  1. I got an electrical RTA timedelay unit (Miniature circuit breaker sized) and have installed in into a DSE zippy box. Got an extension lead and cut it in half and ran it through the timer unit. With a simple little toggle switch, I interrupt the power to the unit for a moment which introduces the starting time delay (which is able to be set from a .1 sec to 100 hrs) after the time has elapsed it turns the item back on through some n/c contacts. I have mine set to approx 9 mins so its ample time for the food to be eaten. The extension lead has a 4 way powerboard plugged in which supplies two ar-380's. So have the pump and heater for each unit plugged in. Also handy at water change time so that i just isolate the supply to the relay and no worries about forgetting any heaters etc. Hope that was reasonably clear and if need be just PM me for more details.
  2. Wouldnt it have been easier to hang the pump rather than yourself? seems rather extreme to me :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  3. may i suggest making sure it is not sitting directly on wood as it acts like a natural amplifier. Try placing it either on the carpet or a scrap piece of carpet in the cabinet. I suspect that if you can hear it with your ear on the tank, its the vibrations being transmitted through the cabinet.
  4. I never knew BN ate the prawns either hence when he first ate it when it was on the floor, i moved it to mid tank. Will try and get a video (using a digital stills camera) if you want
  5. something else they might enjoy is PRAWNS Yes i go to the supermarket and buy 1 cooked or raw prawn, cut it into 5 and then hang a piece in the middle of the tank, this is for the guppies. Seems i neglected to tell my adult male BN as he gets onto it and swings it from side to side and fights the guppies for the territory. Really is quite a laugh to watch. On the other hand, my 4 young fry show no interest in the prawn whatsoever
  6. Penguinleo I asked the scrap metal dealer who picks up the scrap stainless/ali/MS from work if they sold it, he asked what size Next trip got a small sheet for nothing Just go to your local scrappy and they should have heaps, and I dont think its too dear to buy (couple bucks a kilo??)
  7. Well after 4 hours waiting for him to do his job Looks rather round and not oval to me
  8. Thanks for that, now just patiently waiting for "old matey" to decide to clean the front of my tank. I dont think he is as there is very little colouring extended to the bristles. His heritage and age is unknown as he came with the tank when I bought it. In 3 weeks his "whiskers" have grown from 1mm to 5mm and I noticed today, just starting to branch so i must be doing something right. And I never realised how carnivourous they were. Hung a partial uncooked prawn in the middle of the tank for my guppies to eat and he just sucked onto it and started swinging it side to side while having a great time. Was trying to avoid him eating it as he chases the guppies away and is neglecting his true calling of cleaning my rapidly greening glass
  9. Faran: sorry for hijacking your thread but you appear to be the expert how does a Golden Marble Bristlenose differ from "normal" bristlenose as your pic of your breeding male looks exactly like mine? secondly, can most BN crossbreed with other BN of the same size/family type (I wouldnt have expected so but thought i read somewhere that they would) Thirdly, If mine is a GBN, how much for a sexually mature female? (If u have any) Thanks in advance
  10. so is there going to be a meeting on the Sunday night of the Molly Hunt?
  11. Well tank has finally started clearing(ok took all of 36 hrs but...). I had given the tank a reasonable clean when i got it home and as the previous owner had just changed the water with straight tap water, i thought there would be bugger all bacteria in the tank and filter system. So it all good for now but will still do the water changes daily for the rest of the week. Thanks again for the responses
  12. You must tell me your secret to geting free ice I usually have to freeze water in my freezer, which raises it temperature which in turn causes it to use more energy, therefore still costing me money :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  13. yeah, should have mentioned it wasnt green, so looks like a bacterial bloom. It sort of looks like clouds of cigarette smoke rolling in the water flow from the filter. Did a 60% water change today, have got rid of over half the guppies, and will stop feeding them as of now (except for the free food/fry the female guppies are delivering). How long till I should expect to see a change in the water quality? a few days? a week? a month? a couple of months?
  14. I have just set up a tank and the water overnight has turned very cloudy. What could be the cause of this? The tank gets some sunlight but it was only set up in the afternoon after the sun had left that spot. The filter has been running the whole time (wasnt turned off overnight) Secondly, what is the longest that you should leave a built in biological filter without water flowing over it? Tank is an AR 380 aquaone, with a very heavy stocking level as the fish came with the tank (being remedied by a thread i have posted in the buy/swap/sell section of the forum thanks for the responses folks
  15. AND as i recently forgot about  ECPs
