  1. Minchton - Is your tank Acropora friendly? Reef - We should be able to trade with more than just 2 people: Reef Pies Steve NickS Brendon Layton Steve A And I know there are others out there... Pies
  2. I have T5s 4x 5ft. They are OK but I am not sure if I would buy them again. Not reccomended by me (not sure what brand mine are). Piemania
  3. I have frags from at least 10 different Acropora colonies for sale/trade. As well as assorted montipora, mushrooms etc. I am in Wellington though. Who knows, maybee next big trade session i'll fly up for the ocasion. Infact i'll be in Auckland on Saturday... Pies

Peter a mate and i've put a lot of these people onto him. Tell him 'Saltwater Mark' sent you and he will look after you. Also if you a memeber of a club (say like Kapi Mana in Wellington) he will do the best price he can. Pies
  5. I use an Olympus C5050.
  6. Its funny because its true... Chimera - More photos please.
  7. Remember that you don't need to tinker in you tank every day. My current tank is 650 deep and my new tank is 730 deep. It can be awkward but hey you shouldn't be in your tank every day. Mark
  8. No, I don't belive any of that. I know plenty of people who use NSW without cyno. I also know pleny of people who use ASW who have major cyno issues (do a search on RC or UR). Based on this I find it a struggle to find a correlation between NSW/ASW and cyno. Alois - If you find that when you feed frozen food you get cyno/algae I would think that means your skimmer is to small for you tank. Upgrade it Pies
  9. I don't name my fish. Bicolour Blenny: Cardinal Mandarin Pies
  10. Yeah no doubt in my mind that ASW vs. NSW for cyno has no impact. Too many others over seas with cyno and only ever using ASW. Pies
  11. Not wanting to dredge up the NSW vs. ASW debate but I belive it 'should' work like this. Do you have a source of clean Natural Sea Water? Can you be bothered collecting it? Is it practical for you to collect it? If your yes to all of the above questions you should use NSW. Its niave to think that artificial salt water is better than real sea water. After all the ASW is trying to be just like NSW. I don't think using NSW is cheaper, the time an energy to collect it make using ASW far easier. I use NSW because I belive it better for the tank and its inhabitants. Pies
  12. Now this is not true. A sump is good and highly reccomended, but its not a 'must have'. And there are far more problems with flooding with a sump than without one (design can mostly elivate this though). Lots of nice sumpless tanks about. PN is less than an hr from my place so pop over. I am in Vanuatu for 2 weeks as of Saturday, but after that its not a problem. I also know an excellent tank maker, plastic cutter (for overlfows) and have a plumbing trade account and Mico. Good luck. Pies
  13. Hasn't helped me... Hey just a thought, and possibly too late now, but why didn't you paint the sides as well? I know the ocean is blue, but its definatly not 'wood grained' anywhere i've been. Just may spoil the effect if you don't. Otherwise looking good. I got to see my tank yesterday. UBER. Although its still not build, the base is glued and drilled and all the bits are cut. Piemania

Lots of people loose CBBs to yellow tangs. Awesome fish though. Pies
  15. there is nothing new about bare bottom tanks. The 'berlin' method of reefkeeping is bare bottomed. If you read RC you will notice that 1-2 tanks featured a year have no substrate. Its cleaner. Personally I like the look of the sand, but it is generally regarded as a trap for 'poo'. Pies
  16. Alan - He is posting in the saltwater section... I would starve it for a few days, then feed with a net. Easy. If there is an anemone and the clown sleeps in it, crab it at night straight from the anemone. Easy. Pies
  17. Heaps on information on RC about it. Its not difficult to do, but its incredibly time consuming. rotifers are the food needed at the start, the rule of thumb is that if you don't have food ready when they are spawned its too late, you need to be prepared before they are hatched. Good luck Pies
  18. I wouldn't use the part as pic above. I am just going to use pressure piping with an end cap and drill many holes in it (10mm wide). Whats up with the screw in end bit? does that screw into the hansen tank inlet? If so will you be able screw it in now that its glued together? Pies
  19. Don't use an undergravel filter. Just use a canister and you will be happy. Undergravel filters have too many negitives and only one real positive (cheap). Pies

optical float switches on sale for $35.00 in an electrical catalog I saw yesterday. Pies
  21. I did my last one about 10cm above the sand. My next one is going to be multi layered, about 3-4cm att the front, maybee 15cm at the back, with another rack on top at the back another 15cm high. pies
  22. Again why seal it? You go from one extreme to another. First not going to paint it at all, not applying sealing coats. Its paint, its already sealed. Its also in you closet in you bedroom. If it gets so wet that sealing it is the only way to protect it, you have much bigger problems than the paint on the back of the tank... I've never done anymore than just paint it, as i've stated before, and it works just fine. Some of those tanks are over 4 years old without an issue. pi
  23. TheClaw - What fittings are you talking about? I get most of my stuff from Mico Plumbing. The black fitting (tank inlets and outlets, slip ons etc) are made my hansen (NOT Jansen) and can be sourced from Mico. Use pressure piping, its a little expensive but it NEVER leaks and lasts forever. Also if you want cheap plumbing anf fittings (or some bendy action) use the black irrigation pipe, 19mm from Placemakers or your favorite garden shop, or 25mm-30mmetc from Mico. Only sold by the roll but its cheap as. Piemania.
  24. My tanks 3 times larger, therefore it takes 3 times as long to prepare... + too many holidays Vanuatu here I come! 12 more sleeps!
