haha thats awesome Great picture and congrats on the Gourami Whoopee!

oooo Yeah actually to their credit I found a strip of algae, behind the thermostat where they couldn't get it, so they're still doing their duties. They've also done a great job of removing the fake algae on one of my decorations :-?
-
haha yeah, the irony is though I originally got a redspot to help clean the mess on the bottom but they're making the mess now. I left them without algae tabs tonight, but did feed the big guy some blood worms (you can basically hand feed them to him). He also ate 4 algae tablets earlier in the day. Tank has 1900L/hr filtration with carbon so its not causing any problems for fish or odour or anything just looks rather odd. Beautiful fish for the money though. We built him a huge cave that he defends. Once this new tank is setup I'll move out some of the extra rocks and plants to give him some more room and move the other redspot temporarily until I get some L052 or L144.
-
Oh here is another question about him though. He is leaving long long strands of thick green poop all over the place. At the moment I have a 20cm ish reel of the stuff in my Java Fern, and he's carrying one twice his body length :-? I thought it might be time to lay off feeding him his algae tabs, but if I dont, he gets rather agro when I feed the others flakes, chases other fish looking for his algae tabs and will splash the surface :-? also hangs on the front of the tank in the middle of the day until I drop one. Just wondering about opinnions on that. My smaller red spot is a lot more civilised. Still leaves the long poo though :-?

Sorry, forgot to pay my hosting bill Yeah pretty sure he's a Redspot Sailfin, just has more of a tiger type pattern (no red spots) and a lyre-tail, otherwise body shape etc is all identical to my smaller redspot.

Cheers Yeah I'm too excited to not try it now. Just got to figure out a way to keep it under water. Will actually set tank up next weekend when I have some free cash to setup extensions and plugs etc for filter, heater, lights. Got some baby Java Ferns waiting, one naturally dropped off and is floating at the moment (already has about 4 leaves) and some Java Moss, so all is looking good

Heya hmm ok Well this is the abuse I put it through so far: > Sat in bath, chlorinated water for 3 days > Covered with water out of jug x 2 > left it dry for a week > took it outside tonight and ripped off anything I could with my hands, > hit it with the crazy Upper hutt water pressure, blasting 99% of the crap off, also got rid of the moss that was growing on it. > sawed part of it off so it fits in the tank So I'm thinking maybe I'll just try it, and I'll re-setup the tank if it gets really dirty or if somebody on here says 'OMG NO WAY'.

Ok, so I went over to 'Mother Earth's house, about a week ago and came backwith this really cool bit of wood. Looks like what was the base of a small tree, so will make a fab aquarium centre piece. Only thing is, half of it still has bark which is slowly rotting off, essentially its not quite driftwood yet. Just wondering if there is going to be any serious problems with using rotting wood as apposed to formed drift wood (which I also have but doesn't look as neato). Was planning on putting wood eating plecos in there, but want to make sure its not going to mess up any other fish. (by other fish I mean american cichlids, not africans, and I have coral sand to help maintain a reasonable pH GH and KH).

Yep I'll be there, probably not with bells on though, they're out of fashion at the moment. Was offering free ride, but edited post as I realised its next Wednesday, and I dont know if I'll have the locks working on my new car by then (long story haha) anyway will be there with Helen in the MX5

Stocking new tank - how does this look?
SpidersWeb replied to Southerrrngirrl's topic in Beginners Corner
I'd say thats fine. Nice selection there, and you'd be fine with 155 litres. I would recommend splitting the purchasing up over 3 or more visits to the LFS though. Go for the Cardinals -
Its hard alright. I set up a hospital tank, and now that I'm not using it, I want to buy guppies :-?
-
uh oh thats gonna spill oh wait...turn head..ooo Looks fantastic meesheelly I want to do a planted tank at some stage. I have that same log ornament in my tank, I'm trying to get Java moss growing on it. Love the dark gravel, where did you get that?

Another idea I just thought of. Get a BetaMax or VHS, and convert it to an aquarium light, cut hole in top of TV (which provides access too) and put the BetaMax on top to cover and light Hardest bit will be getting the front glass, acrylic I imagine to get the right curves..

