  2. looking good kookie....... the plants have realy taken off with lots of growth..
  3. yes your right as ive got a ship wreck sitting in the tank in front of me and it didnt even click (im having a brainless nite  ) i forgot to say i was going to use chicken netting to make the shape then a small amount of paper mache over the top .... i was going to go this way as i havnt been able to find any polystyrene at a good thickness......
  4. hey weka...... i was thinking of doing something similar using paper mash-a (sorry ant spell it) to make the shape then wax the outside and then fibre glassing over top and removing the paper stuff (wax is so the glass removes easy) leaving a nice strong back ground you can add paint to the fibre glass so you get the colour of rocks e.t.c ....but im trying to find on the internet if fibre glass is ok in a fishtank or if something has to be added to make it safe.... let us no how you get on as your way might be better then the way i thinking of....
  5. hi stigg........... go for the silver one as the black one has the filter inside the tank and the silver one is built into the hood...and all you need is a heater to make a complete setup..... i have the silver one and its a nice tank..... if you want a photo of one of these set up let me no as once setup they look very good...... the stand is basic but does the job and the tanks are well made .......... filter is way big enough for the size of the tank........ ive just moved my one to a new place in the house but before i did i was running 7 discus ,, 3 clown loaches ,, 2 BN's ,, 20 neons ,, a few guppys (babys make good discus food) 2 rams ,, some plattys ,, and a few more i forget now ..... the filter was handling all these fish very nicely......... and with tv's ,, stereos e.t.c coming out silver nowadays this tank matchs in nicely for a lounge display..... as i say if you want a pic of one of these all planted up let me no..... good value for money IMO!!
  6. hi robert.... thanks for your help..... its fresh and just a few plants (vals growing up the back and a bit of ground cover plants just to add some colour) .... im just after a display type effect........ with the bayonet type i thought with the tank only being 35cm square i wouldnt get that effect i thought it would penatrate deeper than the small 8watt double fluro but im not sure and why i as asking if anyone had done it before....hope this info helps you to help me...... thanks for your time robert
  7. hi just after some help to do with lighting...... im setting up a tall tank (350mm x 350mm x 700mm high) and the light it came with is only 8watts due to it being a small fluro light due to the width of the tank..... its a twin bulb set up using those purply bulbs..... and its not bright enough so before i waist my money buying new white bulbs can anyone let me no what type of bulbs will give me the best light for this situation..... also i was thinking of making my own light hood ..... was going to use the normal fittings that we all use in our roofs (bayonet fittings) and use these flro bulbs that you can buy now...... has anyone tryed this???? ....... do you think it will create algae problem??? ..... any help or advise would be great....
  8. hi guys ..... thanks heaps for your feedback..... yes i was wondering about a HOB & a canister filter running together...... sounds like a good thing to me..... yes 800mm is a pain to get to the bottom e.t.c..... but they looks heaps better for a display tank..... im going to put 2 x 600 x 600 x 700-800mm to gether so it looks like a big 4 foot set up and then can run different fish in the 2 tanks but make it look like 1..... im a bit pushed for room (and as we all no 3 or 4 tanks are not enough)..... i was thinking of doing a sump filter for both but then i cant have discus in 1 and africans in the other for example.....thanks for the help
  9. hi lookig for peoples feed back ...... if doing a deep tank say about 700mm - 800mm deep would you use a hang on filter or a canister filter ....i like the idea of the hang on filter but never owned one so not sure if they are any good....... if i use a hang on can you get ones that will hole a good amount of filter media and glass wool above e.t.c. & handle the tank due to the depth of it.... going to use sand for base so cant put a under gravel filter in aswell...... peoples feed back on what they have succsess with would be cool...... thanks

    sunsun tanks

in regards to your statment " As anyone that has had a hood filter for longer than 3 weeks knows, they are a pain "..... when i was doing fish 3 yrs ago the hood filters was the main type of filtration that i use in the tanks..... so ive not been using a hood filter fo 3 weeks ive had a lot of yrs using hood filters and ive found them fine..... also having a disability they are much much better as not being able to get under tank stand etc to get canister filters out e.t.c..... so IMO they are fine..... having to change the glasswool more often is all in the fun and enjoyment of owning fish ( thats IMO)....

    sunsun tanks

hi beachy......... i have bought a 1200mm sun sun tank from that guy..... found he ok to deal with he was helpful enough and as for thr tank i think its dam good value for money... at $500 for a tank ith the stand and lights and filter thats a good buy........mine is up and running only thing im finding is temp is sitting around 30 and im testing if its a faulty heater or if theres not enough vents in the hood and the lights may be keeping the tank that hot..... but once i sort out this prob i think it will be a good setup..... pleant of filtration as it has a big filter area on top in the hood....plenty of room for bio noodles and carbon e.t.c...... let me no if you want to no anything else about them.....
