    Food

I don't make pellets. It binds the foods together, stopping them from disintergrating when fed (thawed). I see no reason to use it, and to be honest never really questioned why I shouldn't. Pie
  2. I'm completely with JoeBlog on that one. Its 'the man' trying to keep a brother down. Pie 'rage against the machine' Man

    Food

I use Gelitine (sp?) in mine, as per the Base recepie from Bob Fenner and Eric bourneman. Not sure if its needed or not, maybee i'll try it without next time. Also greens are under-utlilised in foods. Add heaps of spirilina flake and Nori into the mix. Good luck, hard to belive you can go wrong with it. Pie
  4. Muhahahaha I'd refuse entry on principle. I'd force a search warrent/writt and supervision. I would only resort to violence if they did, maybee i'd stab them with the lion fish, poetic irony. Really? That drunk driver that killed 3 peoples only got 8 years (out in 5), so a 7 year stint seems insane. Would I brake a law knowingly? Yes, but I will take full responsibility for my actions. However I do belive that in most situations common sense prevails, even in law. It would have to be a strange set of circumstances end up breaking rocks in the sun or wearing a large fine for being in possession of a fish. Poses no risk to the public at large, or NZs aqriculture or any other industry (given that it exists naturally in this country and is not protected or endandagers). WOW - this is the best thread on this forum for ages! Beats discussing the existance of IRON and VINIGAR in zeovit Pie
  5. Hahahaha. Police can only respond to 1 in 5 burgalaries within 2 days so as a Tax payer i would be a little offened to think that Tax dollars would be spent hunting for a fish in a tank as opposed to responding to a serious crime like burglary, rape or assult. Still common sense does't always (or even often) prevail in government agencies. Pie
  6. Hehehehe for sure confusia. It would be worth having them come to my house, so I could photograph them 'breaking down the door' (i wouldn't let them in). Sure it would cost me a door, but the photograph in the newspaper would more than pay for the damages! Rest assured I will post any pictures here first. As for fines. I watched a air-port security thing on TV the other week, a guy came into the country with 20 joints in a plastic bag. They confiscated the dope (of course!) and fined him $130.00! So if thats the fine for attempting to smuggle drugs, I wounder what the fine is for being in posession of a fish that has moved through a legitimate MAF approved quarantine facility (or a fish being caught in NZ waters, outside of the reserves of course!). Surley its not as bad as importing drugs, because if its even considered the same by the authorities its a pretty hefty penalty *end sarcasim* Pie
  7. I'd raise the middle finger to MAF. I have private medical insurance so the health concequences are of no concern to the government. The police would need a search warrent/writt, for a fish that is endemic to NZ and not listed as protected or endangered. Either way I'd like to think it would get me on Cambell Live! or the news. "Mans privacy invaded in search of fish" "Something fishy: Mans home stormed by armed police in search of ornimental fish" "Wellington mans rights violated in fishy circumstance" etc Pies
  8. I took a look at a new Hilux last month. 65k stock standard, which is one of the more expensive accessories for a fish tank. Pie
  9. Maybee we can share a cell. Pie

    Seio Pumps

Hahahahaha. Man those Seio pumps crack me up. Pie
  11. JoeBlog - The blue throats are very popular in the UK. PICS? Cool fish, the blue throats are on my 'list' of fish to try/add. Do you have any anemones in the tank? Pie
  12. The 'niger' trigger and Blue Throats are reported with success in reef aquairums, but there are disaster stories with these fish. Pie
  13. Its a free service! If you are frustrated by the performance donate some money, become a RC sponsor and all of those problems will dissapear. Pie
  14. I am never un-plugged Pie (there is no spoon)
  15. P04 isn't the only cause of algae. Light, nuitrients and DOC all play a factor. Export the badness. Pie

    Fluro Tubes

Snowman - I'd go to any electical supplier including Coreys and Master Trade. Rock in like you know what your talking about and say "Mate, i'm looking for of 6500 Kelvin Remember - The only difference between a 6500k petshop bulb and a 6500k electrical supplier bulb is price. If you do some digging on line you can even find who manifactures the 'special pet brand' of fluros for Interpet etc *cough* *Philips* *cough*. I use a mix of 6000 and 6500k, for no reaon than it seemed like a good idea at the time. I payed about $7.20ea for my tubes. Easy peasy. Pie
  17. You will of course need some light if you intend to look at it. Algae is inevitable, and if you don't manage you will have problems. Reduction of P04 by Skimming is probably a good start. Pie

    Food

Beware of mussles. VERY high in Nitrate and p04. Nothing wrong with them, but feed sparingly, especially if your struggling with Nitrate and Po4. Pie
  19. Depends. Pertrois Violitans are listed as uncommon at the Kermidecs and Extremely Rare (1 documented case) in the Poor Knights, which are both Marine Reserves. Pie
  20. Like I said, no one has documented cuttlefish in NZ including Poor Knights, 3 Kings and the Kermadecs. Documented are Lionfish, some juv tangs, turtles, but no cuttlefish. I am sure MAF/DOC would be interested to know if it is a new undescribed species living in NZ waters. Pie
