Any advice on how to cure the parasites?

An update : I have noticed gill inflammation on a few of the fish including the golden barb. I did a 30% water change the day before yesterday and they seemed better, however yesterday I again saw the flicking from the barb. No evidence of white spots as yet. Im starting to think maybe its a bacterial infection? Symptoms im seeing are Gill Inflammation Lethargy Flicking Also my partner and i have noticed that we have both had itchy hands after having our hands in the tank, would this be a sign of bacterial infection in the tank? If so what would be the best steps. To top it off the centre brace in my Rio 300 snapped last night with a loud bang causing the front of the tank to bow slightly. Its being held in place with a piece of wood with poles on the outside of the tank to prevent it from bowing. Ahh the joys. Any advice appreciated

Just wondering if most ppl add extra oxygen to there tank or just stick with their filters. I have a 300 litre tank with internal juwel filter, would this be adequate or should i look at adding an airline? Tank is newly planted and has 4 cory, 3 BN, 20 tetras, golden ballon ram, 3 spot gouramis, 2 honey gouramis, rainbow shark, 6 mollies

thanks for the advice, all the fish are looking better today, the golden barbs anus doesn't appear inflamed as it was the other day. Should i still add tonic salt as a precautionary measure, is it likely to have any adverse effects? Also i don't know if i'm being paranoid but now i'm wondering about my other tank. This tank (300L) has about 20 tetras, a rainbow shark, 2 3 spot gouramis, 2 honey gouramis, a golden ram, 3 BN, 4 corydora and about 6 mollies. this morning i saw my honey flash once and later tonight my golden ram did the same thing. i haven't seen either of them do it again, but am wondering if there could be some form of contamination from the other tank. everyone looks fine, no white spots that i can see, but i am wondering about adding tonic salt though i have heard corys don't like salt at all. Maybe i should just watch and wait? I also have 4 3 week old tiger barb fry in a hatchery and don't want to add tonic salt/white spot cure if it likely to harm them. Any thoughts?

They seem to be very happy. Always active, always wanting to eat. So id say they are ok..
-
yeah they seem to be fine. dont appear to bother each other at all.
-
its quite consistantly around 26c. Everyone else looks fine. the ones that have not been looking so good do look a bit better, so not sure if im being over reactive. Just the general behaviour has been up and down for a couple of the different barbs.

1 comet 5 fan tails 2 golden barbs 3 rosy barbs 2 tiger barbs 3 danios 1 bn have drift wood and some javafern. 180L tank with a cf1200 canister filter. I do use water conditioner ( aqua plus) but not with every water change, we are in chch so figure the water is pretty good and conditioner isnt really required? Have never used tonic salt or white spot cure in the tank, but wondered if some tonic salt might help?

No, there has been nothing.. The golden barb is looking better at the moment, its moving around and seems to ebe "normal" but the rosy barb has taken is place and now sits in the back corner near the heater not doing much. the tiger barb is still a very dark colour.. the other fish in the tank seem fine..

Hi there I wonder if anyone could help with a diagonosis for my sick golden barb. It appears lethargic and is usually head standing in the corner of the tank, also the anus of the red appears red and inflamed. Still feeding but spending most of the time in the corner. Tank is a 180 litre currently with golden barbs, tiger barbs and some goldfish. I have just performed a 30% water change and tested water quality nitrates, nitrites and ammonia are all zero. Any suggestions? A few days earlier my male tiger barb was acting peculiar, with small twitchy jerky moments and racing across the tank at high speeds. He appears better today but not 100%, previously was spawning happily with his mate. Today ive just noticed a rosy barb is doing something similar. and my tiger barb has turned a very dark colour. he was jerking around a few days ago, but seems to be more normal. Any advice, i cant see any white spots, so dont think its ich, but i did see the golden barb rub against some drift wood and the gravel once or twice, but he hasnt repeated it. Could it be velvet? not sure what to do, i have tonic salt and white spot cure on hand, but have never used either.. Thanks

