  1. Pie math, half of $3800 is $1500! Thats how I can approval to buy stuff at home. She asks how much, I say just over 2k, and pay $2995.00 Cheap price for such a good skimmer. Pie
  2. I am running 14k, and would go back to 10k if I could find bulbs at the right price. 14k is a little too blue, I like the crisp white from the BLV 10k. Pie
  3. Yeah JetskiSteve has been bringing in DelTec skimmers and equipment at prices that can't be beaten. $1500.00 or less for that skimmer brand new is a bargin. I paid more than that for mine 2nd hand a few years ago. Pie
  4. I can't wait to see the plumbing Sounds like a solid plan. Why not go bigger (deeper, higher?). I saw pics online of an inwall (bare bottom shhhhhh) but the botom of tank was at least 15cm lower than the bottom of the viewing window. he had rocks on the bottom right up at the front with acros etc growing from them. The uber thing is it not only made the tank look deeper as fish could swim left/right and up/down out of view but it made the tank looks more 3d as opposed to a shelf of rock and sand that we all have. Lets get this sucker started. First thing is you will need a larger skimmer Pie
  5. Cracker I am beyond impressed. AWESOME! Don't know what else to say. Pie

    Water Tests

You posted at 9:48 and then 'no one' at 10:12. 24 minutes. Give people a chance. If your alk is 3.6 the first thing I would look at would be a new test kit. Then, why bother testing your CA? What is your PH? Its the PH thats going to do the damage and with 3.6 I suspect your in problems. Adding addititives is probably OK, even if they do turn the coraline white. Although I am not sure why you would continue to add something that does this to your tank. How about a 20% water change every day or two for the next 2-4 weeks. That will sort out your problem. Pie

There are no virus at the moment, or rootkits that we know of, thats true no arguement from me. There are however many exploits and security flaws that continue to plague the mac at the moment that have little to do with virus infection. I've got nothing but love for the mac and Steve Jobs, he's funny. I used to have a few macs back in the early days. Macs used to have lots of virus issues in the late 80s and 90s. I havn't had one in the past 10 years. (edit - Mac that is). Arn't you 21 years old? So if you had a mac in 89 that would mean you would have been using your mac since you were about 6 years old. WOW. Pie
  8. Tutakaka is a long drive. Over 12 hrs, maybee longer depending on Auckland traffic. Did I mean Kapiti? Yep! Your welcome, good luck to you. when you get here maybee i'll come out and show you some sites to get your started. Pie

Hahahaha yeah. We support about 3,500 macs here in NZ. Sure if you say so, lets ask SANS: EDIT - I tried to post in the security flaws foun in the month of November but there were so many this BB couldn't display them all! Pie

Hahahahaha I can't see them so they can't see me. Secutity by obsecurity is a misnomer. Go the apple. If its more secure how come there were more security exploints for mac OS then for Win OS in the last 12 months? Not sure if you've priced up an apple latley, but they are expensive, very expensive. Always have been, looks set to continue for the future. They are far more trendy than the bulk of PCs though. So if its a fashion choice, then there are few other options. I love my iPOD though, but I have no love for iTUNES. WASP - Cancel my advice. Buy a Mac and all your security issues will disolve. You know its true, Layton said it. ApplePie

Really whats the seceret? The rest of the world would like to know. Or is it all move to Linux and Apple? hahahahahaha. Pie
  12. Followed by: Hahahahahaha Other than the obvious hipicritical nature of these statements the only part that appears to be 'accurate' is the part that goes "they don't want to hear it". Which is true, we don't want to hear it. Layton - Why do you bother posting on this forum if all you want to do is pick fights with people and continue to fuel arguements? Rose Tinted Pie

There is little doubt that the phishing type scams work, but doesn't meet the definition for targeted hacking. They are almost always autotonomos bots doing their thing to millions of accounts. We see all sorts of scams and attacks a week. At a guess 99% are social enginering type attacks with technology playing a very small part. Run winxp (sp2), turn on the firewall and read any of the bubbles that pop up (don't just click OK). Make sure your AV is uptodate and thats all you need to do. Don't install activeX controls unless you trust the site, watchout for JAVA applets and you will be fine. Avoid pr0n sites, hacking sites, warez and 0-day sites and you will greatly reduce any badness. (ohhh yeah, don't put any Sony CDs into your machine!). If your a little savvy and paranoid you can creat a user account on your machine with user rights not admin rights, this will almost garantee you can not be the victim of anything. Be safe. Pie

