  1. totally but from the threads about it i have seen it is a real big mission
  2. & if you go for a 3D background where is the plumbing & heater going to be if you use a canister?
  3. Chuck Norris sleeps with the light on. Not because he is scared of the dark, the dark is scared of him! anyway, stocking of this tank is really what ever you want to keep. you could keep one of those silver things that get quite long & eat mice & stuff, or those other big fish with stripes & a pointy snout that kinda look like an oversize guitar pic  but i would suggest a tropheus duboisi & another troph species with shellies, leluipi & maybe some altos. lots of rocks & some twisted val.
  4. nice pheasant, probably some ones pet gone missing.
  5. so your allowed to take 50 truck loads per day, that should be enough.
  6. HFF- from a business point of view i think you must take deposits but the non supply of fish situation will need to be confirmed, in aussie i believe they refund it if no fish is supplied. that is a risk that those importers take. Create what ever system you like & state it clearly that way everyone knows where they stand. spending many years selling i found early on that if you don't identify the target (the person with the $ & willing to buy) a lot of time & money gets wasted trying to sell to those that aren't the right target, if they are not prepared to make a deposit then they are not serious about the purchase. if a group vote for a particular fish & don't put money up you may have trouble selling them, if one person puts down a deposit on a fish that no votes for then that is a sale. If the person then decides they don't want it the deposit should not be refunded & the fish advertised for sale. When it sells you have made more for that fish for the messing around that was caused.
  7. it seems you may be missing the point. the point is not what they will cost, what the process is to get them here or bringing in a fish that is not on the list. the point is it would not be difficult for an importer to post something like the below as long as it is an approved species to be imported. It could simply be finding out what else they can buy of the same supplier they already deal with, having not seen a list the the imports get i am unsure what format they are in but i would expect they would already know what they can buy from that same supplier just like the LFS's get. all this will cost the importer is a bit of time & if he/she receives no deposits then he/she doesn't order anything in addition to what they are already bringing in. If deposits are paid for a special order then there will be no problem selling them when they get here. you cannot say it can't be done as it is common place in Aussie, if it does happen there may or may not be orders & successful supplies achieved which only trialling will prove. For very little extra work extra sales could be made which is what making $ is all about.
  8. any furniture mover should do it to
  9. yes, there are many large businesses that you order from a central supply but are billed/pay locally. there is nothing to stop this from being successful as long as suppliers want to do it. this would affect the cost of the fish & be passed onto the customer would it not? just like anything else you buy.
  10. to me if something is hybridised in the wild, that is natural selection. in a tank in our possession in wrong as there is very little natural selection, they breed with each other as there is no one else.
  11. there is no reason this would not work if the suppliers wanted it to. the lfs would simply clip the ticket & be a delivery address.
  12. my money is on "pear shaped & flooded room"
  13. i find this thread quite funny. i have been on a few international forums & NZ is the only country that does not have easy or any access to wild caught fish. our neighbouring country has many wild caught fish being imported regularly & a list as above to pick from & all we can say why it won't or shouldn't happen & if we actually had that list through a supplier & ordered something it would never arrive anyway.
  14. this is easily sorted, all they need to do is supply to a shop only. if it was me I would set it up with an agreement between the importer & LFS as a fixed mark up rate & that way they could advise of the sell price up front. If a LFS refuses then offer it to another, it's profit for nothing really. that is what happens when the supplier has more than what the store purchased, they have to be sold somewhere
  15. that may happen but i think it may not be too likely if the list from the source is current, with a list like that you must be able to find something available.
  16. I find it interesting on overseas forums they way the importers operate & use the forums to their advantage. Right now on a forum in Australia an importer has posted a list of species he has access to asking for orders & deposits for an order that will be placed this friday. here's the list, can't be too many risks when ordering fish that you have deposit for.
  17. have you heard of russian roulette?
  18. yours has a safety factor over two, your fine.
  19. hope your pussy can swim as it may get quite wet
  20. all i know is that the technical guru guy at the largest glazing co up here told me i should never use it for a fish tank as the acid silicone will eat away the laminate & then it will have the strength of an accordion.
  21. isn't it bad to use laminated glass because the acid cure silicone eats away the laminate????? it's not an issue to build a tank of those dimensions if you use the correct thickness of glass, i'm sure there must have been tanks made this size that were safe. 16mm glass or thicker will do just fine with a central brace.
  22. are you sure it's 15mm? if it is 200kg i suggest at least 6 people as that works out at around 33kg each which is a fair amount to carry any distance & manoeuvring it will be tough. I have seen seatbelts used as lifting strops or use heavy duty tie downs or similar.
  23. i'm not sure abrasion resistance is of much use to cyclists due to their lower speed, i would think armour would more appropriate.
  24. & forget about dats  i would stock similar to ryan's suggestion.
