  4. hi smidey..... just get one off a fluval there not a spray bar as such its like a spout on a watering can very easy to hide......just go to your LFS and get them to order you one ..... far less mucking around then having to make one.....
  5. he will be fine... the parrot can see for him and give him directions.... :-?
  6. dont forget the parrot for his shoulder..
  7. im running 3000lph return on a 350 litre tank and the water is crystal clear .... i run a 32mm hole and it handles it fine... i would go with 40mm hole that way you no you will be safe....
  8. click on this link..... its a great price.... fluval is the best IMO..... http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pets-animals/Fish/Pumps-filters/auction-64015151.htm
  9. i also have Surinamensis and Jurapari together are they great together my geo jurapari (my little snappers) are just starting to dig there pit to breed ... only thing ive noticed is they get a bit stroppy with one another now with breeding but dont hassle any other fish just keep them away from the breeding area which is normal..... both these breeds get bad raps but there so placid and will hand feed and play at feeding e.t.c... one of my fav fish and everybody that comes wants to no how snapper can surive in fresh water (can hae a bit of fun at times)

    poly/stand

the stuff your thinking of carly is called "triboard" ..... mdf swelling all depends on the finish you give it.... if left natural yes it will swell but a good coating of your perffered finish and it can be fine..... ive been using mdf for lots of years and havent had much trouble with it (i use pine for the frame so if mdf does have any probs it wont effect the strength of the stand or project your doing.....
  11. i got mine for $6 a kilo off trademe brand new.... i must have got a steal

  20. oh and ive bought a Protein Skimmer will i use it on this set up ?????
  21. well after many years of freshwater tanks and always thinking & dreaming about a marine tank ive decided to set one up........ im going to start with a "FISH ONLY & live rock" set up ( i want to crawl before i can walk -- a reef set up will come later)..... im using a 200 litre tank and since its one of my freshwater tanks i will have to run a canster filter (has no overflow built into it) and add one or two pumps inside the tank for water circulation was looking at maybe a Aqua One 104F Internal Filter 2000 lph or a Seio M820 Super Flow Pump 3200 lph -- am i on the right lines with these choices???? can i buy live rock that has been cycled or do i buy it dry and cycle it myself???........ wheres the best place to get it from and how much do you recomend to use??? ( i dont mind driving to aucks e.t.c to get it) im going to set up a large bin for storing made up salt water for water changes it will have a heater mounted in it and will i need a pump for circulation or use air stones ( am i on the right line here???) do i set up the filter like you do for fresh water with meada e.t.c or will the live rock take care of the bio type filtering this is the part im not to sure on ???? well i thinkill leave it at that and ask any other question as i go.... thanks for any help i get..
  22. hi fishy .... another way is to use a heat gun or better still get one of those little blow touches use it with care as if you get to close it will melt very fast but with a bit of practice you can get a very good finish and no mess at all..... this is just my way to do it..... it wont work for every one but theres no mess just a bit of smell..
  23. i agree ...... IMO theres not such thing as an "expert" its more like an opinion we have all made mistakes and learn by our mistakes IMO thats partly the fun of a hobby..... getting a tank to cycle can be talked about for the next 30 yrs and still different people with have different ways of doing it and more than likely all those different ways will work...... i had a problem a ouple of weeks ago and got advice from a fish shop that has helped me in different ways over the years and this worked for him but it didnt work for me and i could have lost a few hundred dollars worth of discus ( they are fine now so im happy) but the point im making is im not going to hold that over the pet shop ..... it didnt work for me so i learnt my lesson and take that lesson look at it and work out what may have gone wrong.... its all part of having a hobby (learning about it)...... if we all keep saying " dont trust your LFS " then where will we all be when this hobby goes down hill fast. cos no one trust there LFS... and please dont jump all over me im just voicing an opinion. ive been learning for the last 20 odd years and IMO ill carry on learning for the next 20 years about this hobby!!!..
  24. i agree..... ive use a digital thats has the wire in the tank and a mercury and a digi stick on the front ... use them all on the same tank at the same time and they all read differently .... so beats me whic one to trust..
