  1. exactly, so its not a zebra pleco. l046 are 'zebra plecos' anything else is not a zebra pleco, just a look-a-like using the same name
  2. Zebra plecos arent available in Nz, and if they were bought in they'd cost over $1000..... EACH
  3. I think you need to dose more specialised ferts, rather than just flourish excel. PMDD would be a good start, and maybe make a DIY co2 setup.... Perhaps do some reading on dosing, on planted forums like www.plantedtank.net or aquatic plant central Also, pics would help diagnose the problem. HTH
  4. i had 5 brasiliensis and i introduced 5 baby (1ish cm) albino corys to their tank and three of the corys were gone by the time they had got to the bottom, the other two by the next morning The brasiliensis were only an inch or so long!!

    SOS!

How much surface movement do you have in the tank? Do you have an airstone in the tank, or is the filter moving the top of the water quite freely? May have been the problem
  6. Thats actually very true.... just a VERY odd mix...
  7. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 109049.htm Oscars, tinfoil barbs, a giant gourami and goldfish.... GREAT mix..... NOT (borat ) Some people!
  8. do it do it do it do it do it do it doitoditdoitdoitdoit *breath* .... DO IT!
  9. The driftwood will colour your water untill all the tanins leach out. the tanins wont harm your fish, they will just make the water pee coloured for a while. just put up with it and keep changing the water as usual and it will eventually go away, if you cant put up with it, then take it out
  10. cant be bothered.... Good point though, might have to try that sometime, got a barrel in the garage waiting
  11. at one stage someone says And on the other thread it says
  12. Found these two after a quick search. may have to be a member to read, not sure http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/plant ... rling.html and http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/plant ... ter+change
  13. hmm, some good points. This was genuine pearling, i could literally see the bubbles coming out of some places on certain plants.... I think i may have seen a thread on a planted tank forum a little while ago if my memory serves me right... i will try track something down
  14. As some of you may know i have a 250L heavily planted tank, 100 odd W's fluoros, pressurized co2, etc etc etc. Today i did a well needed 100+ litre water change and HUGE prune. quite literally 5 minutes after topping the water back up (garden hose, straight in cold ) all the plants were pearling like absolute nutters. I get mild pearling every day, but nothing like this. It has happened to me before, but not this good  What would it be from? nutrients in the new water? the heat change? its not just bubbles from the water going in, it is solid pearling..... Weird :-?
  15. No, it has to be hosted on the internet somewhere, not just your hard drive. Photobucket is the most simple one IMO.

How much did you pay for them snookie?
  18. I never use any chemicals in my tank unless i HAVE to..... The less the better i say. nothing can cycle a tank as good as time can
  19. I havent read the topic from start to finish, but this is what i do to cycle a new tank when i dont have a spare filter or anything to swap over to seed it. I fill the tank with water and turn heater(s) and filter(s) on. Plant plants if needed aswell. Then i feed the tank flake food every night as if i was feeding a few small fish, then every few days i give it a little bit more and more, and then after a week or so i chuck in a couple hardy fish (usually some kind of cleanup crew) and let them settle in, then start adding things slowly, every couples weeks or so.... I *hardly* ever test my water so dont know if it works very well, but it has always worked for me. Nowadays i just chuck some extra sponge into my canister filter, and then when im ready i take water out of the same tank, and chuck the sponges in the new tank and i have an instantly cycled tank, heated and everything
