  1. Nope, i didnt say that Just that there is heaps of very knowledgable guys there, who dont visit here very often, if at all. There are still some very knowledgable guys here, but not many
  2. Hey there. have you ever looked into kribensis? they are quite a stunning fish at times, and are easy to sex and breed. they can be semi - agressive when breeding, but not too bad. usually quite nice fish. I have a breeding pair in with angels and other semi aggressive cichlids and they all get on fine. Kribs also dont get too big, maxing out around 5-6cm usually. Another option which isnt so colourful but are still lovely fish are Keyhole Cichlids. keyholes are awesome, very placid little fish. Once again, easyish to sex, and easyish to breed. Get on with other fish well, just a little bit territorial when wanting to breed - not bad though, wont harm your other fish.As i said though, the keyholes arent colourful, striking fish, but are lovely and lively. They also max out around 5-6cm. I have a pair of kribs, and a pair of keyholes, in a tank with 6 angels, and they all get on fine HTH
  3. Hey dude. I would suggest joining up at the marine forum - http://www.nzmas.co.nz There's heaps of very knowledgable marine guys there who will be able to find you some live rock for sure! Good luck with your tank!
  4. If the scales are sticking out, then it is most likely dropsy If so, then the fish needs to be euthanised ASAP so that any other fish wont get it. dropsy is pretty much impossible to cure - i don't think anyone here has ever cured it, don't know if anyone anywhere has ever cured it either.... It will look like this If thats what your paradise fish looks like, then i would euthanise it immediately
  5. Well i finally managed to save some babys from my 4 wild mollies i caught a few months ago at the molly hunt. I have seen babys up in the weeds a few times but didnt save them thinking 'argh they'll survive in all the overgrown floating plant'...... I guess not..... The parents go absolutely nuts over them! flicking through the plant finding them and munching them back! So when i saw two just before i thought id see how many i could save... I think i got 16....
  6. I was just looking back through the pics on the first page and saw your overflow. You will be loosing any co2 you may have in your water from that, possibly the reason you have heaps of algae.... heaps of light + not much co2 + no ferts = ALGAE With having the overflow it will be very hard to keep your co2 levels up, putting the levels of the whole tank out, which ends in algae.... Dunno if that helps at all but it just flashed my mind
  7. Nah but i meant nzka.fnzas.org.nz DUH haha
  8. LOL Wok The NZKA website needs to be updated too with the new names...
  9. No tropical shrimp are available in NZ which sucks. there is a native shrimp which will last in a tropical tank for a little while, but they are pretty bland, boring shrimp I dont even think the shrimp are allowed to be imported
  10. Just a BB tank with heaps of caves will make them happy. just smash some terracotta pots up into halves/thirds etc and lay them on their sides all over each other and stuff.... you'll have fry in no time
  11. Is that the kid thats had like 4 different alias' and tells everyone hes going to import zebra plecos and stuff.....?
  12. lol I just sat down in front of the tank and took like 50 photos.... guess how many went into the rubbish..... every single one! these things just wont stay still!! The male australe is swimming round trying to swim round with the largest female... looks like breeding behaviour to me.. would this be correct?
  13. #246? aint i #276? lol. maybe im wrong... And yes, i do have the bug! and im seriously thinking of setting the whole wardrobe up with tanks, take the clothes outa there... who needs em?
  14. I finally got some killies! 3 korthausae yellow (1m 2 f) and 3 chocolate australe (1m 2 f) all fish are only about 2-3cm. They are in a 2 foot tank setup, with a divider in the middle so each species gets a 30 x 30 x 30 tank each. Not quite into breeding them as of yet (they need to grow up more anyway) but its my goal in the future to collect some eggs. PICS! First one shows the position the new tank is in my bedroom... in the wardrobe!! And this is a closer view of the tank The divider is not cut too square so i put a little bit of gravel along one side to stop them going under it (trust me, they tried) The two little mops are there just for hiding mainly ATM lol. tank consists of a heater, and a double sponge filter sitting on one side, but the outlet is on the other side so the water is constantly circulating Hope you like!
  15. lol... great minds think alike.... Post this on planetcat. theres heaps of knowledgeable peeps there who will answer it in a couple hours lol. Good luck!

    Uaru

I JUST got home from whakatane and guess what i bought home with me 2 baby uarus! They are so coool!
  22. My female does it in front of my male just before they lay
  23. Nope, a protein skimmer is salt water. a surface skimmer will take the nasty water from the surface off your tank aswell as from the bottom. it connects to your filter intake. Im gunna get one because i always have an oily film on the top of my tank... good things to have IMO
  24. Have you thought about keyholes? they are a very nice young cichlid, only grow to 5ish cm's max, dont eat plants, easy to sex, easy to breed, dont attack other fish too much (only when breeding but hardly even then aswell) and dont cost too much (10ish or so each) Or kribs?