If your test kit is able to detect ammonia, it is considered lethal to fish. I'd recommend re-testing, and if there is ammonia a 50% water change might be in order and consideration of how the ammonia built up. If the tank has only been running for a short period, then that explains it, still want to reduce that to 0 though. Hope I've helped in some way, and sorry about your fish This page: http://www.fishyfarmacy.com/fish_diseas ... rders.html suggested it was a 'Saproglenia fungal infection'

Too cold to go outside

Welcome to the forums! Sorry I missed you in chat, I'm easily distracted

hehe off-topic here, but yeah I've already got 6 from there, and the 3 they have atm are from the same breeder, I'm wanting to get some variety Thanks for the heads-up tho, always love to know what is where.

Welcome to the forums! You should get yourself a female platty or two Its great watching the little babies grow up. They will definately breed, and regularly, but they kind of self mantain population due to err 'dietry habits'. Another Wellingtonian, wooo!

me too Welcome to the forums Got any spare Firemouths? hehe
-
Welcome cesarz! I'm newish too, looking at joining Kapi-Mana, seems to be the Wellington club of choice I should get off my butt and do it. I work in IT as well, just PHP/Java stuff though. Anywho welcome aboard, look forward to seeing your plants too, always keen for a bit of shopping

Me too, but I got a pleco, and he ate it within the first day also had it appearing on some air tubing.

What causes this? (it was flukes, need some advice)

Thanks Blue and Sharn, I only just saw your messages   Forgot to pay my hosting bill, so no email notifications at the moment. Anywho yes the Prazi killed off the parasites on the white angel, and it was looking better, however it died the next day. After removing the body I did a 30% water change. Day later all was well, and Jude was over and took some photos of my Koi angel (my favourite guy). Yesterday my Koi and a white angel showed signs of being lethargic, and loss of apetite, and the base of their fins having a mild red tinge. This morning my white angel was dead, and right now my Koi is being a belly-scraper. Hard to see him there, can see him turn his eyes and look at me Anyway the white angel showed nothing wrong with it. Fins were normal, no bloating, no ulcers etc, no unusual marks, looked like a perfect fish dispite the lack of gill movement. No signs of flukes anymore, but something (I'm guessing bacterial) is killing them off. I only have two left, a common and a black lace, both are chirpy with fins right up. The only thing I might have done wrong was overfeeding, but I didn't overfeed that much, I mean you can't see it building up on the ground, and the tank doesn't smell or anything (has that natural wet dirt odour). When moving a filter I found 2-3 of those little white worms, which the remaining angels gobbled up quickly. So anyway I have no idea. Definately will not be buying anymore until I have a hospital tank setup that I can use anti-biotics/anti-bacterial medications on without pooping up my whole tank cycle. Oh and my Sailfins aren't bloated or constipated, just really really fat. The big guy comes to the surface for bloodworms, and eats about 4 algae tabs a day. Both of these guys are doing well, and the little guy has grown heaps since I got him. Oh and my new 4ft tank arrived a few minutes ago, w000! just need to get some wood to go between the tank/poly and metal frame. I've got all of about $4, so blue let me know if you have any spare wood    -
Praziquantel !!! and good luck
-
VitaPet Super All Wormer is what I used, you know you have the right one if it says '50mg/g Praziquantel'. 1 tab per 25 litres. Mix each tablet with a small amount of water, crushing it, and turning it in to a smooth paste, then slowly apply to aquarium. Leave it for 48-72 hours, then vac your gravel and do a water change to get rid of the horrid pink look and dead worms. Did not harm my plants, plecos, angels, or Firemouths. However monitor your pH level as mine went from 7 to 6.4 during treatment. Flukes and worms do not do very well with Praziquantel. I'd recommend treating any currently infected fish in a special tank if you have one spare. This way if they're not cleaned up in the time period, at least your other tanks will be worm/flukes free and you wont risk any more fishy lives. Hope that helps.