Thanks for the info, i will have a look round the chch shops this weekend and see whats about. Does anyone know if electric yellow and electric blue cichlids are suitable in a community tank?
-
Hi there, Just wondering what cichlids would be suitable in a community tank. Tank is 300L, and currently only has 4 BNs and 6 Sterba corys. I want to add some colour to the tank and like the look of some of the cichlid species but have read that some cichlids aren't compatible in a community tank (ie Lake Malawi?). i have no set ideas on what i want in the tank yet so am open to all suggestions. if anyone else has any suggestions as to other brightly coloured community friendly species that might be suitable please let me know. Cheers

Also try redwood aquatics for gravel, i just set up 4ft aquarium up last week and they have large bags of dark brown gravel around 2-4mm long for $8. I thought the colour might be quite dark but after seeing it in the tank i'm happy with the colour. i put down daltons aquatic mix (from bunnings) about an inch thick first and gravel on top of that about an inch thick. Make sure you wash the gravel thoroughly first as its quite dirty. To do my 4 foot tank took 6 bags of their gravel.

Thanks for the info, the pics you had of your 6ft tank with the powerglo lights on looks like the type of colour etc that i'm after so i'll give it a shot with the marine white. Cheers

Hi there, just looking for some advice regarding lighting in my tank. I have a newly established 4 ft Juwel Rio 300L Tank. Tank was originally a marine tank and I have converted it over to a tropical tank. Last weekend I laid down some aquatic daltons mix and gravel, transferred a piece of driftwood from a previous tank and planted it. It has been running for around 4 days and i have just added 2 small bristlenoses and 3 sterbai corydora. So my question is what fluorescent lighting would be best for the plants and fish. At the moment the tank still has the marine blue and marine white tubes in it giving the tank a blueish tinge. Is it required that I change this lighting for a tropical tank or is this ok? If i change the lighting what should i change to? I'd like to avoid the yellowish colour some tubes put out as i prefer a whitish colour. Any advice appreciated

Hey Guys. Need one of these hansen fittings to block a sum hole in the bottom of my tank. Just a few questions about Them, 1. Where can they be obtained in chch? 2. In regards to silicon. How much is required,do you silicon the whole thing over? pr just around the seals? Do you use threading tape for the nuts to cap the end? do you use polu washers or the supplied rubber ones? any advice on this is welcomed. Thanks

cheers, Im planning on heading out there this afternoon to see if they can be fixed.

hey there thanks for the info. Doesn't look to be DIY i believe its all factory fitted. Not sure how to replace repair the ballast as its all plastic welded.

Hi guys, I have a juwel rio 300 set up which i bought secondhand. it has 2 twinsets of lights (4 fluoros). 1 set doesn't work at all (bulbs work as i've tested them in the second lighting system, does anyone know if the juwel multi-lux lights have an parts inside the 'electronic ballast' that can be repaired or replaced. Or does anyone have any idea as to why the lights aren't working. The juwel site lists the tank as having only one set of 2 fluoros, this tank used to be a marine so i'm guessing the previous owners upgraded it to 4 fluoros . any help appreciated

I was looking at getting cardinals and then saw the price compared to neons. is there a particular reason the price difference is so high? ie difficulty or breeding or something similar

I had this exact same problem with my CF1200 a couple of weeks ago. Seems to be a common problem as i've read several other people having this problem. In the end i had to replace the tap. I bought a tap from Redwood Aquatics here in Christchurch, price for two taps is $12. You can order from www.redwoodaquatics.co.nz. They also informed me that if they didnt have any in stock it takes a couple of days to get them ( local supplier somewhere up north) .. So you should be able to get any store to order them. They are called a "Tap Set" and you want the taps for the cf1200/1000. Make sur eyou DONT get the taps for the CF700/500 as they are smaller and wont fit.
