Wet Pets PNorth - thats where one of my Shovelnose Cats ended up
-
I insulated the walls with Batts just like you did. I then lined the whole room with 50mm Polystyrene completely wrapped with Polyethylene plastic sheet, and once installed EVERY gap/join was tapped to seal things up. My fish room still has the dry dust on the roof and walls from when I built it - 15 years ago!!! It has never had moisture problems. To heat it I went to an electrical store and purchased one of those wall mounted thermostats and wired it into a female plug, then I plugged in a 1200W fan heater, set the thermostat to your desired temp and bingo... one heated fish room. It is very efficient and cheap to heat, the key to it all - stacks of insulation and 100% sealing ( E.G: no draughts = no heat out & no cool outside air in ). If you have any doubts then ask anyone on here who has been to my room and seen the results :dnc1:

How big does a female ice blue need to be?
OutOfAfrica replied to finemineb's topic in General Breeding
I hope she does, I have had plenty of 'first timers' hold full term. Sounds like you have been taking great care of them -
They are a beautiful fish, my original male...

I will see if I can take some decent pic's for ya sometime soon. I did submit several species way back when but I have no idea why they didn't make it to the list??? Cyprochromis Lepstoma ( Jumbo ) was one I was hoping would make the list but ...... the species I had back then, if only I knew what a sad state of affairs things would become :-( If I get these guys breeding I will spread the love like i did back then, that way they should not be lost. A lot of the desirable species and strains came from out of my fish room back in the day and they are mostly still here in NZ if you know who to talk to ;-) Cuckoo's are next on my list to get, always wanted those and I see they are about here and there now :-)
-
Yep, Placidochromis Milomo. Have had them for years, way before the new permitted list came out. Lost the parents due to a tank melt down but got some young off them.
-
So has anyone got VC10's here in NZ? If so, show us your pic's. Well they spawned earlier than expected!, just hope the female holds ( this being her first batch ). The little guy is coming along nicely.
-
Been to redwood aquatics?
-
I looked up the link you gave with the pic's and had to look into it all. After quite a while chasing things up it appears I got to the bottom of it. Have no idea were the rest have gone, not looking good for these in NZ now The only way I can help out the people who got them is to offer some Brown Haps - that is ALL I have now. The fish room is pulled down and it's all gone. I was always very careful with breeding etc too, guess thats the risk you take when they end up in someone elses tank.
-
Well,I got to the bottom of it all it would appear. The original parents were in a tank with a rouge male Blue Dolphin and it appears as though some cross breeding occurred with the first batch  The second spawning was observed by my friend and it was between the two A Cal' ( they were essentially on their own at this point ). So the second batch is OK. What a bummer, it was hard work getting them in the first place. I have no idea who got what now either. It was out of my control unfortunately, sorry people

www.axolotl.org Everything you need on this site

Axies will breed at 1 year of age. I personally have not found that breeding then early is a problem, just do not spawn them constantly and give them some time for growth between spawns. Seperating the males and females will stop breeding activity ( obviously ). Good luck with your Axies
-
That friend wasn't Andrew or Pete was it ? Pretty cool that your natives are doing the wild thing - congrats
-
Good to see you are keeping the lines going - nice specimen You never know it might be me calling you for some Africans some day
-
Hi Navarre, These guys used to be everywhere down here in ChCh but they disapperaed . I long to get my hands on them again - they are very very nice fish. I spawned them a few years back - the males get very dominant as they get older and you have to keep removing them. They produce heaps of offspring once they get going but alas I can't find any in LFS Oh well I'll keep hoping. Let me know if you find any. OOA.
-
Nimbo / tropheus - are they the comps you got off of me? Mine spawned young too - I put it down to regular ChCh ( very good quality water here ) water changes and a good diet. I wonder if the comp at butterfly creek is an original I supplied a few years back? - do you know tropheus? That tank must be looking awesome by now - wonder if the Tyran' Macros' are still going too? Anyways, the original stock from this end were very good with fantastic colouration. Be great to see that line still going OOA
-
You should have recognised that boi, I had them in with the Red Empress OOA
-
Never move the parents - only the little guys ( and not too early either ). Discus can be very tempremental creatures. Good luck. OOA.
-
Congrats - those guys are generally very good parents. The ones I had a few years back were great fish. Not real pretty but fantastic non the less. Must be that time of year, my Astatotilapia Calliptera have spawned at last and I got 71 fry OOA.
-
By "electric blues" are you refering to S Fryeri? HFF OOA
-
Anyone looking for Tropheus should call Redwood Aquatics - he has brought quite a few in. Fire Fox Pemba Duboisi Ikola I think that was what he had. Call him anyway for confirmation. OOA
-
I saw the O Lith of Tropheus and noticed that there was variation between females as well. Following are my observations: The males without the blase were quite stout in build as were many of the females. The rest of the females were a lot slimer build. As a comparison I would say the stout fish resembled a body shape like that of Stigmatochromis Modestus "Eastern" ( Ad Konnings book ) The slimer versions ressembled S Fryeri more. Just my observation of the examples present. My stock were of the slim profile with a very broad full nape male and the females were also slim. I presently have 24 young so I am looking forward to the results - fingers crossed. OOA.

Bred heaps and plenty of people had them but managed to kill them or lose interest and that sums up the average enthusiast really. What happened to the ones that everyone got who knows. If all the fish distributed were successfully cared for then we wouldn't need LFS would we? Frenchy - yep very easy to keep and spawn but then so are Convict Cichlids and they were scarce for a while , if you know what I mean I had Yellow tail and blue tail varieties. Nice fish. I have some pic's somewhere, I will try and find them for you And as some of you are aware, some stock made it to Akld so cross fingers they re-amerge sometime. BTW: I was in Akld last week - I feel sorry for you guys. The selection and quality of fish is dismal at best
-
Had / bred heaps of them a while back but an enthusiast in Akld has them now. They may pop up for sale some time but I wouldn't hold your breath. Retail lists - Not likely :-?
-
People call Africans anything to sell them - a pic would go a long way with your enquiry. Basically if its a blue Utaka then it gets taged "Electric Blue" by someone at sometime Fortunately the Mbuna seem to be spared this unfortunate tag the majority of the time. Your best bet is to hook up with someone on this forum who is local and has some knowledge of these things and you should end up with what you are after OOA
