a bit.
  21. Nitrate and Ammonia are both 0. I usually do a 30% water change every two weeks, but for the past 4 weeks been doing 25% every week since the fish are starting to die. None have died for the past 2 weeks though.
  22. Currently the agronite is sprinkled over some areas of the gravel, filter I use is a normal internal power filter with a sponge.
  23. I can't change water until Saturday. Need 3 doses of medication at 24 hour intervals, then change the water. How would I maintain pH once I changed the water, so it doesn't change gradually with time. Thanks
  24. Hi all I had 4 white clouds dying in the last 2 weeks, so I took a water sample to Hollywood for a water test. They said my pH is too low, gave me some marble agronite (I think that's what it's called) to put in my tank, was told to put a handful for my 130L tank. They also told me to put in a dose of fungi medicine, in case that might be the cause. I tested my pH regularly and this morning, it still seems too low just above 6, they said my tap water might be slightly acidic but I tested the tap water and it was above 7. So am I doing something wrong? my pH doesn't seem to be increasing. Thanks for all advice.
  25. Your temperature it fine. Right now my swordtails and lepoard danios are also sitting ducks at 14 degrees, getting a heater tomorrow. My white clouds are probably liking it though.