I work in the computer security industry and specialised in security for the 3 years. All of your DSL links are at risk. Products like Zone Alarm are OK but they won't stop hackers, they will stop many trojans and worms. Think of it like this, if something as simple as Zonealarm would stop these people, then Microsoft, Citibank, Novell, USDD etc would have used it this quarter I am pretty sure that hosting a website is in breach of the DSL T&C, but that may have changed since the dereg and debundle earlier in the year. I didn't say you would get in trouble, just that its a breach. A static will not make it any easier or harder for you to be hacked. Target for hackers. No one (anon) will hack a personal website, but they will have tools running now to take you machine to use it to target others. Our honeypots pick up 3-7 attempts a day. 1 machine, 1 ip. Pie

Static's are available for a cost, I think Telecom charge $35.00. Remember hosting a web page on your DSL link its breaching your Ts & Cs. Pie
  16. Diving alone is stupid. Check out 'Splash Gordon' in Wellington, or Dive Spot in Kapati. Both are excellent shops and I have dived with both and reccomend. They have club dives most Sat mornings, and if you join the club rental equipment is discounted. You will want 24hrs before you fly from the end of your last dive. Dive the south coast and see how you go. If you can afford to travel a little go straight to Tutukaka and dive the Poor Knights. One of the best dive spots in the world (top 10). Pie
  17. Shae - Have you actually dived in Wellington because it appears you know not what your talking about. Wellington diving - The south coast, from Moa Point to Red Rocks (basically behind the air port for a few km in each direction) has excellent diving. There is a lot of fish life, kelp etc and for visibility its about as good as you are going to get within 1000km. As mentioned they have recently just sunk a boat there which can be dived on. This required a boat, the above I am talking about is for shore diving. If you eat crayfish, the south coast is an excellent spot for crays. Tetahai Bay/Rocky Bay/Whiteria Park (forgive my spelling) is very average for diving. Not much to see day or night. Small numbers of fish and maybee a few rays, lots of Conga eels. Never seen crayfish or anything noteworty out there at all. Honestly not worth the energy, the south coast is about 100x better in all ways. Again I am talking about shore diving. Kapati Island - Requires boat access. Outstanding diving, similar wild life to the Poor Knights (water is a few deg warmed) but without the volcanic action. I'd rate the dives i've done in Kapati in my top 10 NZ dives. Lots of life, lots of kelp and other things, nudi branch etc. Well worth the effort. East coast - White Rock, Tadman Bay etc. OK diving, very exposed. Good for crays but can be some crazy currents, best dived from a boat buy shore diving options exist. Better the West (above) but a long journey for little payoff, better on the south coast. Wellington Harbour - If you HAVE to dive and everywhere else is shutdown you can dive the harbour. Personally i find it unspectacular but not bad either. One of those things you have to say you have done once. Dive NZ. The poor knights are exceptional and worth the expence to do it. NZ water is cold, warm is about 13 deg C, cold as low as 6 deg C. You will need a 7mm wet suit, and probably more than 15kg of weight. The diving here is great, BUT it is different to tropical diving. Its more dangerous, the vis is worse and did i mention its cold? Give it a go, get used to the temprature and join one of the many clubs here in Wellington, you will find endless options and some semi-unique things too. Try a drift drive on the south coast, or dive with sea lions and seals at red rocks. I've seen dozens of pengiuns at Island bay swiming around me like little crazy bird fish. No need to pay $35 to see em, they live right here. Piemania
  18. A hundred and eighty five centimeters or not quite 2 metres. The majority of human beings speak mandarin but I see no reason for me to start just because they do. These same people subsitute s for z in lots of their words and call their mother mom. No good can come of imitating Americans. Use metric. All you base are belong to us. Pie
  19. We use metric. Gallon is meaningless and just confuses the issue for many of us. Jezzz next you will be saying your tank is 5/16ths of a fathom deep. Pie
  20. How many litres is that, I don't speak American. Pie

I have about 10 in my tank, different sorts. They do eat snails though, which is a minor inconvienance. pie
  22. Real men get NSW into their tanks as soon as possible. I bypass the whole heating thing and try and get it into the tank within 30mins. Anything over 2hrs adds 5 points to the wussy scale, over a week and your a nancy, anything over 2 weeks and your Richard Simons. I consider myself the Andew Dice Clay of NSW users. My tank is a time bomb anyway so I figure any harm done is only going to speed up the doomsday clock. I see nothing funny about it at all, nor did I make anything up, unless you mean that I am wrong when I said the ocean is really really big, still I am sure you can find a link proving me wrong. Its like watching a 9 year old boy stomp his feet when he doesn't get his own way. "waaa waaaaa mummy the big ugly men are being mean to me waaa waaa" Big Daddy Pie
  23. Layton - Take my word for it, the Ocean is really really big. Pie
