Amazing update!! Well I couldnt get proper ammonia so I just used alot of fish food. Put in twice per day enough food for about 20 Goldfish. Now on day 5 of my fishless cycle. My ammonia has started to drop and my nitrite has spiked, and I have already a good starting reading of nitrate. I'm impressed. Normally it would take 3 weeks to get to this point. I have air bubbles going crazy and the temprature is set to 30degress C So far its working amazing. At this rate the cycle could be complete in a couple more days. Will keep you posted Cheers W

Thanks guys and Gals You guys are too nice you know I bought some cloudy Ammonia. Seems to be just ammonia, so will give it a go. Its for a Goldfish setup, with no plants and big gravel and ornaments. I wouldnt be able to run my filter in another tank as I have a fixed top filter. But I wanna give this Ammonia thing a go and fishless cycle, as Ive seen so much about this on the internet. By keeping the temp at 30 degrees and making sure theres 5ppm ammonia daily, I have read a cycle can be done in a week. Just thought I'd experiment and see how it goes. Thanks for all the advice and offers of help, much appreciated. ps. Hmmm, how much urine would I need hehehe, nah I wont go down that road. Wouldnt want yellow water, hehe Apparantly bunnings sells Ammonia solutions, so will check it out later. Thanks for the reply W

Hi there Guys Ive been searching and cant find some information I am looking for. I know a PH below 7 or above 7 has an impact on Ammonia, Nitrite or Nitrate, but cant for the life of me find the info now Can somebody please point me in the right direction? Thanks W

will try to get more pics up with my new camera. not much more too see though. cleaned the filter and media yesterday , wow what a load of gunk everywhere. planted tanks do have one drawback . they make allot of mess too. I am constantly fishing floating leaves out of the tank. oh well. cheers W

Thanks guys!! Its really cool for a change. Ive tried to do tropical fishtanks about 3 times before and always gave up due to deaths and brown algae after about 2 months. What a difference reading up on the internet can help, understanding the cycle and water tests can do. With the mollies babies, I thought that if any survive great, otherwise they will make a great live snack for the fish? Is this wrong? I'm not into breeding fish, I chose those mollies because they look great with their bright yellow colour and are community fish. I love it that the fish tank is in my study, I can look at them while I type this message Thanks for all the help guys Oh yes, I can no longer see any sign of brown Algae. Pleckie even cleans the plants for me Oh and the tera now no longer school, they swim individually between all the plants now. Its also fun watching the bonze catfish swimming and looking for food between the plants, they all seem extrememly hapy since having a heavily planted tank. For fertilizer I am using JB Balls, Some Lili-Grow and 3-4 weekly plant fertilizer like flourish. I also cut away the dead, dying or brown leaves and that makes sure there is always new green shoots opening. I have even had to trim some plants as they touch the top of the water. My strategy has also been to overfeed a little so that the bottom dwellers get some flake food as well as the occasional sinking pellet or two, and this will also help fertilize the plants with sinking food and extra poop. But to counter the overfeeding and such I do about 15% weekly water changes and monitor the water weekly. So far all tests are perfect, 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrite, and only about 20 Nitrate. CHeers W

guys I think you are freaking lorraine out a little too much. Its not like she sitting on the atomic bomb or something. Lorraine, firstly, just relax Ok, so you and me both didnt do the correct thing. Best we can both do is not to add any more fish until the cycle is over. As I suggested in PM, just get some water testers to monitor the cycle. I would agree with twice weekly water changes, but other than that dont stress too much, its not gonna help you or your fishes. I am sure it will work out in the end. In the future I will do fishless cycles, but didnt know about that option. good luck, and perhaps it would be better if people gave us newbies advice and help, and not nail us with doom and gloom Good luck, and stick with it cheers W

I assume 640x480 is fine, seeing as thats a standard picture size, if you make pics 600x480 your picture will distort and not look the original anymore. I think 600x480 is a typo and 640x480 is fine. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong Cheers W

Hey DJ, cool idea. I think it will look awesome. The only plant I can think of will be some java fern around the coffin and graves. Java fern has a nice creepy look to it. Keep us posted. Cant wait to see pics, especially a night shot or 2 Cheers W

Neons and Rams are not compatable at all with Angelfish. Having said that I have 12 Neons with my 2 Angelfish and so far so good. But I am told that once the Abgels get bigger they will start or might start eating my neons up? I am busy cycling my tank with 12 neons and from past experiences didnt expect any to survive. My tank is doing very well and all neons made it. My Angels are extreemly friendly and peacfull and really cant see them eating my neons. Its just what I've been told. Good luck, looking good so far. Wow!! My brown Algae is starting to go away by itself! This is the best I have ever done with an Aquarium. SOme of my plants were totally covered, and today it looks much much better. WIll test my water later Cheers W

Update on my Tank. More Fish. 3 Angels, 3 Catfish and 1 brittlenose pleco. I have my ammonia down to 0.5, brown algae is now starting on plants, but I'm told this is normal for a new tank. So far not one neon died during the cycle process. Angels are happy as anything. Wont be adding any more fish for at least a few weeks. oh, also added heaps more plants. Those catfish really do a great job of eating fishfood that falls on the floor, its nice to watch then eat. The pleco has already done a good job of cleaning up some of the algae. so far so good :bounce: Extra pic Another pic Cheers W

Hi there guys. I have a 200 ltr fishtank, Aqua One AR980 and have about 10 medium sized plants in it. My Temp is set to 26C Once a month I plan to stick a big lili plant fertilizer tablet or two in the gravel. I also bought a product called: Plant Gro (Aquatic Plant fertilizer) , Iron Enriched, it says contains only chelated iron. blah blah blah It says to use 5ml per 10 US gallons. Ok I've done that, it then says to use a test kit to monitor the iron, now I dont want to do that. So my question is simply how often should I add this product to the fishtank? Weekly, monthly etc etc Thanks, kind long way around asking the question, but thanks in advance cheers W :bounce:
